  1. More STELLAR finds like the 21k ! Seems very rare around here that on the minus tides , there are barely any targets. It's weird. Most of my finds are from the towel line on down to the base and maybe 10' beyond.  That's it. I second guess myself constantly on machines. I went out last night and got 1 gold. Then I think: why do I need another machine , this one works just fine ? But still , it's in the back of my mind. What if I had a different machine ? What could I be missing ?

I live in Southern California and we have many beaches where you can detect all night long.  If you have never done a night hunt I highly recommend them.  Now is a good time to go out because the moon is nearly full.  Most of my hunt last night I turned off my light and just enjoyed the clear skies, stars, planets and moon.  The comet is long gone when I get out at midnight but the moon is directly above.  I watched it set several hours later.

One of the reasons I went out was because I read a surf report that said waves had come from a direction that makes one of my beaches 'come alive' with targets if they are big enough.  I went out before dark and I didn't see any of these 5 ft waves so I was skeptical.  When I got to my area there was a cut.  Not a big one but bigger than any in a long time.  So on a relative scale it was big.

I worked my way along it and immediately started finding shallow quarters.  Shallow is one or two scoops with an 8" basket scoop.  It was fun.  I followed the cut quickly just in case someone else came out (they did) and then I doubled back later in the session.  There were lots of targets.  I dug over 150 by my actual count.  There were 34 quarters, 30 dimes, 20 nickels and 40 pennies.  I also found some micro jewelry (lets me know I'm not always going too fast) and a couple of cheap rings.  That represents well over 500 digs with my pull it towards me scoop.  I couldn't work a beach like this with a shovel scoop.

I couldn't find ringsville last night but I was searching the patch diligently for it.  IMG_8752.thumb.JPG.13badec4c057330fb97d44a2d2b8fb6c.JPGIMG_8754.thumb.JPG.e1911fc12f03a95a5d01b7a7af20a506.JPGIMG_8755.thumb.JPG.cae0f09ccadd4e9e7c825023dd252fdb.JPGBetter luck next time.

Nice target volume. I will be in Orange County tonight. You ?

13 Diamond rings and 27 gold rings. No platinum yet for the equinox800. I feel I’m a contributor to the competition with my YouTube channel. I didn’t think teaching where I find the gold would put such a lull in finding but it has. Lot of competition for sure. Check out my channel on YT “Metal  Detecting Channel”

1st off Derek , your totally new to detecting and you've made some great finds. It ain't easy trying to make a living doing YT channels. And you are just starting to see what happens when you broadcast it all over. What's happening Derek is that the real pro's are moving in and are gonna wipe out your area. Sure you will still find a few here and there. Hide your locations or start moving around to different beaches. Definitely don't brag to people what you find while on the beach. When you started literally begging for $ and were making some finds ,  I had "Manifested" that this isn't going to last long. You are now seeing some of my manifestation in action. Keep up the videos , I hope it works out for you ! Cause it's a double edged sword...

Thanks Kobling, Of course the real goal is to find a gold chain but now that seems more doable. I had the other basket rake with me but after 3 hours I had had enough manual labor for the day and just detected.

Been thinking of the screen one. You can adjust the depth I think by the handle attachment. Might go deeper. That's where it's going to be harder to pull.

  5. Well Steve , I can give you a personal rundown on that scoop as I have had 2 ( make that 3) of them.

The GOOD : price , can't beat it. Lightweight and small as I can twirl it like a high school cheerleader.  Great for dry , medium wet /damp soft sand.

The BAD : size , I also prefer it a little bigger/wider= less scoops to retrieve your target. Durability is suspect ; I'm rough on my scoops. Bought 2 (1 for backup). The factory aluminum handle will buckle. So I put a carbon fiber shaft on it. Make sure to constantly check the u-bolts are tight and secure. Mine loosened up , eventually enlarging the holes that secure the bolts to the scoop. This in turn caused more pressure on the bracket itself. Then the thin SS started to tear apart on the backside. This was done in hardpack , almost concrete like wet sand. Again I'm hardcore on my scoops , dig fast and don't mess around. This scoop was rendered useless within 5 months.

The UGLY: the return. Because serious detecting only warrants it for 30 days , I had to jump through hoops. They told me to contact the manufacturer Quest rep from China. They gave me the contact info. I never talked to anybody , though I tried. It was all emails , sending pics , etc. On the other side of the world. Then it was back and forth , then finally sent to the wrong address. Which created more problems. This was pre covid. Bottomline is after about 2.5 months I finally get it shipped from SERIOUS.  Which could have been done initially in 2 weeks. The busted 1 went in the trash. I had 2 new scoops which I promptly sold. Never again...

The CONSENSUS : I still actually think it's a good scoop as long as you kinda baby it. Just wasn't large and strong enough for me. Price is right , I guess.... hope you have better luck than me.

  6. My 1st Whites detector was in 1970. I have loved them for many years and had several throughout. I remember getting a Surfmaster from a local dealer in Santa Ana called Pederson's. Great shop and guys there. Paid $450 and it included a beach scoop ! What ever happened to Jimmy Sierra ? All I saw in the 70s and 80s was Jimmy this , Jimmy that. He is the greatest  , this is what he uses , etc. I never had a problem buying any whites product or any warranty. Sad to see them go.

It’s a stainless steel scoop, quite strong. It works. So what’s the problem? I’m a practical guy. If something works, I use it. If not, I get something else.

I did actually order another scoop, but I think I’ll just keep that one to myself. Probably also not up to standards.

I often use no scoop at all.

Ah ha..  ok I looked closer. It's not a bad SS.... guess I figured you for the latest and greatest. Plus with all your VIP connections , these guys would be throwing scoops at you !

  8. Sorry Steve , but for some reason I'm a little shell shocked at your scoop selection. I've owned more scoops than detectors. I just like to try them out. Some good , some bad. But I think you said you hunt the water when at the beach. And why you don't use bigger , stronger SS or aluminum/SS tipped scoop is beyond me. I guess that is your style though , what you like.

On the Ctx, due to scarce visibility underwater, I eliminated the need to look at it, dividing by sound the hot gold spot...

After using the CO profile I happily switched to the FE...

Why to dig something with more ferrous concentration than gold range?....

Multiple tid numbers are the real gun of that machine...

With the Nox You just have a conductivity based number...Even if negative lectures are a bad index...Still remains 90% of things that are all but gold in between..

I thought for a second I was on the other forum with u2 lovebirds. Haha , maybe I will fit in here !

Something a lot of guys disc out is iron and shape. But it does have an advantage that I pickup on that others pass by. Nox users will pass over the junk rings , I get it. But they also disc out cellphones and watches. Understandably these can also be tent stakes.

Sometimes it does get old. But I have also found some nice watches and phones that are worth a little bank.

Why can’t it be trusted? My Equinox practically tells me what’s under the coil. Use 50 tones and learn the machine. Trust your ears instead of having your eyes glued to the screen. I ditched my CTX as soon as I got an Equinox and don’t regret it in the slightest. But there is hope... maybe the next version of Multi-IQ will be more to your liking.

Fabulous ring for sure. I have found a lot of rings over the years, but the type with serious jewels go lacking. For me a plain 14K men’s band is generally what ends up in my pouch.

For me , the 50 tones was too much overload. I did the 2 and sometimes the 5. I thought I was really good with it. My problem was the screen. Because it's there. And designed to be used. Spent way too much time deciding on whether to dig or not based on numbers. Even though they would sound good and not so good , I would dig them. I got gold from all over the screen. Takes way more time and slows me down. I am a time and volume guy. The more targets I dig in a day , chances are I'm going to find something good. Yes , I dig lots of trash , but that's because I still can. For the dirt and older or guys with a more serious disability than mine , they may be limited on time and how many targets they can dig. I think for guys who have been doing it awile , they know what works best for them and much has to do with their style.

Ok we are going to need proof on this...KOB thing..😁

Well that's all we needed...Welcome Mr King Of Bling!

What kind of proof you want ? Like this ? As you know OBN , I don't post many pics. But for the doubters , this was around a month ago. 14k white gold. Over 1 carat in diamonds. 4 very small sapphires. This is a Disney "Cinderella" ring.  Notice the carriage in the side view. I have found cheap Disney rings before. But nothing this nice. Retail online I found them for $1400 - $2k. Posting this cause it's gone now !

  12. Thanks Compass. I still would like to try it out. I get that it goes a few inches deeper , not that big of a deal for me. But the battery life most certainly is. All my hunts are 4+ hours. So , like others have said , you don't bring the AQ out on your daily hunts. Very site and condition specific. But when you looks at what everyone has been saying for a few years now , some of it is not true and was admittedly released early before it was truly ready. That's the bottom line.  Maybe the more "updated" next version will be for me. Idk

  13. Ok guys...I'm the real guy from the other forum who goes by the name of KOB. But here , I will go by King-Of-Bling. Which is what the name stands for and was given to me many moons ago. I have only been looking at this forum for a few weeks now and it appears it's a little more serious on the discussion side regarding hunting and detectors. As some others here may know me from elsewhere , I like to have fun and not always take life so seriously. Will see how it goes.

A little about me : my 1st detector was in 1970. Had to use 2 hands to swing it. Didn't really detect much often until 1980 , where being wiser (and stronger) led me to better finds. I live in So.Cal , though have spent time in Miami and Hawaii. Grew up as a surf rat , always loved the beach. My main go to machine is a PI. Though over the years have owned others. Most recently the Nox , which I sold. I don't have a lot of dirt experience like others do here. But the beach , well.... 1 of my mottos in life has been : You are never to young or old to learn something new. Anyway...Thanks for having me join....King-Of-Bling !
