The recent high surf and good tides moved massive amounts of sand at some of my local beaches this week. On my first hunt the 40mph winds and blowing sand made it challenging to walk, let alone detect. My detector and scoop even acted like sails, catching the wind and twisting me around at times.

On day 2 the winds had calmed down but the first 3 beaches I hunted didn't yield that many targets. However the 4th beach had a fresh 4'-6' cut running for hundreds of yards and below it I started to find plenty of targets in the wet sand. I saw 3 other people with detectors but on this day there were enough targets to go around so social distancing wasn't a problem.

Over the 2 days of detecting I found 50 quarters and a dozen pieces of silver  but surprisingly- no gold. I dug a lot of trash as well since I was using my TDI Beachhunter but most of the targets were shallow so recovery was fast.

It was fun digging so many targets- I haven't had a hunt like that in a while. Even though I was a little disappointed in not finding the gold that I KNOW was there I was pleasantly surprised to find "T&Co" stamped on 1 of the silver rings when I got home- my 2nd Tiffany of the year.

    GL&HH!

It's always fun when it's nonstop digging. A few days ago I got a bunch of clad and junk jewelry. 1 very small gold earring. The odd thing was , I didn't find 1 ring ! Probably a 1st for me when finding all this other jewelry. But that might be because you got them all ! We will see what this storm brings....

It would have to be a big bag 😄

Yep, My wife let's me know every time I bring home stuff from that beach. 🥱 I wanted to try their titanium version but the cost was more than I wanted to spend. Plus the fact that I know titanium is very strong, but I could not stop thinking that the abrasion from beach sand would wear the tip away quicker than 316 stainless steel version.

I know. What's up with that? 😄 Usually I get a lot of them but so far not too many on this beach.

You made a great choice on your scoop. Probably even wiser on the 1 you didn't buy. My guess is you saw my post on the other forum where I talked extensively on it with pics. I'm kinda surprised you were out there for 5 hours. Usually I have a good idea of what's going on in about 20 minutes. Unless your are just wanting exercise and exploring. But sometimes the low tides are a vast wasteland. Better luck next time , you will do much better.

"One I felt like a braggart since only two at first were posting finds,"

Even though I don't have the AQ yet I have felt this way at times. This summer I was on a hot streak finding gold 4 days in a row with the best find on that 4th day. I never posted that ring, in part, because it just seemed too much to believe. It was even hard for me to believe my luck that week.

As far as the AQ goes, I had the chance to get one but decided to wait. It was a tough decision and I even wonder from time to time as to whether or not I made a mistake. I mean, I wanted one of these for years. I still do, but to be honest, I wonder if the AQ Limited would really be that much better than what I am using now, the TDI Beachhunter with which I am having a great year with.

On top of that, it does seem like there have been a few problems that warranted people having to send their machines back for repair. Granted, it does sound like the response from Fisher has been prompt and thorough but perhaps the next generation of AQ will be even more reliable.

I have posted just a few pics of some finds. Only because others have and I thought it was fair. But it doesn't bother me if I'm doubted on pics or what I say on forums. I believe your streaks because I have them too. That's all that matters. In person though it's a bit different with some friends. I hunt more than them therefore I usually find more. But I have detected a bit of animosity at times. So now I toned it down some. One thing is i have never showed or talked about ALL my finds , never will.

About the AQ. I feel the same. Probably best to wait it out for the machine to be perfected. But at the same time , why ? I do pretty good with my PI. After all that's what the AQ is anyway. So maybe it goes a few inches deeper , idk. Is that truly worth it , IF the gold isn't there anyway ? I don't hunt bays or inner tidal zones enough. As you know Compass , when we talk "sanded in" , it's not measured in a few inches. Sanded in here to me and my buddies is measured in FEET !!! Last big storm a month ago had some massive 8' vertical cuts. A little over a week later , same areas have 8-12' of sand. Very few targets now and NO machine is gonna hit it. It's just being lucky finding a piece that hasn't fully sunk yet. But as of now I'm not willing to drop $2-3k on another detector with accessories to hunt the dry. HH !

Had posted these earlier on Facebook AQ page.  Junk bracelet, gold plated silver cross, 14k gold ring, tungsten ring, 25.2 gram platinum ring, silver bracelet, smashed silver ring, copper ring.  All found in 50 foot area in about 2 hours.  Beach has since become sanded in.  Hunting in all metal.

Nice finds. About a month ago during the big storm/cut I saw you on a cam where I was planning on hunting later that evening. I know this from our friend RRF , after the fact. When I finally got down there it was crazy targets. Hunted over your area as you were far off , hoping to introduce myself. Then you were gone , a long hunt. That whole beach paid off - while it was open. Now the door is shut. Until next time ! HH

  5. Very nice hunts. Interesting how HB can barely have a cut and 3 miles south can have 6-8' cuts. I was out last night and had a 12 ring hunt. The last few days have been EPIC to say the least. The 18k with what appears to be a Mercedes design is an extremely common fake brass ring and usually heavy. Good luck on this next storm coming in and the great tides. I will be hunting again as well...

I've never been a fan of the entry level detectors for newbies wanting to get into the hobby. They're fine for someone who just lost their wedding ring in their back yard, but, for someone trying to compete with veteran detectorists in the local park or beach, they're an exercise in frustration. Most people looking to get into this hobby want to find treasure.....however their mindset defines that. If they don't have some initial success, they become disenchanted and the detector ends up in the closet or garage sale. Having a good quality detector that will find more treasure than trash, or, at least some treasure to keep interest up, is crucial in "getting over the hump" in this hobby. I've also seen (and hunted with) many veteran detectorists, who after hitting a dry spell, will also quit.....at least for a while. Success breeds success, and a quality detector for that particular type of venue/search/target will help in that success.

I know what your saying about the veteran guys temporarily hanging it up. But you know what the worst is ? When they tell me " let me know when it's really good , and I will go hunt with you". Knowing I hunt 2,3 times a week. Wanting me to do the leg work....for them. Yeah , right.

  7. Just came across this post and had to add my 2c. Interesting that Steve took a pic in Costco , because that's what I did . There were about 4@ pallets of these at several stores by me. I started to freak out ! I envisioned a traffic jam on my beaches. I don't know much about these but they had alot of features for the price. What I can say is the used secondary market has been flooded by these. Typically going for $40-60. People just gave up , didn't find much , idk. I did see quite a few using them in the dry sand for a few months. Now barely anyone is on the beach with them. What I learned is to not freak myself out if I see detectors being sold at Costco again !

Thanks KOB, I had never heard of this so I looked them up. I have a feeling that I will be visiting them someday.

YW. There could be a downside for SOME people. It wants your driver's license , which of course it gives back. Also wants a thumbprint and will take a picture of you. Not a problem for me. Once I took a nice phone in and it said that "this phone has been reported lost or stolen" and couldn't make an offer. It then gave the phone back. Also Google search coupon codes , you can usually get a few extra $ on each phone. The whole process is fairly easy to get quick cold hard cash. Though selling through other avenues will get more $ , I just don't want to deal with the headaches.

Congrats on the collateral digs!  Bag of rice for the phone for a couple of days and then try to charge it.  I have four that I got to powerup that way.  Three had already been turned off from their carrier and the other was an old iPhone 5 with a cracked screen that would power up but not keep much of a charge.  I put up "found" signs on the beaches but didn't get any responses and the signs had been taken down the next time I went to the beaches.  I do have three returns this year though.  So it is always worth the "try".

Keep working on the Cartier, more collateral to find too!!!

I have been having some luck taking phones to the ECO ATM. Recent examples : iPhone 5 , no power , good glass =$8. iPhone 7 exploded sanded battery , shattered glass =$10. Iphone XR , powers up , cracked screen =$55. Some older bad phones they offer to dispose of , no $. Just an option guys. I usually take 3 or 4 in at a time. You can get some cash.

  10. This is like the 2nd coming ! The resurrection of THE KOB ! I've crawled outta the grave. But I'm not gonna fill that hole back in just yet ! It will be interesting to see if some of the patent technology will be useful , maybe some form of hybrid. Have never been a Garrett guy and that could change. I've been a beach hunter and frankly the Garrett's haven't measured up. Whites parts may now be available for a little while longer. I will be looking forward in the next 3-4 years to see what they come up with.

Russ is not in Marketing. As far as I know - nobody is these days - the heads of Marketing were let go some time ago.

Russ works remotely, he is not in El Paso and may not have been there yet - since he came back to FTP

FTP has notoriously poor internal communications

A number of the details he related about the AQ are unlikely to be correct. Here is my view based on what I have heard along the way. I am not infallible on this.

Hardwired coil. No. Various size coils - yes

    Wireless headphones - unlikely

    14” coil extremely unlikely

Gulf salinity issues fixed with some kind of modification - no - it was fixed by more carefully securing the coil cable to the shaft.

100% discrimination between iron and gold - NO

20’ depth for diving - maybe

    Price >$2k - almost certainly

    8 - 10 hours on a battery - likely

    Replaceable Lion batts - yes

Date - if you want to lose money, bet on any detector being available on a pre-announced date!!

Well ok then , if you want to get technical it's Digital Marketing ! Yeah , I until a cure is made , marketing will never be the same. It's all this zoom stuff now and old school pickup the phone.

But I do like ALL of what you said on what you think about the AQ and where it stands now. Makes total sense. Especially betting on a release date ! But damn , the in house  communication breakdowns are so lame....

  12. Russ specifically stated a few times it was the Impulse AQ. Maybe he does need to be given a very small break , maybe not since returning. But I would think he would be given a checklist of features that he could talk about publicly. Again , its common sense ( to me anyway ) why not have a meeting with all departments to be on the same page ? What can and cannot be discussed. I do know about sales/marketing. Many want to impress so much they make blanket statements covering all the bases. Over promise and under deliver just makes one look foolish. I don't see wireless for this as an example. But I don't have the tech knowledge like some of you on here. Surprised Rick hasn't chimed in being the only dealer in the know...probably playing it smart...lol..

For me , I'm glad there are testers giving feedback both good and bad. On any product. It's what "The Team" does with it next is the issue. Hopefully everything is corrected before the final release.

    Ok, gotcha on the scoop.

I've got a couple of cranes I'll use when I get one if there is anything that deep.  No cheap carbon fiber shaft for me.  It is all stainless.  I can't dig fast with them but I can go really deep.

My Nox tries to ignore the stakes but it ends up playing tricks with the size and shape.

Speaking from experience , some tent stakes magically transform into cellphones. Don't discount them...

Links really help people, or just post the video. And in this case is it a YouTube video, not a podcast....

Thanks for clearing that up Steve , my bad. I'm just a member through their FB. They are trying to get the YT going with captions for the hearing impaired. I watch the Monday shows where they have some great guests. One of my favorites is Terry Shannon. Pirate stuff on the treasure coast ! Well at least a little more info on the AQ. I'm sure there will be ongoing changes , but I'm looking forward to this....

Informations are not correct, except the date and maybe the price...

Then maybe "The Team" needs to get on the same page. Especially if you are questioning it. Having integrity, transparency and being honest in a product goes along ways with many people. Anyways guys...I thought many of you already would have been a subscriber and seen this. I highly recommend it and they have some awesome giveaways ! It is called Treasure Talk. Its Phil Myers and Jeff's show. The episode in question is from Sept 28th. See for yourself. Enjoy !

14” coil? Wireless? Makes no sense. The existing coil if anything is too large, and wireless has already been stated as interfering with the electronics.though I suppose a fix could be found for that.

14" coil doesn't sound right to me either , especially since alot of water hunters will be using this machine. But maybe a 2 coil option ? Idk. I'm sure since there are testers out there the final product will see some changes. But I'm just reporting what Russ had said.

  17. I watched a podcast recently of FT with Russ Balbirona the digital marketing specialist. It was a great show , lots of info. A little recap of what he mentioned :  they are looking at a release date sometime of April 2021. This is for the NON limited. Not what all these testers are using. Stock coil of 14". Battery life they are shooting for 8-10 hours. Wireless capabilities. MSRP over $2000 , but under $3500. This came from Russ. I thought he was great. I am looking forward to what the final product will be like.

  18. This is from my experience on mid to steep slopes : on very low or minus tides the vast flat wet can being barren. Only some deeper pulltabs and caps from being pulled out by the surf. Drives me crazy , waste of time. As I move in to the bottom of the slope I tend to find the heavier iron , sinkers , etc. This is where I pay attention for the bigger HEAVIER gold. But this area of late has not been producing consistently for me. It is then where I focus on the mid to higher slope where I have been doing well. Lots of coins , smaller iron ( lobster trap bits ) and jewelry. The gold rings under 8 grams have been in this zone but have sunk deeper. It is my belief that they are being churned up and tossed back upon the beach to begin the process all over again. Timing is everything. You pretty much got to dig it all. Recently I had a great day , went back the next , it was sanded back and horrible. 2 days later I decided to hit it again and it was good. I would have normally waited a couple weeks to check this spot again. Now , I need to be checking my spots every 3 , 4 days. You never know , beach cams help but are not definitive. GL...
