  1. Thanks Steve great thread! I learn something new every time I come to this forum, this old dog can learn a new trick after all!
  2. Thanks Steve, nice thread was glad to see how well he has done at the beach, hoping my trips are as productive. Wished he would have included which coils he was using. if he is still a member maybe I can ask him. Saw a posting somewhere with a interview with you. You stated you were writing a book, how is or how did that go? any treasure hunting books? how do you like the new toy? AQ? Thanks for all the help, stay safe and healthy.
  3. Good Morning Treasure Detectives, My wife was kind enough to purchase for me a New Open Box GPX 4500, for putting up with her for 29 years. Not exactly her version of this story. June 29 will be 29 years, where did the time go. Back to subject, it came with the mono and double d coils, but need advise on what coil that is waterproof would be good for saltwater beach. Thinking 15" or about similar size. I have used my Simi Eliptical Mono Commander on my TDI and got great results in wet sand area. but did not put under water, because its only water resistant not proof. I would like to be able to use in wading depth. Yes I know expensive machine for being around water. I have waterproofed my TDI SL and will waterproof the GPX as well. need the extra depth. Didn't know they would be releasing the AQ so soon. would have told wife to wait. I thought the AQ was a year down the road. Maybe on our 30th anniversary. Right now have to use what I have. Moderate mineralization beach looking for jewelry size targets. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Happy Hunting and Stay Safe and Healthy to all! Lonnie
  4. Thank You Steve and Jim. Any help is always appreciated, hope I can return the favor! Stay Safe, Healthy, and Happy Hunting!
  5. In a previous post few years ago, I read where a forum member I think it was REG was stating he had given Whites the information on how to do several modifications to improve performance. I think this was about Dec. 11, 2016 1. build battery pack using Panasonic 3400mah. 2. modify filters to allow for faster swing speed. (reduce value of c20 and c21 from 0.47uf to 0.22uf). and a few other changes. After that said, the TDI SL I just purchased shows it is a 2015 model. Am I correct in thinking these mods. were not done at factory? I am going to open up my unit and check c20 and c21. Also I purchased a Minelab Commander 15"x12" mono coil to try on my TDI SL. for Saltwater beach moderate mineralization. Will this improve performance better than stock coils or should I look at better options for the coil choice. I was hoping to also use for relic hunting at some old camp sites. After speaking with Jim, I have ordered the Panasonic 3400mah batteries to build my upgrade pack, and if need be will try to mod myself. I am new to this forum, have been hunting since 1994 or 1995. got away from detecting for a while then came back to my senses, forgot the motto you work to live not live to work lol. I have learned more from reading the forums that I have ever learned by my mistakes. I hope I can contribute something to this forum and pay forward for all of the ones that have helped me!
