  1.         Short outing 3hr-ish evening hunt. Need to spread out in hopes of finding another yard size area I can walk in circles for years worth of trips. I got out in the woods,it's thick already. It'll be unswingable very soon (some odd fern looking stuff cover the floor, many other undergrowth too) so I got in it. Saw briars be damned, they got me a few times!

Found a 50's or 60's bottle dump, messed around to long in it! Salvaged 3 milk jars(glass),2 coke bottles but killed a 1hr. 🙃 damn trash pile and I'm prowling in it!

I do think I meandered on what potentially was some soldier housing. Found cuff button,cap,2 bullets (1 burnside) and deteriorated sheet metal(period). Loaded with iron and the rotten metal with these few finds in a tight spot. Not far from access road of that period(just thick woods now road is opposite side of land now!

I'll take it and honestly I am excited about it! Who knows when or how much time I'll have to chase it. 1 certainty, good lord leaves me here I will chase it sooner or later any chance I get! My kids are almost big enough to chase with me and they already practice a bit in the yard in va! I hope to bring them to the al field o dreams one day!

Yall be safe, best of luck too!

    A lot of awesome finds.

It is enough to be happy with and some priceless really cool ones here n there. Many folk back when the getting was good it would be insignificant but I've sure put alot of effort into what I have been lucky enough to get! Of course I don't hunt for monetary reasons, only coolness of old things and possible stories attached to them!

  3.   Got out to the field of dreams( detecting here for over 5 years, several hundred hours, mostly over same small area).

Trying to spread out to hit the large areas on property I've never ventured. Found that can buckle in one of these areas few days ago.

These nails and bits if not dug on false are in every single hole dug! It's insane and can lead to hardship atleast for myself! I'm still working out some second guessing from digging signals I shouldn't be!

I love getting out here to this spot though as I know the chance of epic is always valid! The knowing old things are 100% lying around is all any of us could ask for I reckon!

The thin metal piece is like a ar bolt cover,it has attachment places tiny little holes like a flapper of some sort.

My finds tackle box. I know how tough it is for some to get on good ground or my experience says it is anyway! I've dug maybe 150 bullets,50+ shot or smashed added to it,around 20 cw buttons, lot of clad,10 or so silvers not really a coin chaser though, flat buttons, cannister shot , cannonball frags, box plate, cav buckle and many random items. 3/4 of all relics from this field of dreams! Ive had long stretches of many outings low numbers of sought after relics to show. Gave many of bullet to anyone interested to spread interest and because I'm just that way I reckon!

Have a great day fellas,be safe. You are your own first responder!

  4. Hey guys,

Besides death, broken sling how would these soldiers go about losing a buckle? I get many ways so I guess I'm asking is it more likely buckles, chess pieces, worked bullets, and you know stuff other then bullets are in and around living quarters of a redoubt or stockade!?

4 skirmish battles took place in this spot (railroad bridge) occupied with 20/30 dudes but had many coming and going even changing from yank to reb. I've found alot and it's so covered in iron I know there's much more then I've found over 5 years. Depending on day,my attention,my swings I walk over and over same limited area and never fail popping things and every time I walk over a spot I wrote off I pop more so I know whr I've found most buttons (pretty concentrated) whr I found officer coat and cuff (off away from other buttons) box plate, horse shoes, seemingly a pile of Williams cleaners, sheeting like tin and so on and I'd like to create the space in my head and need yalls help.

Has anyone else noticed a huge uptick in obvious faked finds being posted?  Not here...but on other sites and in particular, social media hunting group pages?  I'm talking about silver and copper coins "in the dirt pile" pictures that have zero oxidation, patina, etc and the silver look like it's been rubbed on with metal polish paste...that kind of luster to them.  I guess they thrive on comments or something. I saw some tonight on an arrowhead group I'm on...guy had 5 modern points posted together that are the kind you get at the souvenir shops, gas stations, and such...not even made from material found here in the US...and claims he found them at a certain place near me.  If he did...somebody planted them as a joke.  I thought he was posting the picture as a joke but he said he knows their real because he knows other people have found native rocks there too.  🤔   Well heck...I guess beer cans are from the Civil War because we find them on property we also find Civil War relics too.  Stuff like that probably shouldn't irk me but for some reason it does.

In out modern attention media moron atmosphere I wouldn't be a bit surprised if fake finds or channels wouldn't be a real leader in the genre. Integrity be darned if a person could do it with clear conscious it would sure blow by the reality channels of tough world!

It's a shame and all we cam do is fight it when we see it I reckon!

  6. Hey fellas,

It's been a bit since my last post! Still here lurking in the shadows though!

I've had pretty crap luck on good finds but detecting is still my therapy and I've bopper around steadily. Combined with point lookin!

Yesterday evening got off work in (al) was close to the field of dreams so I headed for her! Got out, shot the crap with owner and set up 2 d2s or one remote and 9" unit and the ws6,wsa and 11×13 strapped my pads on and took off!

About 10 steps in 93,94,96 93 signal was sounding much like some frustration materials but that's high numbers so I dug. Probably 13" down this baby popped out and I was a happy son of a buck!

Wild this spot is as bullets and many things are 3" deep so this find tells me I need a damn earth moving company to stack the relics! Lol

Made my day, week and broke my whiny butt no good finds mentality!

        Be safe fellas and enjoy

Hot Damm son! just dig it all. you will have a Hell of a lot better time and will be amazed at what surprises turn up.

Your most likely not wrong I've considered it and I'm leaning that way. I would find more. I know box plates and more at a small fort I know ehr housing was I've found pot stuff and the sheeting along with personal items and there is thousands of signals matching my one box plate pull and I keep walking lol 😆 I need a week to live there

  8. Must be noted I also show iron to correlate all holes produce it whether good target is there or not. Important info surely as every good target has colocation carpet style. I assume all great relic sites are similar or maybe the tough ones and that's why I find things everyone else may have given up

  9. Guys I left out I never run IA. This could contribute to iron sniffing surely. As I said though I've hunted same sights and dig basic detecto how to be successful detecting such things as calm 2 way signal digging and walk away from broken forced tones plenty o rounds. Dig little iron,NB's this way but when basics breakdown for whatever reason trust me "I know guys,I know yuns know" like tn said hardware store is about to happen. Lol

I detect in France where some areas are probably more iron trashed than in the US . Looking  to the pic above I see nails , you should never detect nails with the D2 using the factory modes ( except the All metal modes of course like RELIC or GOLD ) , then I suppose that you use a wrong setting or the machine is faulty . Which D2 mode are you using ?

Well sir you are mistaken or my nails and nail bits are really special. I'm gonna hoard em up now your telling me they must be the only one d2 hits!? Lol 😆. To each his own and thanks for input. My experience is 6.8 disc all programs, sil 0, bc 2 usually any bent, bulbous will high tone but broken atleast one way mostly. Yes with patience you can eliminate much iron collection but without patience and with frustration you'll have a mtn of it. Same with most machines. D2 is imo best atleast trumps last generation. IMHO but I'm a simple pleb

  11. Boy howdy,

I kept calm but not easily.

Al mud is most likely responsible for a few bogged down deaths over the course of history. It's rough and I had it,well all over me self! Lol

All worth it though as I didn't dig all the nails and nail bits while confirming atleast to myself this place will provide days of something I love for a long time to come.

I've put so much time at thus spot and I don't even change locations while always digging atleast a cw bullet. Some days from beginning 5 years ago to recent 7/10 and buttons, etc. When NB'S are involved can it be dug out? I'm not so sure when change 5° it lights up.wild

I also can confirm 2 previous anger ridden outings were also rainy, muddy and shitty. Today same and madness was creepin and my wife broke it with a call lol then I realized miserable situation was most 🙃 at blame and I am choosing the miserable situation for fun so such it up.

        Thanks fellas

Mental detecting funk? Frustrated?? Lost your confidence ??? Best cure is to hang your detector on the wall for a month. Clear your mind. Sip some good bourbon or rye. Or book a detecting trip to the UK. Either one should snap you out of it.

I concur time and pressure on self off cures most alements!

Well, too many targets is a good kind of problem to have, LOL! Maybe just shovel everything into a sifter to sort it all out. 😉

I wonder about years past trash management that's for sure. I reckon if your not rubber tired who cares right? I'm also very ok with a days digging 1 flat button to be clear I don't get frustrated over finds or lack it's just digging iron on repeat when I'm capable of very high percentage not doing so 🙃! That's the main point I'm usually the ass kicker to non ferrous to ferrous lap everyone on holes guy but the nail put broke me. Lmao

  14. 2 minutes ago, NCtoad said:

Seriously though.  If you’ve hit a site so much that you’re just digging non- ferrous signals, you need to turn your silencer and bottlecap reject both to zero.  Then you will dig nails that sound good.  But that’s what you’re gonna have to do in hopes to find something good intermingled with iron.

This is true and it's always been the toughest place I've ever swung. This should be factored more when going probably as I know what it could turn into but I also know it's a only I've swung cw camp plus wealthy 1800 speaking slave owning first few family in county kinda farm so I guess expectations contribute. Darn Shame it seems the square nail watchers dumped the square nail heaven on the grounds. And now that I'm actually thinking slowing down wouldn't hurt lol damnit it sucks when one realizes many many lessons still await!?

  15. I'm pulling up on a out of state field of dreams atm "grace of God permission 6hrs from home" back to Alabama site and I'm going to attempt keeping my head/mind and shake it off I reckon. Lol update on how this intent plays out in 5,6hrs. Thanks fellas and probly good info to have is I can go from 0 to 1000 in a instant "flawed" so this doesn't lend itself to calm sometimes which no doubt is a huge factor at play 😀

  16. 6 minutes ago, CPT_GhostLight said:

Well, that's a lot, lol! First, have you made any changes to the machine since you started the site, changes in coils, software updates, program tweeks, etc?

Is eveything fully charged?  That sound dumb, but low voltage can make electronics do some strange things.

Have you tried doing some air tests or even test garden tests off of the site? That would help eliminate or expose machine problems.

There is some discussion of the D2 affected by silent EMI which can come or go depending on the source. Maybe do a frequency scan or manually change the frequency at the site. Also try single frequency mode between 10kHz-17kHz and see if anything improves.

These are just some ideas to try. I'm no expert, but when things change drastically at a site you are hitting over and over, look for the possible source of the change. It could be the equipment, the settings, the environment, or it could just be cleaned out.

    Hope that helps.

It's a me issue I haven't broken down in mind far enough to handicap myself other then digging 1 way, cracked, broken iffy signals which snowballs into 40 more every hole this happens causing 5 more to follow self depreciation detecting! Sorry I should clearly state the issues all fall between my ears and my desire/long time coming finding of what I know is general w e jones and a camp on a site that's just tip top tough to begin with. It's truly a dig and you'll have several to many bits o metalic in every hole yard to 300yds out in a field it's nutty.

Slumping on good site. Limited time digging, chasing the bucket and all the things that cause less then efficient digging. Lol

3 trips in a row I've regressed to infancy. Confidence shook and moral gone haha "frustrated and angry at self". I recently found a small batch of gardners around home where written info is bordering none and the stuff existing non definitive. I've spent 5 years in book/interweb scouring with many trips to possible camp locations.

With the lead found and knowing property owner nsme/history it's 100% atleast a night stop of 1200 va cav. Also read Yankees ransacked so it's visited by the prize dropping folk and been lived on since single digit 1800's. I've detected property for years as well but I was a beginner and it has alot going on to say the least. I once wrote it off as pushed but it's just nails and nail bits.

Anyway went back with d2 right away had more success then atpro, multik, nox and started pulling mid 1800 flats,Indians and doodads. Then got put in a field found loads of leather rivets, boot cap, gardners came up I got excited and now I only dig iron and wanna wrap this machine around a tree! Talk me out of it and Lay down your own thoughts or experiences lol

Oh I'm at the solid or frustrated mentally impatient point of digging what I'd swear to be cw bullet solid hits I've dug confidently so many times calling it and what do I find bulbious rusty nail!:,(

Here I have a big hematite area and the mineralization strenght bar is full. Readings are on seventies and sometimes on early eighties. It’s a really hot soil, red dirt..

I've never read up on this mineralization stuff, I live in sw tip va and never get a gb under 78 and usually don't gb. 3 to 5 bars on d2. 9" maxish depth on quarters, minie balls n most things even on nox so I assume the dirt to have mineralization but that's only educated assuming. Comparing others performance to mine education lol many time 6" minie ball only sounds off one way and broken to notta the other!? Any quick opinion or lessons would be appreciated

Only had my D2 for about 2 weeks after swinging the D1 for about 7 years.

Today I was out testing settings on a country lot (in western AR) that had a house back in the early 1900s, aerials show it was not standing in 1957.  A few Wheats and a IH have been found along, a very ornate broach and a bridle buckle that may be CW vintage.  I wasn't getting many good signals after an hour and a half and had only been digging junk.

I got to wondering about what depth I was getting with the different custom programs I had set up so I buried a clad Dime about 10 inches deep.  None of my custom programs would give a response.  I was using the Silver Slayer,  a modified Park.  DHC 6.8, a DHC notched to 40 and a couple of others.  All with Silencer at 1, Iron at 1 or 0, Sensitvity in the high 90s  Reactivity .5 to 1.  The ground grab was consistently at 78.

I was very baffled by this so I thought what other setting could I adjust.  It then dawned on me that I had never adjusted Ground Stability.  So I went from 2 down to 1.  The Silver Slayer program rang out loud and clear.  The DHC got it but not as cleanly, Relic barely, and a modified Park not at all.

The ID was down in the 50s which concerned me, no adjustment to the notching brought it back into the 80s or above.  When notching the DHC to 80 it disappeared completely.

I decided to dig it up and try a shallower depth to try to learn more.  When I pulled the plug and got the MI-6 out I discovered  that there were two old nails in the hole.

I reburied the Dime about 5" deep and it rang up in the low 90s.  Once again, the SS program rang out the best of my custom programs considering my settings. At that point I called it a day.

Makes me wonder wonder what i missed with Ground Stability at the default of 2.

Any thought about this experience would be appreciated?

I've basically ran solely in 1 on any program since go! I have one site rough soil or I assume so if I use 1 it's insanity on my ear canal. 3 bars on minimal meter. Certainly makes a big difference imo
