    Hey all,

      So here's my question!!

Sounds like a variety of great coin machines that everyone had, or has!!  But are they in use? Or collecting dust in the corner, or sold??

And has this post inspired anyone to pull one out that they still have, and crank it up for a hunt again??

Sounds like it's about time for an old detector shootout!🤣👍👍

So the other day I took it upon myself to mess around with just what your saying here in my own test garden.

I had an opprotunity to do some testing with some other units this week.

Here are the ones I was testing against my current XP Deus ond ORX.

    1. Whites 6000 DI pro sl

    2. MXT Tracker

    3. Teknetics T2

    4. A few Tesoro units.

These were all compared to my current Deus and ORX with the 9" HF coil. All of the units I tested were tested with the stock coil the machine came with. The MXT is the original tracker with the 950 concentric coil. The tesoro units all had the 8" brown concentric. The 6000 DI pro had the  950 concentric and the T2 had the 11x7 DD stock coil.

I was a long time user of Tesoro as well and I had to put them all up against the XP line up. The only thing the Tesoro's had above the others mentioned above was their light weight and the convenience of being small to get in and out of vehicles with. I am sorry but that is about it. I was a long time fan of the company and have had a ton of them. some of my favorite relic finds have been with a Tesoro. But modern technology has surpassed them a while back.

The 6000 DI pro sl was one of the best at correct ID and depth of the coins in my test garden. It even breaks up on bottle caps. I have used one in the past but it has been a very long time since I have had one in my hands. As far as a coin shooting machine, this one surpassed all of the others in this test for that. It is a great unit as far as performance goes it lacks the ability to pick a coin up next to iron due the the handicap of the stock concentric coil and the only other thing going against this machine is the large control box and the weight of it. Although it was still balanced well, it would let you know after a while of swinging it that it was a heavier unit. For average old open yards and parks it would be a very good unit still for coin shooting purposes.

The Teknetics T2 is a fast unit. It balances pretty well too. It can pick out a target pretty darn good next to trash. I like the unit over all. The best thing about this unit to me is the fact that it runs only on 4 AA batteries. It is balanced well and has good depth. It's separation is still very good for picking stuff out next to trash. It does lack a little on locking on with the target ID number as it bounces around a bit. This particular one that I have now is a very quiet one so I can crank it on up and it does not chatter until it gets above 90 on sensitivity. It is pre DSL or what ever they call it that is supposed to be quieter than the older T2 units.

The MXT Tracker it one of my all time favorite units. I have had a few in the past and I really learned this machine inside and out. It has great depth, the target ID locks on better than the T2 does on deeper items.  It suffers from not being able to pick good items up next to iron with the concentric coil, however it can depending on what angle of attack you approach the item next to iron. It is well made and balances in the hand good too. It has a fast enough recovery speed although it is not as fast as a First Texas unit but it is faster than a lot of other units. It is a good one for parks inside the city limits due to the fact it does not suffer from EMI issues hardly at all. It has the auto notch feature for notching out pull tabs in the coin and jewelry mode. It is my favorite of the others I have tested this week due to all of the time I have had with one under my belt.

So, for what it is worth, after several hours of having fun and some eye opening experiences these past few days with some units, that are to me  very fine metal detectors even still to this day, I have come to my own conclusion below.

None of these that I have tested are as fast on recovery, can separate targets next to trash as good, are as light weight, are  as deep and have a stable numeric target ID number on deeper items better than my current XP machines.  The only thing that any of these had over the XP units was the Whites built like a tank durability and the 95% correct probability of  correct identifiaction of the coin ID of the Whites 6000. That's about it.

Technology has come a long way. I remember back in the 1990's when metal detectors had a leap in technology. I think we are there again the past few years. I see guys keep on wanting the XP company to come up with a multi freq format for the Deus. I personally do not think it needs it for where I live.

Anyway this is just some thoughts from my own little experiment this week. Maybe some of you will enjoy this little write up!!

  2. Ok so according to the manual of he deus with the white HF coil the target ID normalization is fixed on and supposedly it will not give you the option of turning it off.

So yesterday in my test bed on my zinc penny I noticed in 14 khz the ID was 72 to 76.

When I bumped over to another frequency of 31 khz and went back over the zinc penny the ID jumped about 10 segments to 86-88.

I thought the id Norm was supposed to be fixed on the HF coils????

Am I doing something wrong here?

  3. Back several years ago I used the minelab Xterra 50. It was the first unit I ever used with a DD coil.

I bought the 10.5 inch mid freq coil and the 6" 18khz small DD coil.

It was an absolute blast coin unit. i had a ton of fun with it and found a lot if good coins and some of my favorite coin finds as well.

Then I got the MXT with the 6x10 DD coil and had even more fun coin shooting.

I used the mxt for Everything for a long time.

My friend got an Xterra 70 and I tried it out thinking it would be like the 50 was to me years ago.

I just could not get back into the target id numbers again if the minelab Xterra.

I guess that is why I cannot get into the equinox numbering system.

Yes I know it is an easier format somewhat but the target ID of the equinox crams a lot of stuff into 1/2 of the number system to me of say a 1-99 system.

I guess I am just more used to the 0-99 like White has also Teknetics/Fisher and XP.

It just makes more sense to me.

    Great post,

You all are getting me more excited about the goodies i have coming soon!

    For the G2+: An Ultimate 13" and a Nel Snake 6.5 x 3.5 (Simon's Recommendations!)👍👍

For the MXT ProAn Ultimate 13" and an Ultimate 7"

I resisted buying any more coils for the Nox 800, because i wanted a better selection, or aftermarket one's! But it appears that ML will not ever make them, or allow anyone else to either!  (800 traded away now!)👋

But I'm excited to try out the new detectors and coils! Talk about a kid in a candy store! I even got a $100 gift card, and a free digging tool with the coil order! Not too bad! (MetalDetector.com)!

I will post updates under my post "A Tail of Two Detectors✌", as i experiment with these new combinations!! Wish me Luck!!👍

**And one more thing!!  If anyone can help me find someone who makes or sells a multi-piece dust cover for the MXT Pro, it would be very much appreciated! I've been looking all over for one!! I've only seen ONE out of the Ukraine, and it would take about 2 months to get here!! And didn't have a visor!!👎

Those guys out of the Ukraine make quality stuff. I have bought their set for the T2 . Good quality stuff and worth the wait..... Believe it or not.

I am leaning toward the 13" ultimate coil. I like the mxt and since your post the other night when you did your equinox trade.....I would up with another original mxt tracker myself. I also got another T2. What the heck an I thinking??? I too am going backwards. However both if the machines have good performance and are built pretty good.

The reason I went back to older tech that took replaceable batteries is because of thought yo myself heck what if I had an opportunity to go on a detecting outing and i forgot to charge my XP stuff and I did not have 4 hours to wait for the stuff to charge??

That's why I got a couple of the old school units.

    So that is why I

  5. I went to a friend's house and detected his front yard with my ORX. House was from the 50's. Found some old clad and a few wheat cents and some other odd and end stuff. After a while I did not get any more coin signals. There is the odd and end junk left but no more coins with the ORX.

I took my Deus over there the other day just to cherry pick for coins. Did not find one. Not even a zinc penny.

I think that is pretty impressive.

Just wanted to share with you guys.

  6. Looks like most prefer the equinox, vanquish or explorer style units. Then it looks like Deus may be runner up and a few more here and there.

I was considering maybe getting an equinox again. I had the 600 and let it go after I bought the ORX. Now  I think I am just going to make a custom coin program for my Deus. I have not done that yet as I have been relic hunting for the most part the past few years. So it really did not matter that much on target ID.

    Anyways, thanks for your thoughts!!

  7. Thanks to all for your input. I am kind of leaning toward the ultimate as it is more of the traditional shape. I had a V3I once and I just did not click with that machine. I wound up with a large SEF coil for it too and tried it out. Due to the fact I did not click with the V3i I did not give the coil a chance.

I saw a video I believe by Kieth Southern on youtube last night and he had an MXT with the whites 6X10 DD coil and an 8X6 DD coil. He did a test with a nickel under an old clay brick. The whites coil would null out over the old brick because of the minerals content in it. THE sef coil saw the nickel right through the brick. I thought that was pretty amazing. I thought highly of the 6x10 white DD coil made by whites and was possibly looking to get another one. However after watching that video that got me to thinking  and that is why I made this thread.

    Thanks for your input!!

  8. I have had a few MXT machines. I preferred the first mxt tracker because you could pop it in relic mode and flip the toggle switch forward and you would hear the low tone below your disc settings. I think it had a bottle cap notch as well on coin mode but I cannot remember.

If you can swing it see if you can find the white 6x10 DD coil for it too as that was the coil the mxt was designed around and also it will identify bottle caps better than the D2 coil will.

Personally I do not know what kind of detecting your gonna be doing but i used mine for coin shooting and relic hunting when I had it. It is a good unit and I think you will be happy. Enjoy!!

Been a prime member for ages, lots of benefits. The free shipping alone covers the cost if you do much shopping at all. But an alternative might be to call First Texas and see if they will sell you one direct. Amazon gets a cut, and they sell Teknetics direct anyway, so why not?

I did call them and they told me that Amazon had possession of them in a warehouse. It made no sense to me because it was listed as Teknetics had them.

I do not buy that much from online so the prime subscribe would not pan out for me.

    It is tempting but though!!

  10. I almost got one of these but backed out at the last minute because I did not like the amazon prime thing that says it is a free trial then will bill my card in 30 days. I have never bought from amazon before. It is a very tempting thing though pink or no pink. If I buy it and then cancel the free prime special is amazon going to bill me?

  11. What are you trying to do?? Are you wanting to look at the interface on the WS puck and still be wireless??

Or you can mount one of the Garrett wireless set ups with the puck on the stem and have the Garrett headphones that are similar to the good old detector pro jolly Roger style ones.

I personally would get the water kit bag and hang it around my neck with a light weight set of wired headphones plugged into the bag that the puck is in as it is set up just for that reason.

  12. Hey that is pretty cool on how long your batteries have been hanging in there. I saw on a few videos of guys changing the batteries out of their Dues stuff like the coils and the WS headphones and it does not look too bad at all.

I think they are absolutely fantastic units.

I been in this hobby since I was a kid. My brother made me dig for him back in 1982 when I was 9 years old. I did not appreciate the hobby until i got older into my teenage years. Although when I was a kid I did enjoy digging up the old hot wheels and toys we would come across. If I remember right it was some kind of Bounty Hunter Prospector machine. It had a few knobs and a meter. Nothing special at all. But it got us into the hobby.

The technology sure has come a long way since then.......About as long as this thread has come since we starting out talking about the T2 I  bugging you guys thought about!!! LOL!!

Reading this post, I'm happy to realize they are healthy in business and with solid plans for the future... Unluckily I'd say there's another problem for me actually not so little.Communication.

I'm in Europe and if not for this forum, Steve, Alexandre and the information channel we have on this pages, it seem like the AQ never existed...I mean dealers, advertising, promotional activity...Nothing.

Seriously?Minelab, Nokta and every other brand can do so much noise for the minimum release of a gadget and with a similar bomb ready to face the market all this silence overseas?

I clearly asked to be part of the promotional agents for the Italian market and despite the dealer we have here, everything is so silent since before the lockdown time.

Rick Kempf is the only one person I had the pleasure to deal with...I suppose He's a dealer...

I just hope to never be in the need of assistance for my AQ...I just don't know how to keep a contact with the headquarter ant this thing scares me!

I remember when the AQ was talk in the air but then I did not see anymore about it. Then I join up on this detector prospector forum and it seems this is the only place that's talking about it.

I even looked on first Texas website and I do not see anything on it.
