  1. Glad you found out about this Channel but it actually is not a new one. I have been subscribed to it for several years.  I knew he also posted on a more official XP channel but this one is more interesting to me.   I like his content very much.

  2.  I was able to get out for a short while to test/hunt with the new dt  feature of the new V1.15 update.  It has shown very good promise in my testing at home for both improved deeper target acquisition ( especially in mineralized ground) and improved unmasking in Iron.  The afternoon was quite warm, about 90 degrees F with high humidity. Summer is near & I'm not used to it yet. The bugs are also pretty bad right now so I only stayed about 2 hours.   Out of a handful of targets, there were 3 deeper ones that were found with the dt feature active & set at 4-5 that would not have been noticed without using dt.  All were decent non ferrous items. Nothing over 6" deep, but that just goes to show, how severely, high mineralization handicaps even modern SMF detectors. These were all targets I would have been over before, using The Legend prior to V1.15 dt.   I still need to try the dt out in some dense nails/iron trash spots to confirm it's benefits in unmasking. That will be the next little muggy buggy hunt.  So far I am very pleased with what Nokta has, once again added for us.

  3. Chuck,  I don't think Nokta is "running on borrowed time".  I think they are paddling their own canoe and not letting other "bigger" companies set the rules. They obviously don't take kindly to being bullied, as they shouldn't.  They will introduce any new products when they feel it is ready. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised with whatever it might be & see the "rules of the game" changed in the users' favor.

  4. I am seeing very similar performance as Jeff. I think Nokta improved & refined V1.14 some, both Dt & be. The difference between Dt 0 & Dt 1 is very obvious,  especially in mineralized soil.  In milder soil it takes a higher setting to see the same jump in target acquisition. For me this is a pretty significant improvement. Nokta has really turned a trick with the Dt feature.

  5. Good video Jeff, of a common, but often unnoticed situation.  What I call 2D orientation. Same for Ziggy's video.  This is, on the surface, Monte Berry's nail board type set up.   It is, in fact the easiest of scenarios to have success with using most any decent detector & coil.  But what about what cannot be seen under the surface?  The 3D or so called 2.5D target orientations. This is where detectors have to perform to be considered top unmaskers for me because that is what I hunt in the majority of the time.   I have both, hybrid analog(Vista X) and full digital detectors. I really like both. They each have strengths that are just enough different to keep them in use.  The game changer for me is not analog vs digital,  it is Simultaneous Multi Frequency.  SMF just handles my ground soooo much better.  It also handles iron trash better in terms of false responses.  Does it unmask better?  Maybe. But it unmasks easier.  I don't have to listen thru a barrage of noise. I can do it with the Vista X and my Single Frequency digitals that have open gated audio like the Anfibio, but it is demanding.  SMF is much less chaotic and allows me to listen better and deeper for much longer.  As far as pure depth on isolated targets, it again boils down to how well the unit handles the Ground.

I think the debate is on the wrong subject.  Audio quality, as subjective as that is, is the focus for me. Any TID or screen display is always secondary.  In the end, it is all between your ears,  in more ways than one.

ps;   what I would really like to try is a SMF Vista X. That might be the best of both worlds.

  6. Rob,  You ask a big question that does not have an A,B,C answer. Each detector has a valuable & often unique character and I wouldn’t want to be without any of them. Same for my Tarsacci, MXT and even my Anfibio Multi, AT Max & F5.  I use & enjoy success with all of them.

What type of soil is your red dirt?  I have only seen golden flakes in red granite gravels. It is a form of pyrite if I remember correctly. There are areas of it where I turkey hunt in Mason, Texas.  What will it show on the Legend’s Mineral Graph dry & wet?

The red dirt I hunt in East Texas is iron base Maghemite. Some sites will have small Siderite hot rocks. When dry you can run a magnet through it and the magnet will come out fuzzy. Add man made iron bits and it gets real interesting.
