  1. I went out for a few hour detect today and about half an hour in I got the little one where someone had scraped the ground and then walked away, but it came through nice and clear with the 7000. I got the bigger one as I was heading back to the vehicle. It was just the slightest change in the threshold and I thought it was ground noise, but once I was down about 4" it was giving off that lovely electronic warbly signal I like.  It was down 12½" through hard packed gravel and then the last couple of inches was clay.  It took me about 15 min to recover it.   It SG`s at 2.63 grams.   My best piece in quite a while :biggrin:DSCF5083..jpg

As far as the SDC is concerned.  I believe a coil much bigger than the 8" will not be able to handle the short pulse delay that allows the SDC to find things that a GPX equipped with Sadie are unable to see.  If a larger coil came available for the SDC I think it would lose it's edge and then find itself in the GPX range and then what would be the point of that?

A very good post Luke, and I believe you are right about a bigger coil for the 2300. I think because of the timings of the 2300 it would be totally pointless slapping a 18" coil on it.    For me, I`m thinking, maybe a 12x7 would be the ideal coil for the 2300. Lose a little bit of sensitivity on the small stuff and gain a little bit on the bigger deeper stuff, but after that, if you went bigger on the 2300 you`d be wasting your time.

  3. Jeez Louise.   I`ve got an idea just crazy enough to work.   Anybody who doesn`t want the new coil shouldn`t buy it.
I only started this thread because I thought SOME members of this forum might be interested to know the new coil will be availble soon.
Anybody who doesn`t want it shouldn`t buy the damn thing.
And I still want one

Phoenix, While it would be nice to have other coils available for the SDC, I am just surprised that there has been no discussion about the obvious difficulties associated with replacing the 2300s stock coil, which is electrically hard wired to the unit, as well as being mechanically difficult to remove. Not to mention doing so would void the warranty. Also, I haven’t seen any mention of what company or individual(s) is developing these coils. Did I miss a post about this somewhere?

    Cheers

Lunk be assured, I saw the coil on the detector. I was told how this one was fitted was not the way the final release would be fitted.   I have no doubt what so ever that if anything had to be cut to fit the after market coil it will cancel the warranty but that`s no great drama for me anyway because my detector is 3 months out of warranty now. And sorry mate but if the people building this coil don`t want to come on here and talk about it, it`s not my part be naming them. I asked for permission to mention this coil on the forum and was told that was OK as long as I said it was a prototype.   Anyway, I still want one of these coils when they come out.  cheers Dave

Oh goody....a 10x5 coil. Sweet. Where do I stand in line? Just need a smaller coil for the Zed now.

    JW

hey JW.   I don`t think I need a smaller coil than the 14" for the 7000. I got all these pieces with the 14" coil. But the 2300 with greater ground coverage plus centre mount. I gotta have that coil :smile::smile: cheers Dave

  6. I saw the prototype of the first coil that will be released for the 2300.  10x5"  The tester really likes it and apparently it is dynamite on the jagged bits.   And the main  thing I wanted in these new coils, it is centre mount .  I will probably start using my 2300 a bit more

  7. The lighting is built in mate.   The camera in the link I posted has 8 LED`s.  I realize now, after I posted that first picture, there was a heap of sunlight streaming in through orange blinds and the whole room was orange when I took that first photo. That second photo and this one were taken in "natural" light.

I can see I will have to get one to make my tiny bits look monstrous. I am talking gold here . Trouble is, if & when when I do find a monster piece you buggers wont believe me.

Don`t worry JW, I`ll believe you.  Here is a shot of a terrific 12 ouncer I got a few years ago

  9. A few months ago I put up a thread about this camera where I said to use it you needed a Windows 7 or earlier operating system and it had to be 32 bit.                  It turns out , unsurprisingly,  I was wrong.              A computer guy pointed out to me yesterday that I was accessing it wrong on newer operating systems. Now that I know how to access it, this same cheap made in China camera works on every computer I own. I took this photo this morning on my windows8 64bit laptop.    You are better off getting a lower power camera like this one in the link.  If you get a 500 or 1000 power camera they are just too damn hard to focus. cheers Dave

The GPZ has been out for a long time but is this problem starting to show up with the ones made say in the last two years ?

Chuck something along those lines occurred to me.   I don`t detect all day because this is my hobby, not my job, but I got mine day one and it has been used maybe 320 days a year since it was released, and I`m guessing mine would be at the upper end of use. It certainly looks like it has been used a lot. I don`t set out to mistreat it but I don`t wrap it up in cotton wool either.  I wonder if what has happened to mine is a sign of things to come for older 7000`s.                                              Anyway mine is in the shop now,  and I hope I get it back soon.

Wow.  Now you have me worried.  Every once in a while I will be fiddling back and forth with my settings a lot and the sound will go out on mine.   I will then have to do a power restart.  Not too often thankfully. Crossing my fingers mine doesn't get worse.

Andy I don`t think you have anything to worry about.  Mine would lose sound sometimes when I changed "ground type" but I always got sound back when I restarted the detector. Apparently what has happened to mine this time is a completely separate issue. Dave

  12. I was one minute into the day when the 7000 lost sound to the WM12`s.  This has happened before but restarting the detector always fixed it, but this time the detector wont power off either.  The only way I can turn it off is to unplug the battery.  Tried everything, turned off the GPS, plugged in 2 sets of headphones, did a full detector reset- Still no sound and wont power off.  I phoned Minelab, they seem to know what`s wrong with it and only want the back end of the detector back, not the coil or shafts or battery
Thank goodness there is still 5 months of warranty on my detector.letter - Copy - Copy.jpg

The popups and warnings you are getting are about that site for some reason. The only way to avoid stuff like this, or getting screwed by Photobucket, is to load images directly to the forum.

Yeh I`ve always used other site photo hosting because that was the only way I knew to do it. I didn`t realize it was so easy to put them straight on this forum. I`ve gone back and edited the first photo :rolleyes:birdshot2.jpg

yeh mate one of the times I looked at this thread there was a number where the picture was supposed to be and when I clicked on the number it took me to the picture, but since then, for me at least, the picture is back. cheers

  15. Apparently these coils have been in the works for a few years now and I was told a year or so ago that they would not be released until they got the coils down pat and working perfectly. My main dislike with the 2300 is that damn rear pivot mount, but to be fair I knew I wouldn`t like it before I bought the detector.   If these upcoming coils are a centre mount I will definitely be getting one. I think a really good size for a coil for the 2300 would be maybe a 12x8 eliptical

  16. This is generally the size size of the stuff I get now.  I occasionally get maybe a 2 grammer but it`s quite a while since I got anything bigger.  I have no doubt the 7000 is a deep punching detector, some of these small pieces it amazed me how deep I got them, but it constantly mystifies me why the bigger stuff just doesn`t seem to be there.   Anyway I am pleased when I come home with a rattle in the jar.   This lot goes 3 grams    cheers Dave
