Didn't know you could take a TDI into the surf, lol, so that is not happening.

I still think Equinox is plenty deep at least as far as a VLF is concerned and it is nice not to have to dig it all regardless of depth like you generally have to do with a PI.  So I think it is a pretty good, if not ideal, balance between depth, weight, and ability to discriminate targets as far as wet beach hunting is concerned.   So, Blasphemy, indeed!

So to solve the problem of the PI all trash digger and the NOX all finder detector, is to carry them both hunt with the PI and scan the finds with NOX! Problem solved!?

Well they were saying March at one point and it’s March. Lots of time left in the month

    Hi Steve,

I am still waiting to buy my Makro Gold Kruzer, and my dealer still can't tell me when the Gold Kruzer is available in the USA.  You only see them listed as pre sales on websites. I got so tired of this that I contacted Nokta in Turkey, and last week I received a message from Nokta saying: I Quote their words now: We have an update on the Gold Kruzer so we will have a few weeks delay. Thanks for your patience.

So Mike Hillis was reight when he said, I count on April when it comes out! Since Nokta has an update on the New Gold Kruzer and this is causing the delay, it is better to sit back and relax and wait a little longer. This can only be good and in our advantage, because we are getting a better beast!

Hope this will help Gold Kruzer enthusiasts.

Even less gold detecting. That is why I am on Steve's site. There is just nothing on our local gold forum on gold detecting, so it doesn't hold me there. There are of course people out there gold detecting, & there is the band of hard core but they seem to be part of a secret squirrel society.

    JW

Maybe we all should move from the U.S.A to New Zealand, and help you clean out all of your gold nuggets with our detectors, now we know New Zealand  is a virgin gold detecting Paradise!

P.S. My advise keep it to yourself quys. other wise we will invade your beautiful Island with thousands gold detectorists, and maybe we like it so much that we stay!????

You guys with your conspiracy theories! We just went there for the food and sunny weather.

Luckily I was able to check out the mystery rock with some delicate hammer work... Very happy we were able to find a specimen this small. Fly poo... more like gnat poo.

I like hearing the words “there’s nothing left at that site, don’t bother.” That just means you need to slow down and pay attention.

P.S. He was on a secret White's mission! Secret well not anymore! After showing those pictures! When can we preorder the new secret White's Hybrid metal detector?????

This is just cruel. I hope your proud of yourself ........

I can't wait to see what White's has been cooking up.

Yeah and we can start preordering that new White's hybrid detector a year in advance, like the Equinox!

I am working under the constraints of a non-disclosure agreement. People on forums who talk about NDAs being lifted or removed have no idea how NDAs work. I will be subject to the NDA as regards certain proprietary and development information until the day I die. It should also be obvious that certain accessories are not available yet and work is ongoing, and therefore information regarding performance employing those accessories are still subject to NDAs.

I work around all this better than anyone I know but there are still limits to what I can say and when I can say it.

Hi Steve, this sounds to me like selling your soul to Minelab, signing some thing till the day you die . I hope for you that the rewards for doing this are accept able.

Having seen the impact chirp technology has had on the recreational marine sounder market I believe this technology in detectors will have the same  impact on market preference . As good as the GM is in what it does , it’s a shame that minelab has introduced this quantum shift in technology so soon after releasing the GM . The monster may be a good choice for countries like Africa where ruggedness and simplicity where forefront in market aims , I just think that designers were a bit late replacing the eureka knowing that this technology was already on the table. On the plus side for those of us who have purchased a Gold Monster they do look to have a much more robust design for knocking around in the goldfields, a more convenient battery set up , and a choice of large and small coils rugged enough to bash between cracks and crevices as well as great boosted audio for identifying those small pieces.

The only thing I do not like of the GM 1000 is that you can't use it under water. If Minelab would have made the GM also as a under water unit , I would have bought one! That's why if Minelab comes out with a closed 5 x 10 "" coil it can replace the GM 1000 and makes it more versatile and can be used for under water nugget shooting!

  8. Thanks for this very good and impressive report Wayfarer, makes it easier for me to make a decision to buy the Equinox or not, it's good I did not jump in during the hype and feeding frenzy buying of the Nox. I am going to wait till Minelab comes out with the smaller coil or the closed 5" x 10" coil, since I I want the unit for nugget hunting!

Will be waiting for your next report with the 6 inch coil, and maybe it will change my mind! Looking forward to see how the NOx does with smaller coil on gold nuggets. Hope Minelab comes out quickly with a closed 5" x 10" inch coil, would jump in right away, and buy the NOx!

If you can unscrew 5 allen head screws and use a pair of needle nose pliers, you got it whipped :) The whole process can be done before a pot of coffee brews, including the installation process.

Your right, easy peasy ,and always don't forget to put a little bit of silicone grease on the seal. This prevent the seal from drying out,and prevent leaks in the future.

It would be sensible for most people to leave this alone until the need arises. Just posting how the battery comes out is not saying everyone should run out and do it. Why would you? I sure will not unless I think the battery is getting weak. Some people however just do not care about warranty - I have completely disassembled and rebuilt several new detectors just for the heck of it. The bottom line here is people have been spreading crazy rumors about unservicability and the Equinox being a throwaway detector. Maybe this will put some of that to rest. Thanks.

For sure this put my mind on ease Steve, from now on, I just go in the field with one of those big Vapor smokers, and if my battery quits just use the battery of my big vapor smoker. Only created an other problem for myself. Now I can't smoke! So what is more important smoking or detecting?

Sorry to hear of any possible problems so soon, hope it "corrects" itself without further incident. Perhaps we should keep this thread to keep track of all reports of problems no matter how big or small. If anyone hears of anything from other forums it should be noted here too.

That would be very good, so Minelab will know, and fix it in their next online update!

This is one of the few real uses I have found for the single frequency modes.

I've had my 800 out three days and to about a half a dozen locations and noticed that it is indeed somewhat sensitive to EMI.  Also, the coil on the Equinox because of its double D design has extra signals at the edge of the coil, in fact much stronger "edge" signals than any other DD coil I've used, and this makes for a very chattery audio especially when sweeping over numerous shallow targets.

At one location, a park near a federal building, the EMI was so bad that I had to switch out of Multi and go to 10 kHz to quiet the detector down.  The EMI seemed to be coming in through the 5 kHz channel, which was very noisy, but all the others were quiet.  This is a location I've hunted many times with other detectors and the only other detector besides the Equinox that was this sensitive to EMI was my V3i.  I guess that is the downside of a sparky detector running many frequencies simultaneously with a greater chance of picking up EMI.  But it's not un-tamable.  You just have to make sure you do a good noise cancel, drop the sensitivity, and switch to single frequency if absolutely necessary.

This is a "hot" detector.  It's good that Minelab didn't dumb it down just to make it more stable.

Federal building ? Must be big brother keeping an eye on you with all their spy equipment!

Australia had the first batch of Equinox 600 & 800's delivered yesterday.

I was very lucky,  I use a small local retailer and his list was not too long plus he had a couple of people not quite ready for their equinox.

Totally unexpected but I got his call late yesterday. I was at the store just after he opened this morning (Saturday here)

I only put my name down late December but happily scored one of the 10x  800's delivered to him from Minelab.

    Charging up as I type.

Lets hope a good number got rolled out to fellow Aussies as we cannot have the Americans having all the fun..

Great summer weather here so no snow or ice to contend with. (just sunburn and the heat)

    cheers and happy swinging

To all those patiently waiting, I hope time goes quick and delivery to you comes early.

Happy hunting with your new Nox, and show us some nice glittering Aussie gold finds.

Sure I will do that, I have a variety of sizes of gold now I can test on from my finds with my Gold Monster 1000 and the Sluice.

My results are likely to differ to people elsewhere though as we have very mild soil here, even in our gold areas.

Thanks PHRUNT, would be very interesting to see your test, even with mild soil, any test is better than no test!

Looking forward to it, and I know , I will be not the only one!

Well, after going off getting an 800 I've decided to bite the bullet and get one.  The real world tests are coming back much better than I expected, I figured there was going to be quite a bit of negativity due to how hyped up it was, that negatively just doesn't seem to be there.

In saying hyped up I'm not saying by the people who already had access to one, it was hyped the most up by people wanting one! It seems it was worth the wait.

I might just have to start doing some detecting other than gold prospecting to get the most out of it though, at least that can be done almost anywhere.

Since you having your NOx soon in hands, maybe you can show us some field test on gold, would be very interesting to see how the NOx works on small gold nuggets in the field of production units, and also a test of the NOx versus Gold Monster would be very interesting. I see that you own a Gold Monster. Please show us a comparison test against the NOx! You will be the first one to give a test like this, since I don't see any test on gold nuggets anywhere yet.

    Thanks
