My curiosity about 4 kHz got the best of me a couple of days ago so I set some coins out in my back yard for a quick, informal test.  I used 4 kHz in all the modes except the beach & gold modes.  I had the coil about 2” or 3” above the coins.  Quarters and dimes hit in 4 kHz about as good as with multifrequency.  Didn't bother with pennies.  4 kHz did not pick up the nickel in any mode tested.  So, the first question is will 4 kHz hit a gold ring which might ring up in the mid to low teens on a beach or anywhere else in any park or field detect mode?  How about gold chains?  More testing to do someday.
Beach 1 has always worked well for me in the wet & dry on saltwater beaches in New England & FL & Beach 2 has always worked great in the saltwater.  Park1 in multi does it for me on fresh water beaches and in the water.  For now I'll stick with multi if there's any possibility of finding gold jewelry.  If it works, don't fix it.

Long shot here, but what you describe sounds like what you might experience if the pinpointer is turned on and you are detecting with it turned on.  Do you see changing VDI numbers or do you think the Nox is stuck in pinpoint mode?

As 67GTA states it could be heavy EMI.  Are you under a powerline or hunting over a buried powerline?

Is your cell phone turned off or are you near a cell tower?

Is your coil cable connector clean and tight?

Do you think setting the Nox control pod in the sun with the battery removed the sun would draw out the moisture?  Other option would substitute a plastic tub filled with rice for the sun to draw out the moisture?

My coil ears broke on a high school soccer field this summer.  I had a coil ear stiffener attached - didn't help at all.  I don't use it anymore.  Replacement coil took about a week - kudos to Ft Bedford Minelab repair depot team.  Both ears broke at the base and the coil just fell off, dangling by the cable.

I spoke with John at Ft Bedford I asked if anyone knew what was causing the problem and how aware Minelab was of the problem.  John said he felt over tightening of the coil bolt appeared to stress the coil ears causing them to break.  He also said Minelab was very much aware of the problem.  The replacement coil came with the washers, coil bolt and coil cover.  I keep the coil bolt looser now - so far, so good.

The 800 is going swimming tomorrow - we'll see how that goes 🤥

Coil ears, drowned control pods and the annoying weak sound pinpointing issue.  Will these problems ever be remedied?

I switched to it to test its characteristics and I found it 'cutting out' on a couple of targets and not very useful on others.  My swing technique and digging targets up near the top edge of the coil are often the best ways to dig targets.

While I was detecting I thought that Minelab is pinpointing challenged in the Equinox and the Pinpointers.  They need to have a dedicated 'Engineer of Pinpointing' to address their problems in that regard.  I do waste a fair amount of time zeroing in on targets.

My brother and I both have 800s and spent 4 hours or so detecting yesterday.  We both are using Version 3 firmware.  We both experienced the low audio issue with the Nox pinpointer several times during the outing.  The “fix” is to turn the pinpoint function off then back on again, same as with all of the 3 firmware versions prior to Version 3.  This gets the pinpoint audio back to normal as most of us already know.  You would think by this time ML would have come up with a fix for this lingering problem.  I'd trade 4 kHz for a pinpoint function fix.

Like others, I doubt the problem is being caused by the new firmware version.

If water, especially saltwater, leaked into your coil that could be a likely cause.  Try the other detect modes to see if the problem occurs across all 8 detect modes.  If it does, try to hook up to a friend's coil and see if that eliminates the problem.  I bet it does.  Either way you'll probably end up shipping the control pod and your coil to Minelab for warranty replacement.  They will need both pieces to confirm the problem.  Good luck.

Yes, triangle overload symbol has been There since day one.  Page 10 in the manual.

If the factory reset doesn't solve the problem do you have a fellow Nox owner that would let you try his coil?  Thinking maybe you had a coil leak.  Do you read -9 in the other detect modes as well?

Yes, as Nordic says above, you need to download and run the new update installer.  You ran the version 2 installer.

No sign of a Version 3 manual on the Minelab web site yet, like the Version 2 manual they provided for download.  Anybody know of an updated manual for Version 3 that might shed some light on the new “various” features?

Have you tried your pinpointer to see if it “sees” the target in the plug as well as scanning the hole?  Seems like an obvious question, but you didn't mention this.

A lot depends on how deep in the water you plan to go.  Speakers won't do well below the surface as the water may dampen the speaker movement and thus the sound.  Piezos will perform better under water.  If you don't plan on diving I'd go with the Pelsos.  I have a pair and the sound is decent.  They will sound better than the piezos out of the water.

Why would you do that?

The initial charge usually takes several hours so a full charge in one hour the first time out sounds very suspicious.  Even after using the detector for 3 or 4 hours requires several hours to recharge the battery.  Try a Factory Reset like 2Valen suggests and see if that fixes the problem.  Like the others above, my guess is the detector is at fault and it's time for a warranty repair or dealer replacement.  Good luck, hope you're back in the game soon.

Jeff pretty much hit it with his posting.  Ground balance & noise cancel are a must.  I don't use 50 tones - too much for my brain to handle.  5 tones for P1, P2, F1, F2 & B1.  2 tones for B2.  I turn the iron tone down to 4 so it's less annoying.  I move the T3 tone break up to 20 and the T4 tone break up to 31 so I don't get the tone bounce between tone breaks on zincolns (19/20) and quarters (29/30) when coin shooting.  I'll play with recovery speed and iron bias depending on site conditions, using the F2 settings for iron bias to get more range.  It all comes down to where you are detecting - parks, fields or the woods and what the ground conditions are.  I detect fresh and saltwater beaches.  P1 setting for fresh, B1 for salt in the dry and wet & B2 in the saltwater.  No gold to hunt around here.

Some obvious questions:

Earbuds are charged up?  Nox volume is turned up?  Earbuds volume turned up?  Did you use a quick charger to charge the earbuds?  I believe they recommend not using a quick charger and using a charger rated at 1 amp or less.  Have you tried pairing the earbuds to a phone or other device to make sure they are OK?  Do you have a friend who owns an 800 who will let you try pairing his ML wireless headphones for testing?

If you've had the same problem with other BT earbuds or headphones even after factory reseting your 600 I'm guessing you may have a problem in your Nox control pod.  Try calling ML service depot in PA and maybe they suggest something to try.  Good luck.

Have you tried moving to different locations to eliminate interference sources such as buried dog fences, electric fences, underground power lines, overhead power lines, cell towers, wifi signals, etc.?  Find some “quiet”, isolated place and give that a try.  If that fails, do as Tom Slick says in the previous response, call Minelab Customer Service and send it in.  Their Customer Service is great.

Responses above are correct.  That happens for “surface” (close to coil) targets.  Bury your target several inches or simply raise your coil about 6” above the surface target and you will find you get one beep.

I made the “forgot to come out of pinpoint mode” a couple of times when I first got my 800.  Easy mistake to make coming from an ATPro where you have to hold the button down.  After hunting for 20 minutes without a target and discovering my mistake I've since learned to check the display.

I don't see a need for any lock buttons.  Looking at your display from time to time should keep even the novices out of trouble.

I could make my own in the time it takes to wade through all the contest rules & regs.
