Sadly Pm Coils is out of the game, for a while they made a Scarab 18 x 14, Nuggeteer 18 x 6 in mono and AI, 12 x 4 mono and AI. There was also an 18 Tarantula, it's in the photo, two coils shown with funny shape. Jimmy's T-foot as an 18 x 5.5 duel field would be the ideal beach coil. Don't know how many Razorback Beach Hog's were made, a real beach sweeper. Only rarely spot Nuggeteer coils on the local Australian classifieds, very reasonably priced compared to the 'bigfoot' coils I sometimes see advertised in the USA. Paid $60 for the 12 x 4 AI and $175 delivered, for the 18 x 6 mono. (Australian dollar roughly US 70 cents.) I'm interested in how the big 18 x 6 mono balances on either the Pro or SL, it was classed as a 'patch finder' coil.
These coils seem well put together, quality feel and solid. The coil cable is quality, also durable and the coil cover fits well. The Nuggeteer GPX coils already used Litz wire, so I'm looking forward to testing that 18 x 6. A bit wider than the genuine 'bigfoot' but the same length so on a pulse machine depth should be interesting.

All those coils shown are field test prototypes using Bill Hayes shells. The Tarantula coil was a big red/orange colored 18" round in both mono and dual loop types. Those guys did a heap of experimentation with various designs incl the spiral mono, concentric, stacked-cone mono and co-planar ideas years before anyone else, from a garage in Mt Gambier. Their AI designs are killer on the salt lakes in SA/WA and the Scarab AI punched deeper than any Coiltek AI I ever owned & used on my 2000 or 4500. The 12x4 AI is incredibly sensitive to tiny gold on a 5000 too.

Given what was said to dealers at the conference last year regarding this new PI, they expect an even more insane price tag to be accepted because the performance of the prototypes has been outstanding. Expect a 'rush' akin to the release of the SD2000 they reckon. Maybe they'll see sense and rely on volume of sales and not even higher profit margins???....not holding my breath. MT, the only 'true' verification will be in May. Until then, we'll hear more of the same well-sourced rumors and nothing more....

Ergo at 4.5 lbs or less should be way better than the 5.6 lb SDC and in the U.S. price should be better but given FT pricing in Oz you may be out of luck as regards price down under.
I very much fear you are correct....

And ergonomics!
Yes! Something that ML seem to have forgotten about.....seems that the Impulse AU will only be a competitor to the SDC2300....similar projected price too, which is a pity 😒

Now all us goldfield 'nuts' will be eagerly awaiting the Gold prospecting version of this..... please....anything to give Minelab a run for its money and bring some sanity to pricing 😁

So Jim is the coil out for sale now to the public ?????? Mike C...
It should be listed on the Whites coil page if its for general sale......sadly it is not 😒 https://www.whiteselectronics.com/product-category/coils/

I have issues only with my Nimh rechargeable pack. I have to be choosy with the AA cells...some become dodgy over time and voltage drops. If its with Alkaline AA's, then Im guessing its an internal component issue...needs to go back to Whites...

We have several dealers on this site. Not one has mentioned hearing what you posted. Do you have a link to a written statement showing the above remarks?
It would mean 'Death of a Thousand cuts' for a Minelab dealer to put that in writing anywhere.....its major no-no on a biblical scale. Apparently a small group of Oz dealers 'surrounded' an un-named ML exec at the dealers conference and asked if the 7000 was to be replaced 'soon'... a 'yes' was offered, along with an undisclosed timeline. The 7000 is overdue to be replaced and sales of the 7000 have declined as practically everyone who could possibly afford such a ridiculous price now has one. The exec said that the price for the new unit will be even more ridiculous but that it has truly amazing capabilities based on current testing of the prototypes. Ive heard this 'rumor' via 2 of those Oz dealers now...same story so there's some truth to it.

Had a friend raise an interesting theory; why didn't ML come up with x-type coils for the 7000 and instead is letting NuggetFinder come up with them? They thought it pretty much confirmed that it means ML is readying a new version/upgraded GPZ-type machine, lighter weight, better ergonomics, up-to-date electronics etc.
There certainly is no reason to think this weightlifters detector will remain the way it is when, as Steve and others have been saying, there are lighter, more compact, real world usable detectors out there now (QED for one).
Thoughts?
100% correct FM... the prototype new version Z machine was mentioned to several dealers at the last Minelab dealers conference earlier this year. Expect to see it written on the next investors statement in 2020. If the hype is only 50% correct, we will see a mad rush similar to the SD2000 days.

The main requirement for an extension lead is quality enameled cable. It has to be super flexible with quality enameling. Flexing is something that most PI detectors hate. Keep the solder contacts very short (less flexing again) and stiffen the last 6" of cable going into the plug. Part of what ML stated is correct. If you use the ext cable with a high inductance/high resistance coil, the totals will lose you performance. I cant comment on a GPZ but If you have a GPX coil with inductance below 300uH and resistance below 1 ohm, you can run an ext cable with zero loss of performance. You're gonna have fun with removing the enamel off the wire effectively....use a mixture of heat, acetone and sandpaper.

Couldn't agree more Steve.....I also owned a Gold Monster, owned it for a couple weeks. Found gold with it but hated it immensely. All the annoying noises it makes drove me mad. The 24K is far superior machine in ergonomics and 'ear appeal' lol

Darn it, my MXT with 6x4DD and 5.3 Eclipse mono is going back into the boot. Too easy to forget that VLF machines, although somewhat difficult to manage in hot ground; have some interesting capabilities.. karelian
The MXT with 5.3CC is a killer in mild ground, had some success around Castlemaine with that combo 👌

I've heard some doubts as to the veracity of me finding over 6,000 bits of gold with high frequency VLF detectors in the past few years, so I put up a slideshow on the channel too:

One of my favorite places to test new detectors is at the Welcome Stranger site....one of the most hard-hit places in the world. Tens of thousands of detectors have been over this site in the past 40 years,. It should be goldless, but today I proved it isn't.

so true Reg. Big Egos, small brains.

Nice pics.....think the reminiscence of Moliagul has given me a place to go hunting on the weekend now. I need to get away from 'home' goldfields and try a few old spots in the Triangle (y)

No worries, I dont care, but if you're wanting to gather general public viewers they wont know the 24k was just released and will assume it is old footage from 2013 😃
Yes, you're quite right...it was one of my concerns also. Hence I tell viewers in the video description to ignore the date stamp lol

Wow, you live in a place with lots of really shallow near surface gold, what a good time that'd be snagging all those bits. Well done.
Not blowing my own horn but this area, within 9km of home has netted me over 6,000 bits of gold since 2014 and probably another 1,000 back in the 'good old days'. All off old digging heaps....

He really needs to fix the date stamp on his camera. Other than that decent first effort.
Yeah I know, the damned thing is stuck there and cant be turned off.....huge annoyance. But I love my cap cam and it works so easy with a click of a button. 😊

Funny how a lotta people are interested in concentric coils now apparently.... another manufacturer made a few prototype 18" ones back in 2013, it flogged the NF superlite mono and 18 Commander mono (I saw it in action doing just that) and no-one was particularly interested. They wanted 10 pre-orders to make up the shells and couldn't get any more than 4 on the books. Go figure....

Awesome, thank you Jim 😊

I spoke with Reg many times about making changes to my TDI-SL
We also exchanged many emails, I do still have them. He describes the changes and purpose and also included images of the circuit board and locations.
Anyone interested can shoot me an email and I will forward.
I can also copy them and post them here but would like to know if Reg is OK with it first.

I sent you an email Gil, thanks ☺️
New Minelab Pi Announcement Date 2020
in Minelab Metal Detectors
Posted
The GPZ IS an evolution of a Pulse Induction detector, just with extra bells and whistles. Just coz Minelab prefer to use another acronym, (ZVT) don't mean it aint a PI.
