I'm not a fan of the 99 target ID's to begin with, I liked the compressed Nox 800 ID's better. But that just my preference. On the Nox 800 you could expect of spread of 2-3 at the most. But on the 900 I'm seeing as much as a 10 number difference one way or the other. High conductors are not the issue I've dug several 12" quarters and a half at the beach that were within 1 or 2 numbers of what they read in the air. Nickels on the other hand have been all over the place 23-29 at depth. But it really is no concern to me as I don't park hunt much and I'm going to dig practically anything that is a positive number beach, gold or relic hunting.
I have to believe there will be a software fix for the unstable spread TID numbers for the 900. That's just too much spread for a target reading. My 800 spread of maybe 2 numbers is fine in my book. My AT Pro also shows 1 or 2 numbers on a 99 number scale. If “ancient” AT Pro technology can produce a tight TID on a 99 scale, one would think state of the art 900 technology could/should be able to do the same on a 99 scale. A 10 number difference is not acceptable.

Good report, Chase. Glad to hear they F I N A L L Y fixed the glitchy pinpoint! And live TID is the icing on the cake.

Interesting on the 800/900 11” coil swap. We should be hearing from others soon in that regard.
On the more “bouncy” numbers, I guess I'd expect some of that since the 900 scale is basically double the 800 scale. IE a coin that might use 1 or 2 ID numbers might now use 2 or 3 - or 4?

The 900 cuff is made using a more flexible plastic than the 800 cuff. The 900 cuff should hold up a lot better.

Great write-ups, Jeff. Great photos. Thanks for taking the time and sharing!

That's such disappointing news, Chase. Looks like Minelab still has a lot to learn about component suppliers and manufacturing quality control. Nothing learned from their Equinox foray. I wonder how long it will be until the leak reports start coming in. Probably when warm weather returns in the US.
Good luck, Chase. I hope the FT Bedford repair depot has laid in a good supply of control pods and you get a quick turnaround.

Really great info and pics, Dan. Very informative. It looks like replacing failed 800 control pods with a 900 pod is out of the question.

More manual questions:
Has anyone seen any mention of the warranty duration? I emailed this question to ML quite a while ago and no answer.
Do the 700/900 machines still use the annoying (to change) screen protector?

The Nox 700/900 seem to have doubled the ID scale resolution. Could anyone offer a guess if this simply means doubling the numerical resolution (as in US nickel moving from 13 to 26 etc.) or also stretching/compressing the scale and thus ID values changing locations (i.e. knowing the IDs on older Nox/Vanquish wouldn't be useful in predicting how items will ring on the extended scale)?
This should help answer your question:

Can we assume that the wired waterproof headphones we already have for the Equinox will work with the 700, 900, and Mantitcore?
Yes

Not only is the Bluetooth gone, but so is the separate wireless module. It’s no longer included with the Equinox 900, and not listed as an accessory. So I surmise whatever Minelab is using now is totally different, and only the included ML85 headphones are going to work with the new models. The only way to use any other headphone will be via the optional wired adapter. Instead of the module, you now get a 6” coil. A better option for some I suppose, but others are going to miss that module. Will the old one work? Don’t know, but seems doubtful.
Good catch on the no longer provided WM08. I missed that one. I'll miss the WM08 which was great on sunny, hot days with wide brim hats where you couldn't use headphones, but could use wired ear buds. We may have to resort to those cheap BT TX/RX units and use our old BT headphones with them. I've used them with other non-BT detectors and they do work.

Looks like the 900 will be $1099 USD.

I'd expect the 800's & 600's will be dropped when the new Nox's hit the dealers and the market gets flooded with used 800's and 600's and the “used” prices plummet.

I think there are a ton of Nox fans out there who probably feel the Manticore may be a wallet buster and would give something like the new Noxs a shot. The learning curve would probably be a lot shorter than with the Manticore.
So many improved features over the 800 & 600. I guess the answer to your question comes down to where they price them, Gerry. IMHO.

Most of us have moved on with multifrequency or are doing so. Yes, single frequency will be around for entry level or specialized niche detectors. But time moves on, and you can either move with it, or be an old fuddy duddy living in the past.
What would be nice is after four years, Minelab took some of the improvements made with Manticore, and refreshed the Equinox with an update. No new electronics, but some new hardware would be nice. That Manticore rod is what most of us wanted, and many of us made for ourselves or bought aftermarket. If I were Minelab, I'd would ditch the leaky Nox pod and replace it with the Manticore pod. Reduce having two pods with one for production economy of scale, and eliminate some of the warranty expense Nox has been incurring. Win win. Equinox II + Manticore = More Sales
The best idea I've heard yet! Yes, a lot of us have gone the carbon fiber shaft route, have reinforced our coil ears and that leaves the control pod leakage unsolved, although with many hours of submerged use, thankfully, my pod has remained dry. I'd sure like to go from 50 VDI segments to 100 like my AT Pro has. My 800 is doing just fine though. I'm not ready to chase rainbows as I'm very comfortable on land and in water with it.

Looks like they're a fairly new product. Wired (of course), assembled in USA, 2 year warranty. I haven't found any reviews covering sound quality or construction quality yet. Here's one dealer's listing:
Any users out there? Any comments? My guess is the connector will be the same for the Manticore.
-
I would definitely go with the Minelab battery from the Ft Bedford repair folks. It will have the correct wiring and connector for trouble-free replacement. It also has 3 wires in the pigtail, not the simple 2 terminal battery form.

I use a set of ear buds that came with a Roku for the remote control with my WM08 module. They work great.

What is the inline probe supposed to offer over the deadly pinpoint accuracy of the built-in Nox pinpointer? And for another $249.00?
-
Bluetooth connection to headphones does not work when the control pod is under water. This is normal and not a detector problem. Get a pair of wired waterproof headphones for water detecting for both communication with the pod and so you don't ruin the non-waterproof bluetooth headphones.

Ditto. Nox 800 received in Feb. 2018. Submerged in fresh & saltwater many times. No leaks, no port cracking.

I haven't had that problem with my WM08. I keep it in an upper shirt pocket when I use it. Have you tried it further away from the control pod?
