  1. Steve,

There was a 17 gram nugget found.  I think another one about 10 grams just after I left.

If I was to go back again I would have a better chance of larger gold I think but I didn't see any huge gold but there was considerable quantity in the history of the place.  I heard some big stories.

There was a party one night when the Bering Sea guys were there and Steve Pomrenke said he had plowed a road a few years back and the first guy to check it with a metal detector found a 13 ounce nugget.  A couple of years back there were some hunters who found over 25 ounces in a couple of weeks.

(Every time I said hunting they thought I was going out with a gun!  I should have said detecting.)

I didn't hit any patches like that.  There were some GBII patches but I don't have one of those ... yet.

  2. So I went on this trip to Nome, Alaska.  I was told there was a lot of trash there but I also expected big gold.  I took discrimination, PI and Zed.

We sluiced, high banked and metal detected for about a week in and out of the rain.  One day we went fishing for pinks and chum salmon.

    It was a fun trip.

I got this 11g/5g specimen from a pushed patch about 1 ft down with my Zed.  I wanted more but I didn't get skunked.  Some others there found some larger gold and others did get skunked.

I hope to get better light on this in another picture but I need to get it posted.

  3. I just need to add, my 'shipping problem' is not about a ferrite ring. It is about my promised 'goodie bag' for being find of the month winner. I was told that it was sent on 6/15. Now I was told I would have it in 2 days on 7/ 27 and the next time I can receive it is 8/3 because it was not here today.

Just saying that shipping doesn't seem to be a priority. It could have been overnighted.

On another point, I have seen a dealer bring a charger for a 2300 to a customer that was not even his. They came with a Minelab Rep from Australia so I can understand glitches in the system but when it is YOUR glitch if you don't report it then it could happen to someone else.

  4. Scott and Steve,

I've experienced one of their 'shipping gaps' which seems to be a problem.  Maybe it is an Australian mindset of 'we'll get around to it' but for my part when someone tells you that you are going to have something sent and you don't get it in a couple of weeks, then you follow-up on it and find out they 'forgot' and they tell you that you will have it in two days ... they should never rely on USPS or Ground FedEx.  Send the darn stuff overnight or two day and be prompt about it because you have had a customer wait (in my case over a month) ... it does seem to be a part of their corporate culture now.

I need to add that my two days for the 'make up' shipping is at least 2 days late now.

I'm dealing with both Ireland and Chicago on this one.

  5. Scott,

You know Paul can't track worth a darn.  He has to get out in the lead!

We were headed to a spot one day and Paul got behind me.  I let him pass and he was out of sight bouncing down that road in a couple of minutes.

He has no patience for tracking but on the other hand ... I dare anyone to keep up with him ... even when he is pulling a trailer!

  6. Paul,

I read something on another thread ... i am going to have some cardiac surgey that weekend in St. Helenas.

Does that mean you found a big nugget?   :D  (I wanted to start a good rumor about you.)

Maybe you are 'assisting' in a surgery?

If not you take it easy and get well soon.

  7. Yes, good to know it is not a 'hole' in your senses.

I know with my 3030 that I have an intermittant sound sometimes with my remote WM10.  It needs to be jiggled a bit to make the 1/4" fitting connect to produce sound in the headphones.  Even if it is silent I will see the target on the screen. (Unfortunately I can't say this about the 7000!)  Two senses would be better than one but I have also purchased a sound to vibration device which gives a chance for 3 senses to 'see' a target on the 3030.  It is redundant and I don't know quite how to use it yet.

  8. I get out to my local beaches 4-5 times a week (if not more) and this time of year with it being such a long hot drive I won't be in the desert for a few months.  Some of us here hunt relics and the beach but most here are hardcore nugget hunters.  As Rick said, we've heard that there is gold in the Philippines and also the hidden treasures under every palm tree.  Please show us some pictures of what you find.
