  1. Scott,

That pointer is Minelab's worst product I have owned.  I think by now everyone knows my feeling and mine also broke when tightening it down on the battery.

This was not a pointer I bought separately.  It was part of my new/used 3030 package purchase a few years back.  The pointer was included.

  2. Lucky,

Thanks for the instructions and you didn't include the nugget you let my wife keep.  She has a big smile on her face because you let her dig that nugget.

Just to set this up.  Lucky heard a target and got me to come over and hear it with my 7000.  It was very faint but he knows how to teach.  My 7000 heard it too so we scraped away at it.  When the signal got stronger he got Lu over to hear it with her GB Pro.  (All this 15 minutes he is teaching us.)  She dug the nugget (under .5g) and will always have a smile because of it.

    Thanks.

  3. The details as I remember them ... I'm a screen guy and not a numbers guy with the 3030 because it was jumping around a bit.  It was in an area that had been detected by others over many years and maybe my advantage was multiple targets in the same hole.  On the coin screen it was closer to penny than it was to a gold ring or pull-tab.  But it turns out there was a piece of lead (1.3g) and a little piece of iron.

It was in an area with a lot of volcanic quartz/iron bedrock but this signal was coming from a bit of crumbly material.  I was able to dig it and it was ash/clay layer like on the edge of the Yuba River.  There are some  very hot rocks here but the 3030 will take them out.  I was in all metal in relic mode so the sounds are a bit different than the screen.  I was on fast and deep with gb on.  Discrimination while here was between ground and coin and ferrous and coin.  There is a difference in what it reports here more than the difference in mode to me.

    Have I confused everyone yet?

It was my first gold with the 3030 and one more thing, I was using the stock coil.

  4. Steve,

    I agree with you.

I've had the Pro, Minelab, the gun and a couple of others and this orange AT is the best of the lot.  The worst product Minelab makes is their pointer.

I'm using it on the beach when I find things with my big coil on a 3030 and it saves me a lot of time when I care to use it.

Lately I have been trying to get better a pinpointing with a large coil so I don't use it.  It seems that the problem with a large coil (which is like swinging a big nerf ball detection sphere) is not pinpointing but digging in the right place once we hear the signal.  A large coil is so big there are many places to dig when you hear the signal.  Slowly inching up on a target with the edge of a large coil will reduce the choices of digging the hole. (More on this in a different thread.)

Once close to a target a small tip pinpointer like the AT lets you dig the proper part of the hole.

  5. Confidence is a wonderful thing but what is even better is someone telling you where to find gold.

I'm going to start using Norm's settings.  I hope he tells me where to look also.

No matter where you look ... you have to hear the signal and you did the work Strick.  WTG.  Well written story.  You followed directions and instructions and we're all glad you got your results.  Some of us are even envious.  haha

  6. I have just put up a better picture.  The one I took you could not see as clearly as the one Lu took with her phone.

Can anyone tell me what the 'head' is in the bottom right?  I found it on the beach also but I don't know if it is bird or fish ... I tend to think bird but I don't know.

Fred, I have bought a few scratchers lately and that has proven better than my stock portfolio.

I need hunting now to distract myself from the carnage.

  7. These are my latest beach finds.

I went out one night and found 5 Tarot cards.  Later that night I found 5 rings.  A couple of nights later I went out and found 5 bracelets!  There are several gold and silver rings.

I won best gold ring (5.2 g/18k Harem ring) on Friday night at our PCSC meeting.  If any of you get to Southern California on the 3rd Friday of any month ... I'll take you to the meeting.  I'll take you to some of the gold claims too.
