  1. Smaller coils are coming, very soon now. As is the new Simplex update. Think there was some setback to to the Covid-19 which is putting a strain on everybody and business.....

Those smaller coils will help drive sales as it seems everyone on this side of the pond wants some.

She did pop in at Tom D's forum today.

    ==================================

Hello all... Sorry I have not been posting lately.

Now, to answer a few questions / comments:

Did we get scared off? I can only smile at this especially after the release and the success of the Simplex+ worlwide. Maybe the opposite holds true?

The kids detector is almost ready for the final testing stage yet I do not know whether we will delay the testing due to many of our testers being in countries with lock downs. In addition, we also have kids testers and we cannot put any kid at risk at this stage unless thye have their own private garden to use the detector.

We have been working on an update for the Simplex+ which is almost ready to be released... I will also announce it here on this forum.

SMF - still in the works yet do not have an exact date for it.

COVID-19 - The COVID-19 situation has affected Turkey just like most other countries in the world.
Yet, we are working and still shipping product. We realize that the whole world is going through tough times including here but we are also trying our best to keep the business going and support our dealers, customers etc so the smaller businesses can survive and we avoid long lasting recessions.

We are now all in this equally. The Corona virus, unfortunately, does not discriminate like our metal detectors. We are all equal – regardless of our country and race. It is now time to unite – not physically - but mentally and responsibly and do the right thing. For ourselves, for our loved ones and for the humanity.

I thank those who were concerned and wondered if I were OK (some also emailed me) ... business and money aside, I believe this is what the humanity had been lacking on - being simple human beings and caring about each other. This whole crisis, I hope, will shake the humanity up in a good way and humans will remember what is more important in life and will start appreciating that one breath we can take into our lungs unlike thousands and thousands around the world right now who cannot. It is a pity, that the price we are paying is too high....

Please all stay safe and healthy!

  2. Some have asked if I make them for sale. Sorry to say, cost wise for parts is expensive here in Canada when shipping, Customs fees from the supplier is factored in. Then add labor. For what they would have to sell for that people would pay. There's really no profit. Then shipping from Canada is also expensive.   You can make one yourself.  Pin out is the same for the Kruzer, Anfibio and Simplex.

  3. Handle angle was designed so your wrist is in a natural position with out having to add stress from needing upward or downward wrist pressure to keep the detector in a balanced position. And many won't notice how good the handle is unless they currently have a bad wrist. When a smaller coil is attached to the Simplex, should balance about perfect.............

The menu dwell time could be a second longer. By the time you decide on the changes you want to make, it returns to the main screen.

  4. Many know I like to tinker with metal detectors and customize them to my personal tastes......So that is what I did to my Simplex. Since it is not the version with the wireless headphones and need to use the supplied wired headphone adapter, a mod was made. The supplied wired headphone adapter is too short, the wire kind of whimpy. Also, did not place the headphone wires in a position that wasn't cumbersome. A much longer adapter was made up, so the headphones can be plugged in by the arm cuff. Now the headphone wire will run up the side of the body. Out of the way. Less chance of snag ups or pulling your headphones off the top off your head when you lay the detector down. Not pictured, when the headphones are plugged in, the wires is secured with a cable tie thru the arm cuff strap slots. I can also go wireless using an aftermarket wireless headphone. I can plug in the transmitter into the adapter jack and place the transmitter in the convenient holder under the armcuff. Very nice set-up. As you can now water hunt, a bit deeper. Pictures below.

The Simplex+ battery is Lithium Polymer (LiPo) not Lithium Ion, similar but not the same. The battery is visible in the tear down photos.

It looks like only four screws holding the control box together unlike the Equinox, which is sealed. However, it appears the access to those screws is under the face plate/display so I guess it will boil down to how easy it is to pry that off without doing damage.

I did tear down my Simplex. The faceplate  hiding the crews is a very thick decal, You do need to be careful prying it off. Separating the case halves without proper tools and not starting at the right place can damage the plastic case edges. It's not difficult otherwise to replace a battery. If the Simplex is still under warranty and has battery issues, let the service center do the job. If out of warranty, the choice is yours to make an attempt and possibly damage the circuit board or again have the Service Center do it. Added note, there is nothing a consumer can adjust on the circuit boards to increase performance, it is all done by computer processor software. So please, to  those who think this is a tinkerable detector, think again. Stay out of the internals....this is not a Tesoro.

  6. You really want silicone grease made specifically for under water camera housings. Sold by specialty camera shops and scuba dive shops. And you want to use just a very thin film. https://www.ikelite.com/products/silicone-lubricant-set-of-4

  7. Tesoros 3 3/4 turn 100k pots where custom bulk made. That's why no one has them in stock. Will be very hard to even find. You can find other values of them. Easier to get a 10 turn. Plenty of room in the Tejon case as its larger than the umax cases. If you go with a  10 turn pot, you may find that actual usable range for GB is only a few turns. And the 3 3/4 turns is plenty good enough for fine adjustment.

In some older Tesoros they had 100K GB trimpots on the circuit board for adjusting GB, as they were fixed GB units. It would be a mistake to replace it with an external GB 100k control. As actual GB usable range was from 20-40K. Best to use a 50K. See Tesoro used 100k trimpots as that is what they had on hand and were set at around 24-28K to handle most ground conditions.

If replacing a current external control, replace it with the same value that is printed on it.

Pictured are 10 turn pots I used to be able to buy off ebay from China, they take up no more room than a standard 1 turn pot. I would use them on my PI's.

  8. Something is in the works at Garrett, heard from a reliable source. No confirmation or denial from Garrett....read what  you will into that.

Maybe they are waiting for the Nokta/Makro, Minelab, XP, storm to settle.

Would be interesting to see what Garrett would come up with.

The last, more modern  Garrett I used was back in 2006, a Gti 2500.

  9. Why did they remove the bottom of the pots? Why didn't they just use sealed waterproof pots.

To make sure any water ingress does not soak the circuit board. Get some soldering sponge. It expands when it gets wet soaking up any water.. You want to place the sponge(s) in the box at the lowest level of detecting angle. This is where the water will travel to due to gravity.

There is a trick getting the top and bottom of the case together easily.  Don't put any silicone grease onto the o-ring until you set it in place.
