  1. Paul,

I think a 7000 remote (without headphones of course) could be attached to a GoPro or other camera and look at a coil swinging and give all of us a much better idea of 'noisy' vs 'quiet' and fewer words would have to be stated.

If a picture is worth a thousand words then what would the audio be worth?  (An audio file would be worth a thousand nuggets!)

We could have posts which say:  Was or wasn't there a target in this swing?  (The answer could be given in another thread of hot rock or nugget.)

  2. Paul,

Get some sleep there big guy!

Lucky had informed me of this 'off the ground' is better than scrubbing before.  He was of the mind that you keep it about 1 inch but at least don't bounce it.

I know some will say they are 'off the ground' when scrubbing because the coil cover is so high.  Let's wait and see what JP says about that.

  3. I rejoined GPAA and last weekend Kevin was here in Gold Basin.  I had not watched any of the episodes before I talked with him.

I've known Kevin for just 3-4 years when he was at Minelab but at Bill Southern's outing Kevin really impressed me with his knowledge and helpfulness.  All questions were sensibly answered from novice to expert.

I asked him if this was his 'last' job and he said he has many, many Gold Trails to complete.  You guys should hit him up for an episode at your location.

It was later on Saturday night that I downloaded a player so that I could watch his first season shows on DVD and they are excellent.  I learned a lot.

He's not George Massie 'The Buzzard' but he is more involved in the industry than George ever was.  Kevin is a great miner's asset right now so find a way to watch him.  YouTube would be great.

I've looked for it on my Time Warner on Demand and have not found it.  Maybe it is on your network or on Direct TV?

  5. Peter,

I just spent a couple of days with Lunk in Rye Patch.  He set up my Zed with his settings and we found gold.

Much of the gold left in the pushed and hammered places in Rye Patch are less that one gram and so were these.

Lunk takes his time when he is on gold ... much more time than I took.

He'll be spending his winter in Quartzsite, Arizona but will be answering questions here on the forums.  He is a big help.

  6. I have had a coil cover make a difference at the beach.  Some of the wet black sand and other salty pieces had to be cleaned out so often that now I hunt without a cover.  I knew I was having a problem with trapped particles when the coins started sounding muffled.  I don't like to ground it at the beach so I'm ok without a cover.

  7. Steve said:

I walked miles on steep hillsides all day before making that post and no support system works as well in steep terrain as in the flats.

    I say:

The bungee that came with the 7000 has an adjustable clip so that when I use it with the hipstick in less than a second I can adjust it for up-slope or down=slope and avoid elbow pains.

I use this same bungee on the beach where there are sometimes cuts that require me to shorten or lengthen the cord.  It's the best I've found.  One hand, two fingers and voila!  Weightless

  8. Just to be very clear on something:

the Minelab ProSwing harness is the newcomer.

The most recent model has directly utilized the concept

that was invented by the originator of the Hipstick.

The Minelab harness (or any harness) is actually a 'different' concept.  They use a frame (or a strap) but that frame is close to the body.  The point of pull or the lift to the detector comes from the chest.

The Hipstick has a mechanical advantage of holding up the weight of the detector away from the chest with your hips and leg and a minor amount of pull on the chest and arm.  This makes the detector weightless to your arm if you adjust it that way.  You can swing any detector with 2 fingers.  You would not need the extra swing arm (I don't use it).

The mechanical advantage of the Hipstick is what makes it superior and an additional item that can be added to any harness.

  9. The Hipstick works great on the gpz 7000. Only issue, you have to tilt the handle with the control display either left or right off of square with the coil. Because the bungee hits the control display when you swing back and forth.

Wrap the bungee around the display screen.  I did this for years with the 3030 and now I am doing it with the 7000.

I thought the weight might be an issue on the case but it doesn't seem to be a problem yet.
