I've been meaning to get up to the foot hills for months now.. It's only an hour and a half away but it might as well be 3000 miles when you let distractions get in the way. My main reason for wanting to get in that ground was two fold. I needed to try out my GPX 6000 in some historic gold bearing ground since I had it modified due to the factory recall. Second and less important was to see how the Manticore reacted to some hot dirt away from where I normally detect. . I've been to this place many times. It's a hard hunt every time. Two gold coins and multiple seated we've pulled out of here over the years. One can only dream about what what it was like 40 yers ago.
I started out with the GPX 6000 detecting where I have found some gold in the past. I hunted for about an hour and a half with the stock 11" coil and the GPX purred like a kitten the whole time. A big difference from my last outing at this spot. I did not find any gold but dug lots of lead pellets that sounded good. Happy with the repair so far.
Went back to the truck and grabbed the Manticore for a walk about. i've hunted the heck out of this spot with the nox 800 and what I discovered was that the Manticore for the most part works the same as the 800 but...with the advanced screen. Pulled a few big 50 cal musket balls and a few other non ferrous junk on an extensive walk about without any drama.
Went back to the truck for beer and grabbed the Deus 2 to finish off the day digging in some iron infested areas near where the old camp sites are.
Any solid non ferrous targets here are so sparse that any time you get a solid beep its like a revelation of sorts. So when I got a solid 63 on the deus 2 I expected another musket ball but to my surprise a solid round gold colored disk makes it to the light of day. My first thought was I got a 1$ gold coin...but after my eyes focused I could see some engravings on it so then i was just as happy to see that I had dug Love token made from a gold coin! And that is what I thought until this morning when I finally had a chance to clean it enough (one hour tumble with CLR) to look at it with a loop to see that it had a heavy gold plate on it.
So this is what 150 year old bling looks like...it even has serrated edges like a coin would have. In the end it was a beautiful day and I got to hook up with my old friend (the property owner) and chat for a couple hours in a wonderful place. Also a pic of the Deus 2 for you wireless lovers ?

Thanks. Interesting. Shows that soil mineralization can potentially push pure non-ferrous at depth into the ferrous limit regions (depending on the profile) such that ferrous limits will potentially mask keepers.
It doesn't just happen with soil mineralization it happens with with ferrous junk as well. I posted this back in December when I first got my Manticore. My second post from the top comparing a gold ring in close proximity to a bottle cap. Note that both the bottle cap and the gold ring are pushed up ward in the photo.

I hunt modern parks mostly when not hunting relics...they are whats close and convenient. There are no silver coins to speak of in these newer and remodeled parks...but there is silver and gold jewelry. Coins are simple enough to hunt in turf and should not pose much of a challenge once you gain experience and learn your machines. Gold Jewelry is another thing... I dig lots of crap to find gold in park...which is what you will have to do. No way round it.

A question for anyone using the Tony Eisenhower headphones on their D2;
Do they use the bone phone output like the GG Amphibians, or the wired headphone output?
I'm currently using the Gray Ghost Amphibian II's and love them, but because they use the bone phone output you're limited to square audio. Just wondering if the Eisenhower's used the regular wired phone output so you had your choice of PWM or Square? I was thinking it would be nice if the new update for the D2 added PWM to the bone phone output but I think that's probably unlikely.
They are Boners as well. They are very loud. Myself I would rather have the PMW as I like the iron sound better and it took me a bit to get used to them. But the quality is there for sure.
An E mail from Tony when I was enquiring bout headphones for my Deus 2
" I now build two versions of my waterproof headphones:
1. The “Divers” have vent and drain holes which allows water to rapidly drain from the cups.
They are specifically designed for scuba, snorkeling or free diving.
2. The “Waders” are identical to the “Divers” except that I omit the vent and drain holes. This essentially eliminates any wind noise. They can still be used under water, it just takes longer for them to drain. Perfect for dry land, wading or use in the rain.
They are designed to work in the “Bone Phone” mode on the Deus II so they can be very loud. you may have to reduce the volume. The custom built 6-pin plug exceeds IP68 waterproof standards. The connector is straight so the cable can be easily routed away from your grip.

The 8 inch coil is gonna be a must have for me...I seen that $500 price as well and I hope thats not real.. Maybe thats why they are chipping the coils now... so they can gouge us. I've spent some serious money on Minelabs over the years but a guy can only take so much..

I just buy them all like an idiot. They all are a pleasure to swing and it is kinda fun to work over an area then go back to the truck and pull out another detector and do it all over again...detector junkie thats me ?

Nice... I'd like to try titanium but have three ss scoops with CF shafts one I don't use any more. I really like my Starve the best as it's light for a ss scoop. I will add one thing if you have habit of placing your scoop over your shoulder while detecting the pointy edges of the Raptor grip can dig into your shoulder which is annoying. Also the bolts want to rust on the one that I have. I prefer this instead. They can be hard to find. Happy B- Day!

It was just a bad beach for conditions. Little waves, a slough, bad tides and not a good wind so ... better luck next time.
Do you prefer little coil high gain or big coil and less sensitivity? I guess there are not that many Manticore choices yet.
I don’t hunt salt water beaches nearly as much as you do. I’ll use the big coil for more coverage although I prefer the 11 inch. My experience with the larger coils in not much more depth. If things are boring then I enjoy using my TDI pro with the clean sweep coil. I have never used that 6 inch coil on a salt water beach.

Your reviews should be in a magazine. Very thorough..I read it the other day on the other forum. You mentioned you thought it was deeper than the CTX. I also read in an old post where you said you would never get rid of your CTX. I don't know if you still have a CTX but I do and have considered selling it but but I'm still on the fence right now.

For some reason I’m really finding lots of nickles? These are areas I’ve hit with the 800 pretty hard.
It does have great recovery speed, and seems to pick up small targets deeper than the Nox.
Yes it loves nickels and smacks them easily and deeper then the Nox for sure. A lot of the coins I’m finding are on edge and easily detected. The machines frequencies seem to be tuned for coins more so then the Nox 800 was? I’d like to see how it compares to the 900 Nox and if someone who has both will prefer the 900 over the M Core? I just sold one of my 800’s today. I have one more to sell...then may get the 900 just to have...with the coil assortment I have for the 800’s? Or just get rid of all of it. Right now it’s hard to put the M Core down and we are handicapped without the smaller coil. The machine will be a real sniper with that small coil. Minelab hurry up please...

Well Mitchell after looking at your finds I think it would be best to switch back to the large coil with the sensitivity adjusted as needed. ?

I was on the beach one day. Guy and his wife are stopped watching me dig a target in the wave wash. He asks me is it legal to do that? I smiled and told him this was the United States of America not Russia. He looked at me and walked on. It goes to show you how people are getting trained that everything is illegal as they take our rights away one after the other.
There is one park that I have been confronted in twice by the city employees who work there and I've only been there twice! The first time the guy drives out in his truck onto the grass and tells me I'm not allowed to dig. I tell him I'm not hurting anything and you just left 2" ruts 50 feet long in the field to tell me this? I did not leave he was not happy and that was the end of that. Went back one more time and different guy with leaf blower tries to tell me the same thing...Says he could get fired for not telling me and he has a family to support lol. Well you did your job then I tell him. He did mention that guys with shovels have made a mess. Shovels are a bad look in public park. It will get us all banned.
Once had another city worker pull up at a different park and was watching me dig a target. When I got done I walked up to him and told him I was being respectful and not making mess. He said I know I was watching you. Said he has a detector too and likes to detect. We had a good conversation exchanged some info on good locations to hunt and everything was cool. These guys don't like seeing shovels in their parks they have to take care of. I haven't had any Karens yet lol
