  1. Steve do you think this statement has changed?:  is more sensitive to high frequency targets and slightly less sensitive to low frequency targets.

I believe this was a comparison of BBS/FBS...... seems the low freq part may have based on the nuggets you guys have found.   High freq like silver may be nothing more than the depth........and since they say its just slightly less i dare say here on a Fl beach its going to be insignificant..... HOWEVER this latest turn may well have improved the gold performance for us beach hunters.

Which mode (s) are you referring to?  All the non-beach gold finding modes (Park/Field 2 and Gold) use higher weighted Multi IQ meaning favoring the higher frequencies which is more favorable to small gold detection.  If you are referring to the both beach modes, then yeah, those are both low weighted and would not seem to be conducive to detecting small gold.

Chase.... ive been told even with those very low freq combos the machines seems to operate like a 15khz with their tweaking.   Did you see the chart doing comparisons to other detectors?   Pretty general as to the high points.   Not sure they were fair to Deus on gold hunting  since it does have 2 higher freq or beach since the dry sand is more than half of beach hunting.   BUT..... obviously ML feels they have a winner as an overall machine.   Battery could be the weak point..... depending on its durability to last.

  3. It is confusing........ i noticed it used very low freq.... surely it doesnt mean the same to me or it would seem counter production to finding gold.... unless in some way it does some wrap around.   Hey... .... if it finds gold.... ill take it.   I look forward to you nugget posts Steve..... will we get a picture and a bit of info ..... approx depth and weight?   Yes im asking for a lot lol.

I'm thinking lower weighted is a combination of something like, 15kHz and 5kHz, and very low weighted as, 10kHz and 5kHz.

From what Minelab is saying, the single frequencies don't have a significant advantage over Multi-IQ. You may get more depth, but lose accuracy using only 1 frequency.

TS........ i dont remember ML saying they used the single freqs and combined them.   Multi..... couple or bunch.  They really havent said which .... or better yet HOW MANY maybe combined/transmitted like they did with BBS/FBS.

  5. Steve..... now it takes me back to those nuggets..... dare i assume they were found using multi freq?   IF thats the case ive got to believe even for salt water we could be looking at some WOW factors out there...... things we just couldnt find before.    In beach mode.... when it says LOW combo of freqs..... vs VERY low for mode 2...... is that something like the combined freqs might equal 5khz for low and 3 khz for VERY low since you have to deal with the salt?

Ill take my hat off to you testers and ML .......you guys are putting together what seems to be a great all around machine for an ungodly price.   Really seems all of you are talking the same language on this one.

  6. For water hunters Chase ........ just having the option to change coils and headphones is a big plus.   A good many are hard wired dive machines which we use as waders.  No box to open........ or flood.    Comes with a straight shaft not S shaft and can easily be used as a travel machine.   Like the CTX we will again have the TID screen with its information and light for hunting in the dark........ and it has that screen protector.

  7. Thanks Steve...... i was wondering if it was being used when those tiny nuggets were found?   Obviously if it was people need to realize that.   How sensitive is it to minerals.......... im thinking wet salt sand?   Always looking for an edge Steve lol.  It also makes me realize i just might need one of those PPer i have in a box and not used for years.

  8. Steve ....... to my knowledge this will be the ONLY machine that is truly a do it all...... we just have noting to compare it to.   I believe whats really got people excited is the price tag for what they will be getting.    Lets face it....... this machine raises the eyebrows of about anyone wanting to hunt with the added freq ect.  They can now dabble in areas before they just couldnt justify buy a separate machine for.    This is going to be a fun detector........... has ML raised the bar and set the standard in true multi use machines?

  9. I have no expectation that the EQ is going to out perform FBS as a dirt machine.   We also know conditions very based on area....... the machine may be its equal in one area and fall on its face in another.   Same goes for programs..... we may find out its competes welll on the beach but now so well relic hunting...... lot of that has to do with expectations vs results.    If i find my $800 (military discount lol) can be the Xcal or CTX equal in the water..... thats huge for me just because of its advantages..... light, gold freq for dry sand, and having a TID screen with some program capabilities....... and its simple.

  10. Steve....... you confused me when you said it had 19 channels then went from - to + digits.   Is this different than FBS which has 11 channels each with random freqs?   Ive been on the beach to long so you may have to break this down lol.  YOu push noise cancel....... then it runs thru these channels or you can manually set... -9 ect?   what confused me is the digits you listed since noise cancel is normally just a push of the button and we have no idea whats going on .... just that it works lol.

  11. Gary....... im thinking a lot like you... minus the wife lol.   I currently have to choose the best time to use the CTX.   On those big swell days you sure dont want to try and push the CTX..... its not worth the effort because you just dont have the coil control needed.   Lucky im on the Gulf side.   Its nice for those 4am hunts with the lite screen........ unlike the Xcal.   Ill likely put the machine on my own CF straight shaft.... the longer swing covers more sand/water as well.   I hunt in PP with the Xcal..... so there really isnt a lot of recovery speed like in disc.... and for the most part recovery isnt a problem for me....... BUT THEN, you dont know do you until you start finding targets?   It may come into play a LOT more in the dry sand with those higher freq....... all that tiny stuff.   You can bet ill be testing it on small chains......i might actually have to buy a PPer.  I have no expectations of it being deeper either ........ but maybe better if its more efficient out there by covering more sand faster, getting smaller targets, or those near iron missed by the other two.   We may look at how this machine out performs BBS/FBS differently than ML.   How will we judge this machines water real potential?   Im thinking an end of year count.   Ill be running mine full time...... thats a lot of hours in a year and should have a good handle on where its strengths lie.   I often hit a beach 2 or 3 days in a roll with different machines.   Im sure ill get a hunt with another guy i know to do some target comparisons as well who knows his CTX.   Im hoping it noise cancels as well as the CTX.   You cant even get in the same neighbor hood with two Xcals lol.   But the CTX does a nice job allowing you to hunt near someone.

  12. How many salt water machines do you know that cant compete out there even against the CTX?  Whites BH maybe.   MLs  says that it wont be as good as BBS/FBS in the salt water...... I wouldnt make that statement until you put it in the hands of some of the Gurus out there....... they have a way of making things works better than expected.   Look whats been done with the Xcal...... the ability to hunt in PP and our own headphones still has it as the top dog out there that every things compared to.    Like the Xcal ..... this machine is simple.... light and has some bells with a TID screen and fast recovery .... AND can hunt the dry sand with some new freq that the BBS/FBS cant.    Like most people who water hunt...... or hunt period, its a matter of knowing what the machine is telling you.   It can be a matter of matching the man to the machine as well.  Even a blind squirrel can find a recent drop gold if he goes over it.   The guys who will tell us in a few month will be those guys who can find a piece of gold with a stick......they may just surprise ML.    BBS works different than FBS....... we can PP hunt and gain depth...... and its all about the tones.   CTX/FBS2 brought us some really nice options for smartscreen programs, tones, splatter just to mention a few.......but at a crazy price.   This machine sends the message it does something even different.   BBS is OLD tech..... yet its still here in the Xcal.   Honestly...... targets are where targets are, you dont know what you missed if you missed it.... all you can do is say .... ya i would have gotten that with the other machine at that depth.    This time of the year im looking for older gold from moving sand....... not recent drops which is a bit more challenging........ ill know pretty quick if its a keeper.

  13. like Steve said...... some people beach hunting looking just for gold on a given day will disc penny and above.  Its a percentage game......and more of a tone game than a digit one since i have gotten gold with the same digit as a penny..... but that tone was a bit different somehow.    After several hours we go into zombie mode... especially if we were used to dirt digging.... hearing only high tones.  An occasional hunt not listening to pennies and above can prove interesting.    Take a look at some of those beach programs on the CTX.   They disc out a lot..... i dont mostly because after a hour of swinging my arm gets tired if i dont dig lol.  The problem with notching....... and this machine seems to note it is that notch of a single digit bleeds up or down by a couple of digits.  ML obviously knows that.

  14. I agree Steve...... but as a beach hunter in Fl honestly we dont find a lot of silver...... so this machine offers something the others dont..... the ability to hit smaller/micro gold in dry sand.   That was a good video......... that was in the oat meal there is salt water moving in the sand everytime the waves come in.   A good bit of the chatter in the wave line here in Fl is from concentration of old sea weed that collects black sand and coil flip.   Hunting in PP seems to work best for me there.   If the EQ is as good ...... then i still see some pluses over the BBS/FBS with its ability to hunt in single freq with out having to go get another machine to settle for the larger gold.   My Xcal will pick up a piece of gold about .3 grams....... everything else is waiting on a Deus or now the EQ.

  15. Ive got to ask, how many hunters will hunt more hours than this battery provides?   I can be close some days, but being a water hunting i dont think ill be able to charge and hunt IN the water anyway.   Do we think we need an external battery since compared to previous machines they required large bulky ones?   I noticed it says BATTERY in the manual...... is this just a better design Steve or a lighter one best suited for those that can charge?

  16. Most of the MLs will amaze you how slow they can be sweep..... lot may have to do with fast or deep setting available.   The MLs must have great filtering...... but they lacked the recovery speed.  Its also going to depend on the area/minerals and ground phase.   Machines will very here in different states depends on where you are as to depth.   I think Clive said...... even when a machine runs smooth it may not be getting depth.   should get good depth here in Fl..... looking to see how it handles coil flip in the water.
