G’day George, do you mind telling us what price you paid for the SPP.... just ‘cos I’ve got one I’m thinking of selling here in Oz. Mine has the High/Low Conductivity switch fitted and I’ve also modified the rechargeable battery pack to take eight 3.7 Volt lithium 14500 batteries. (2 parallel banks of 4 ) giving around 15 volts with 4000 m/ah of run time. The extra voltage over the stock 11.5 volt pack gives  much better depth/ sensitivity.

The 12x8 Razorback coil is dynamite on any TDI machine and also handles EMI great, being a folded 8 noise cancelling design.

Just wondering what I should be asking for it ?

I really like your modifications. Adding the high low switch turns it into a TDI Sl. The folded coil also adds value. Great job with the battery packs. 700 to 800 US dollars would be my guess. What a Beauty. I also own a QED 3 with the Sadie and other coils.

Looks like it's never been used!  That stock mono coil (called Oz mono and/or Aussie mono) is a good match for the detector, IMO, at least when you're going after the deeper stuff.  The dual-field mono (which looks the same and was stock on the /SL) might be more useful if you also want to find small stuff closer to the surface.  For me, I've got other detectors for that and I bet you do, too 😏 unless possibly in extremely mineralized ground.  I also have the NuggetFinder Sadie (6"x8") for hunting the small gold nuggets, plus several other coils.  But those two (12" stock mono and NF Sadie) are all I really need.

Did yours come with working rechargeable batteries?  Those small box TDI's eat disposable batteries for lunch -- maybe 4 hours and they're done.  Rechargeables don't necessarily run longer (depends upon the type and configuration) but at least you don't have to throw them out when discharged.

Yes it has rechargeables and I have several other coils to Include the Sadie and it's two other Nugget Finders and several different monos and DD. I can ony hunt about less then four hours.

When I was about 10 years old I spent 2 months on holidays at my great Uncle George and Aunty Ollie in a remote farm in Tasmania. Most of the meat we ate  was rabbits, possum and Kangaroo that was either trapped or shot on the farm. Cows were of the dairy breed and used to make Milk, butter and cheese only. I must say I had enjoyed trapping and the food at the time.

I once grilled a rare haulda Rabbit. Yes Sir.. Hauled it off the road.

George, I am truly sorry that you are so down on your luck and if you drop by I would be glad to cook up some Spam and eggs for you. I can also make a tray of biscuits with some jam and butter to go with them.

Before you leave to go home I can make you a few baloney sandwiches for you trip. Just let me know if you want cheese on them and other condiments that you would like.

I think I also have an RC Cola to go with it so you will have a drink.

Good luck and I hope that you land back on your feet soon.

Wow your the one to talk. RC Cola? I would gladly send 19.00 a month to help support you. 😂

This is a HEATHKIT GD-48 metal detector in this picture. I built one from a kit in 1968. It was my second detector. The first detector I had was a homemade unit that I built from an article in Popular Electronics magazine. It used a transistor radio as the receiver, and the transmitter and coil worked with a simple single transistor circuit.

In the city we used the coil to fry bacon when the sun was hot.

Gold Mountain King Cobra. Bought this back in '80's when it came out because could break down and carry in backpack when helicoptering around Alaska. Never got to use it for that but a lot of fun in the park. Still have it somewhere in the garage, and yes, I also have the 4" coil. I should dig it out and have a go.

It was apparently a Tesoro copy so wasn't around for long. I remember someone was selling copies of the pcb board to build your own which I regret not buying. Would have been a fun project.

    Cheers
