Will I eventually be able to hear the difference between can tops (pull tabs), and something of value? Like gold?

Gold ring often = pull tabs on central Florida beaches where I hunt. I hit 12 possible gold “13” signals in a row. The fifteenth I almost passed up, being tired. Dug it anyway and it was an approx 200+ year old carved design 14kt ring.

Note: this is at my beach, other areas and things will vary.Your soil and EMI may make the vdi number diff. Figure your number for pull tabs. I have found any nonferrous metal formed into a ring and the NOX screams ring; pull tab, rivet, esp stainless steel washers or fishing gear.

take a nickel, dime, penny and pull tab with you each trip to test. Try it in wet and dry sand. Flat and on edge (sweep direction of an on-edge coin varies with sweep direction).

turn your phone off or at least on airplane in a back pocket as far from coil as possible.

move slow, overlap swings. If you find something you like, make tight spirals around it. You may find another or several similar density near. The ocean sorts into ‘lines’ and circular ‘coin holes’. Find a few older coins along the surf, look back once in a while and see if your filled holes kind of ‘line up’.

keep doing what you are doing. We all did.

it will begin to get very familiar.

    all the best.

I guess that is a possibility.  They could have arrived in one of those two shipments to the U.S., if customs is giving them the once over.  But I'm not sure I buy that explanation.  It could explain the trickle of Manticores showing up if customs is inspecting them one at a time and releasing them one at a time.  We'll see and I'll keep checking for more Minelab detector shipments.

How are you able to see what is arriving? Thx

  3. You are right, at Turtle Trail at the access, they have added sand up to the height of the old dune and out about 20+ feet. All that old productive area covered. At Seagrape within a week there was a huge cut about 5 feet high at the shore break. The access stairs that were just rebuilt were covered in sand about 6 feet deep.

It will be a while before and upper beach will be close to producing old items. Both pics are Seagrapes a month ago. The stakes show where the new buried access stairs turn towards the beach. the large cut makes it almost impossible for anyone except youth to get to the waters edge. And it was all from inshore ‘sand mines’.

This project started south of Sebastian inlet and continued all the way to Tracking station at Vero Beach.

  4. I have about the same number of years (and a lot of hard miles) and can relate. I agree with everything you have said and followed the same steps as you leading me to the S-rod for the 11” as well. I also can recommend trying the counter weight on the straight rod and for me it was slowing down the swing change in direction that made it all come together.

Steve has created one of the best swinging detector rods for different coils and can accommodate any style.  Using “the big coil on my straight shaft with the counter weight.” Is a fantastic idea and one I had not thought of until now.

    Cheers

  5. Update: As of today,Amazon still has a $10 off coupon (check the box) and crazy delivery today for Prime.

Thanks for reporting on these, I had purchased a pair of the PAAW Wavesound 3 noise cancelling headphones and they have worked great for 3 years but had developed a habit of getting stuck in pair mode until I drained the battery. So I was looking for a replacement. They also had a weak point of have 5 buttons on the flad end of the ear cup exposed to salt air and sometimes rain. I found a short audio cord on Amazon, ran it to the WM08 module velcroed to the headphones. Hated fighting a long cord. I used the WM08 because the PAAW phones were getting finicky in pairing to the NOX.

Anyway these are on my list next to buy and at a great price. Can’t go without active noise canceling to block the sound of crashing waves and let me focus on the tones; just my 2 zincolns.

    Best regards.

  6. Great discussion, I plan to keep using a modified B2 setting (that I have been using in my beach and sand) and place the default B1 into the user bin as a checker. With the difficulty in quickly recovering targets at the surf line I don’t mind a reduced power mode.

Course nothing beats a good target under the coil. There has been so much sand dumped over my 30 mile beach range it will take a multi day noreaster or tropical storm in the summer to get down where the old stuff I hunt lives. Still get a nice new drop surprise from time to time. The ocean is an ornery giver and a taker.

So in the mean time, I test settings and condition my old self for ‘the day’.

    Thanks to both of you

No.  Minelab has already stated the individually selectable single frequencies (or their range ratios, i.e., the Marketing term "5Fx8", which Minelab treats in its literature as a "technology" distict from "Multi-IQ") have no direct link to the base frequencies used in Multi IQ.  Take 4 khz, it was introduced 2 years after the release of the Equinox.  That update that introduced it did not appreciably change Multi IQ mode behavior.  Though you could argue it was in Multi-IQ all along,, who knows..  Minelabs not saying.  At the end of the day, the actual base frequencies and number of discrete frequencies that comprise any Simultaneous Multifrequency Frequency implementation matters little to the end user if the manufacturer is not willing to be explicit about it and as long as the mode behaves generally as described (Park 1/Field 1 favoring high conductors, larger targets>implying low frequency weighting; Park 2/Field 2 favoring mid conductors, smaller targets>implying high frequency weighting) and has good signal processing algorithms.

Is Beach 1 & 2 then a different range or does the salt ‘balance’ make the only difference? Thanks

Congratulations! I don’t run the Nokta but wanted to congratulate you. We always will remember those ‘firsts’ of each type found. One thing I wish I had started earlier was to document the best finds as well all the others. All the best in your journey. Happy Hunting

  9. Short answer: Yes I can tell the difference often.

    Long answer below.

I have hearing loss, 30 years of screaming diesel engines, pumps and sirens. The minelab earphones allowed so much ambient sound in, mainly surf crashing, that I discovered a LL BT aftermarket headphone with good insulation, comfortable ear cups and active noise cancelling. I didn’t think the noise canceling feature was worth using but now won’t wear them without it on.

I started with the headphones BT to the 800. If a varied my swing rate, I definitely could tell it lagged. But the aftermarket phones started to be difficult to commect and sometimes dropped out and I had to re pair them. Since I did not want to go back to the Minelab phones, I plugged the aftermarket headphones in. After fighting with the audio cable and trying every location, I used the wm08 clipped to my shirt. It would still get pulled and the audio cable would disconnect itself.

Then I read about Dan (MN)s mod and that was the ticket. Once in a while if I move my head to far my block head blocks the signal for a second, but that is rare. The WM08 is plenty fast for me.

  10. East central Florida: most of the 30 miles in my AO the auto GB=0

After erosion last week hit one city block size spot of “black” sand that auto GB in the 40s up by the dune but wondered if wifi emf could cause a higher GB. (Some residents figured out if they move their wifi modem towards the beach, the despicable treasure hunters keep away.)

Normally one or two spots are in the negative numbers down to -9 but this changes quickly as I move around.

I NC and auto GB about every 20 minutes or if the sand changes drastically or if I get an increase in EMF.

  11. I had this and was helped by wearing good thick sole shoes or sandals inside and out. No going barefoot indoors or out unless on the beach. Then using a roller to stretch the plantar fascia at first 3 times every day for a month. Once cured I can now feel it getting tight and use the roller and sometimes ice. Some people freeze a water bottle and roll on it. If you stand and do this you can put varying amounts of pressure on the foot being rolled. Prevention is key if possible.

There are probably as many cures as people that suffer. Hope you feel better.
