I don't expect too much from this multifrequency machine. With the Kruzer and Anfibio series (I own a Multi Kruzer) NM has even not managed to implement a simple noise filter, so 3 tone mode with 14 kHz is working good, but all other modes suffer from chattering (also 5 and 19 kHz) on normal conditions. It's so bad that you won't use these modes in the long run. And in 3 tone you can only work above gain 90 because below there is an hidden "ultra fast" mode which has less depth.

If you will experiment with the other Modes with modest Gain settings(50-70) I think you will find the detector will run stable AND have surprising depth & target resolution. Each mode IS different in how it handles EMI, mineralization, & Iron falsing. When you add to this the selection of Frequency & coil choices it is a very capable detector in a wide range of scenarios.

  2. I too think we will be surprised at NM's approach and application of SMF on their new detector. I feel they are following their own vision but also drawing on what has come before, taking the best aspects & melding it to that vision. I think they are taking their time to get it right. I also think the final product will be much more than they started out with on the drawing board. This is based on current performance & a past history of being able to adapt to consumer suggestions quickly. They also do not seem to be boxed in on their thinking & product vision. Young & hungry can cover a lot of ground. I am also hoping some of the ideas & improvements will transfer over to the Anfibio line as updates.

  3. I have not run a Deus. I do know how to set up and hunt heavy iron sites in both low mineral & high mineral ground, moist & dry conditions with the Anfibio Multi. It does extremely well for me. You do have to be willing to dig the signals that are less than perfect. This is relic hunting & I want anything that is not a nail or small piece of Zinc Mason jar seal. Coil, frequency & mode selection are important considerations based on site conditions.

Thanks Kitz, thats the answer I was looking for. Lots of nuances in the audio.  I just placed an order for the X. I need a good " in the iron" machine.  Also getting the 6 x 8 and 14".

Wanting to know how well you & the Vista X are doing. I have really enjoyed mine in similar sites as you mentioned.

  5. Thanks for your thoughts. I haven't noticed any lag with the wireless ones I use. I was a little concerned NM said they were going to BT on the new SMF machine. I'm glad to know that BTLL should be fine. Yes sound is individual. I spent a good bit of time trying to match the best for me wired HP to use as backups for each detector. The AT Max audio sounds better with lower ohm headphones, the Vista X with high ohm & the Anfibio is kind of in the middle. I will eventually get a set of the Sun Ray Golds for the Anfibio.

I have two of the prior version (I have a backup set, but my original set refuses to die ), been using these for a decade now. Highly recommended, and will eliminate most compatibility issues. No wireless is as good as wired if you are really serious.

    Thanks for dropping by Joe!

Steve, you mention that you feel high quality wired headphones sound better than any wireless headphones. Do you include more recent offerings like Garrett's Z Link & NM Green Edition? They sound just right to me. I keep back up wired headphones with me whenever I go hunt. Different ones depending on which detector I am using. All based on quality of sound to my hearing.

  7. Check the coil cable connection for snugness then do a Factory reset. This will get you a fresh base. Afterwards find a CLEAN patch of ground in Zero mode and get a good ground balance on the detector. At 6/8 sensitivity it should be stable with a good ground balance. If the ground is highly mineralized, then you may need to reduce the sensitivity more or run the Iron Disc up to around 5-10. If the EMI is bad it will false & flash VDI's with the search coil elevated, that is what the frequency shift is for. If you still have instability you may have a bad coil. To check, tap it lightly with your no jewelry hand.
