  1. The FNQ weather has been kind to me allowing a few more hours behind the Axiom. Turning down the machines volume as low as necessary and turning the Torus Neckbands volume up to achieve a stable threshold as per the 6K allows me to max the sensitivity in some fairly hot variable ground. As yet I have stuck to the mono coil, because it is an ideal size to push amongst the grass.

What I suspect, at this stage, will make it my king is its many settings options, they make it a very versatile detector. Now to find its first patch, unfortunately that may be months away as it appears our FNQ wet may be starting, Axiom and I got wet as a pair of shags this morn.

Final note - in general noise will introduce at settings above 4. Four would be max on most detectors, and needing three should not cause anyone to freak out per se. If you want the machine to run really quiet, sensitivity 3-5 would be the normal range. Don't think it can't find gold at those settings.

Folks take note of the above and all the other threads Steve has posted in, he may be a dinosaur like me but he knows the go. Axiom has Hyer Mode sensitivity, it has many user settings not like the 6K which has auto sensitivity in its 2 Auto modes, also as Steve has pointed out Fine is roughly equivalent to normal on the 6K, Z etc and normal on the Axiom is roughly equivalent to difficult on the 6K, Z etc. (Note I said roughly). Without beating about the bush, what I`m saying, the Axiom is made by Garrett not by Minelab thus things may appear to be alien to you, spend time understanding Steves posts, experimenting with the settings of the Axiom and you`ll be rewarded. Take no notice and you`ll be disappointed, frustrated etc etc.

  3. Hey, Steve you have not hijacked this thread, no way, you have enhanced it. king is just a word, it doesn`t help us get out there and do our thing but the Axiom can, as does any of your current detectors. Tis just another detector, I don`t know whether it will be my king, the one I goto first and most, but I do know we now have competition in the field and that`s good for us and our hobby.

Santas coming folks, I wish all a Merry Xmas and a Golden New Year.

Thank you Norvic for making my day and Steve H for pushing the Hyper Mode.  Options are what we like.

Ah no no the thanks is to Steve and you Gerry and of course Garrett for listening to you folks, I like that Hyper Mode big time although have only gone to 10 briefly on a number of occasions, just to push, much more comfy using on 4 until I`ve got me wings. Heh I`ve put not a lot of hours behind it as yet but it`s challenging my 6Ks King title and because I`m not running DP as Steve is or a detector dealer as you are, it is easy for me to dub a detector a King when I believe it is so. In time DP will hear from a lot more of us downunderites as I`m sure the Axiom will prove itself not just in its homeland but in MLs.

Yeah, people have me to blame if they don't like things pushed beyond the limits. I have to admit that running the Axiom quiet has been looking more appealing to me over time, as running hot and noisy is very tiring, and I'm not sure it's worth it for more than a limited time. A case can be made that good targets get lost in the noise, or missed due to fatigue, and it's a pretty good case for sure. But when I'm on a small area where I've just pulled 20 bits, having the ability to really jack it up is very welcome.

Having the option to go with insane settings or dialing right back for a quiet no drama time is the go. I do imagine that there will be times Garrett wish they didn`t give the consumer that option but I wish to thank Garrett for that option. Thus I suspect the knockers can blame many more than just you Steve, as long as we don`t grow fat and lazy on the popcorn.🤪

  6. Many Thanks Steve and GC, if you ask my grandson what`s King he`ll tell you the 6K, can you see a 11year old newbie swinging anything but a VLF, 6K or Axiom for 6 hours, 3 days in a row and enjoy it. If I could only afford one PI detector it`d be a toss up between the 6K and the Axiom, the 6K simple light easy to use, GeoSense auto that bangs on subgrammers at depth, the Axiom lighter, more complicated with multiple control settings to play with, a screen that shows the current GB settings with lightning fast couple of short pumps manual GBing and sensitivity control that goes to an insane max for us that like Steves Insane Settings or a very capable min for newbies with a rock solid adjustable threshold.

Brogansown, that is this old codgers aim also, a few more years of "getting out into the hills". Life is good.

  7. Thanks Phrunt, Au... I tell ya what, you show that a vid cam will get me more gold and I`m that fickle I`ll have one for sure. Nah we are not the same gen at all, I`m only a kid of 12 going on 100..... But be assured Garretts on a winner with the Axiom especially if you like having control with settings, it isn`t as vocal as the 6K on some deep scraps but it still gets them. I just had 3 rare cool Summer FNQ days out with my son on the Z , 11year old grandson on the 6K, myself on the Ax. No 1 spot to the son, no 2 spot to the grandson and I come in a crippled last way back in the field, not the Axs fault ..... they`d deliberately burnt me out with gentle prod strategy.......🤪

  8. GC, I have no idea how my ground compares with NZ, but imagine all countries have varying ground, my experience has taught me that if your prospecting close/over existing primary veins/reefs is a good chance the ground is noisy. I have found when prospecting near such ground with Auto tracking GB off your detector will let you know when your approaching such ground, especially detectors that have the capability to turn tracking off and are super sensitive such as the GPZ7000 and the new Axiom. as yet I have had little joy in the super hot ground with the Axiom, but I believe from indications that in time I will master its GB procedure for such ground.

Above is without doubt A Must Read for New Owners, if your too excited to read All of Steves advice threads on the Axiom make sure you read at least this one, it is without doubt A Must Read..... the Axiom has sensitivity to burn and will frustrate you no end if you don`t follow Steves recommendations.

  9. I`ve some country that is similar to yours GC, lots of hot rocks of size from pebbles to boulders that has more recently eluvially overlaid some of the older gold bearing country, have at its edges found a few nice virgin eluvial patches over the years, now the Axiom has a feature that allows you to ground balance and take out hot rocks simultaneously (sort of notch filter) am hoping it can handle this ground. Check out the Axioms downloadable full manual for this features procedure, tis a feature that if it works better than the Zs GB will open more country to us. Also note Garrett recommend operating with GB tracking off something all detectors operators can benefit from if their detectors have that capability even VLFs, since auto tracking come on the scene. Auto tracking still has a payoff you get for its convenience.

  10. Very smart of you to note Phrunt. Yeah initially when I modded the SDC I`d put the tranny inside housing, had to mount it externally to get usable range thus  mounted tranny on Axiom in the field with zip tie initially, all good, suggest exposed PCB at rear where I`ve the Avantree tranny over is the Z-Lynk tranny that would be why its not shielded, now attached Saturn by velcro with a made up conx cable, to be field tested this arvo..... I can feel more Axiom nuggets coming on😉.......... But I noted also that is where Lunk mounted his BT tranny.

When doing my field runs with the Axiom, initially went with the Z-Lynk headphones supplied but settled with the Avantree Torus Neckband coupled to an Avantree Saturn Pro Low Latency aptX BT transmitter I had lying around, headphones are a thing of the past for me. Consider the cable being directly under arm whilst detecting will not foul up whilst detecting, time will tell.

  12. Like Steve, I know how much gold we would`ve got if we didn`t have ML. Garrett started it 40 plus years ago, ML took over and is Garrett now back into it, I should personally know in the next few days, from DPs recent threads I`m excited the green machine maybe the new King for me. Popcorns ready here we go again.............knockers rule...... wouldn`t miss it for quids.........

These Specimens were from an area of 10 by 10 mile and shows some differences.

As can be seen there is many types of specimen.

Wow, that Wofram/gold specimen would certainly be a favourite specie, just wondering if it`s no imposition, is it from Victoria?

  14. GC, I think you have gold fever as bad as I have, after my years and finds, digging a 0.1g still excites, especially when it`s in a new area that has had no attention from our electronic gold rush nor any past rushes. I also must admit I went through a few years when I lost the fever, but one trip on a whim got it boiling again.

  15. Aye MN, prospecting's the go, using methods to locate possible areas that have not been used before, geological methods might sound the most obvious and they have been by actual professional geologists but that`s been done by detector operating geologists for 50 years. Most of us are just amateurs with only a very basic understanding of geology.

Au, the 6K and now the Axiom have refined PI further, Geo Sense works for me, I use the 6K almost always on Auto+, its obviously handling that circuitry noise better than those before, but still a trade off between noise and sensitivity. I am positively excited about running the Axiom with its refinements that have impressed both Steve and Gerry, in a future PI that trade off between noise and sensitivity will be conquered.
