We have "Buffalo Gnats" here at this time of year. They are very small & come in swarms. Their bite will instantly swell and itch for several hours. They love your ears, elbows, the corner of your eye and anywhere else that is hard to reach to swat. I much prefer plain hungry mosquitoes. I have a mesh veil hat too!
Haha, Black flies. Yup, glad they're not here, but They were rampant where I lived before. Nasty little buggers. 👍

You shouldn’t mind the Doctor Flies in the Bahamas then. 😂
Look like horse flies to me, were have plenty of them too. 😵 They're much more painful than deer flies.

That fly is a nasty looking fellow, looks similar to our march flies we have here in Australia. Yes the tumble down the hill wouldn't be nice at all especially from those heights.
They call them "May" flies here in the Southern US, but basically they are deer flies. Fast and relentless. They don't swarm but you can be assaulted by 5 or more at once. Sucks when you're trying to mow the lawn. 😀 I wear a fly hat this time of year, look like a kook. 🤣

Anybody have issues pairing the WSAll XL phones or issues with the WSA ll update ?
I did not have any problems updating 2 pairs of them yesterday, but I did try to connect them today and could not. I was trying some other methods and ran into that. Could be because they were already updated 🤔

You are holding down the - key on the WSA II headphones, right?
If you have been doing that, ensure they are off and charged. You might also want to check "pairing" and unpair any headphones that are there.
Additionally, if you were not successful updating them to V1 previously, they will not connect to V1.

Glad you got it fixed.
The XP tri-head cable is for charging only, there are no data cables in those USB connectors. You have to use the single USB cable that XP provided or any other normal USB cable to update the WS6, WSA-II, and WSA-IIXL.
When I bought the D2 I got a tri-head cable for the coil, headphones and remote but also a straight cable for updating the WS6. The MI-6 cable works too. Wish they had updates for that... 🤔

Thanks for getting out there and braving those deer flies and other vermin F350. 😄 I'll be wearing the same gear this weekend if the weather cooperates. Looking forward to your reviews of v1.0.
It's not the flies but the tumble that hurts so much. 🤣 Imagine rolling 100 feet into a ravine, you might get lucky and stop at a tree. 🤕 Or a lovely marsh at the end. 😵
Check out @CPT_GhostLight's post as well, what are the odds that both of us hit clearly ID-ing low conductors the first time out? 🤔 Hmm... ?
Oh and I don't envy you the black flies up there. 🤣

Very nice hunt, congrats! 👍
Thanks! Not quantity but quality. There are about 500 or more acres of farm right in front of and behind my house, and I have access to it all. 😀 It's mostly planted now.

Well we both literally walked out the door and got some yellow. 🤣 Guess it wasn't a fluke that low conductors sound better now, i feel better! Great work Cap'n. 👍 That was a 3 ring circus for sure. 🏆
I didn't have the same luck with adjusting Silencer, and Bottle Caps was already at 3. 🤔 I put Silencer up to 5 and I think higher, and the old forged nails still gave off some 80s.
There is an old house down the street I'll have to hit again... 🤔

Great finds, F350! That new update is a keeper for sure!
Thanks Cap'n,
Jury is still out for me, I'm finding the improved Full tones a bit less desirable because some aluminum trash doesn't seem to have the rise and fall tones sweeping over it. I'll have to fiddle with some of the new parameters to keep my program valid, or come up with something new. Not complaining, just observing. 🤔
I think I should probably try that High Full option, too bad it isn't on the WS6. 😪

Ripper finds F350, looks like a great permission you have. Thanks for sharing your story I really enjoyed reading it. The things we do to go detecting.lol
Thanks Unox!
The Southern Deer Fly is the F-16 of blood sucking insects. We're at peak season for them now, If you're on a steep hill a squadron of them might cause you to take a tumble. 🤬
The good news is that the bite only hurts, you can let them bite and since they won't let go at that point they're easy to swat. It doesn't itch afterward, there is no welt. I've never heard of anyone getting a disease from the bite here, but it can happen.
The season for them is mostly May into the first or second week of June. There are stragglers for a while. Too bad they infest the best weather we have here. Best to get out hunting when it's below 70°F.

Gold Sweet Congrats! Very nice piece. Hey that type of button rings up 75 on my machine to imagine that. 😂 maybe it’s the program hmmmmm wonder where I got mine.
I am still pulling off ticks from the stuff I was climbing through on my last hunt. I feel your pain, but it paid off for you. Go get some more.
You should have seen me today, long boots with pants stuffed in them and a long sleeve shirt. Wore a mesh bag over my head to keep the deer flies at bay. Poison ivy, ticks and deer flies.
It's better at the beach 😀

Very pleasing watch fob that you found 350.Sometimes those really steep areas can pay off quite well. Some hunters are just a little too well lets say lazy and then of course there are others that cannot traverse such terrain because of health reasons. And then there are those who just overlook them altogether. In my own experience they can sometimes produce coin spills the direct result of someone falling and going ass over teakettle.
Thanks Doc!
I was lucky to get any slope at all, most of the ravines here are precipitous drops from 50 to 100 feet, and right at the tree line. This is Mid Atlantic jungle, very thick undergrowth that makes an area impenetrable in a short time.
I agree that a lot of good finds can be made along these drop offs if you can get to them. 👍 If you're really enterprising, you can dig in the berms created to control erosion.
In most farm fields here there are a few "zones", the Turn Zone where they turned plow animals, the Hunting Zone where they watch the woods for prey chased out by hunting dogs affording a clear shot, and the Rabbit Hunt Zone, right next to the edge. Great stuff is found in all of these, the rest is pretty random.
Turn Zone produces buttons and some coins, hunting zone is pocket knives, gun parts, coins and tools, rabbit zone is coins and some buttons from brush entanglement.

Deer flies?.....God help ya 😄 Them flies are relentless. Gorgeous watch fob. Looks like the style of stuff I was pulling out of a picnic site active from early 1890's - early 1910's. So Victorian is a possibility right through to early Art Deco.
Yeah get 5 or 10 of them around your head when mowing the lawn, it'll drive ya nuts.
I was really stoked that a low expectation hunt turned out quality not quantity. Also like the update so far, but got a while to go before I can really say much about it. My relic program worked a bit better under the older version 🤔

I dug a shield nickel yesterday with an in the ground VDI of 58 (at 24khz max) which I thought was pretty low. I’ll definitely test some samples when I get home. Thanks for the info
Shield nickels, V nickels, and some buffalo nickels came up as that even with the previous version. Not surprised, but good info. 👍 Dug a few a while back and noticed that.

I don't usually go relic hunting in the late spring to fall, but an opportunity presented itself right outside my house. 12 acres of the farm is up for sale, it hasn't sold in 15 years but the owner decided to get a new agent, clear some of the woods to show the potential water view, and lower the price a bit. He gave me permission to hunt all his land so I have access to everything around me that the farmers don't own, and all that too.
The field is the first field outside my house I ever hunted, got a lot of buttons and old relics, some cut pistareens and a half cent.
In the back of this field they cut a path through the jungle to the river, there is a marsh at the end. The hill doesn't look steep but the angle is around 70 degrees or more.
The realtor put a guide rope on the trees.
Yesterday I updated all my Deus 2 gear to V1, what a coincidence 😏 I decided to pack up my WS6 Master rig with the 9" coil and went over there on my golf cart to take advantage of hunting it before the jungle takes it back. It will be impassable by fall.
It was only a 3 hour hunt, that ravine is a killer 😅 hunting on what is the equivalent angle of a 12-12 pitch roof is difficult, the ground is full of roots, and it's deer fly season so they are everywhere. 🤬
Here's the trash, I didn't get much, dug the nails to prove to myself iron was iron, and some were in the same hole as my finds.
I was using Relic Reaper and messing with some of the new features. One thing I noticed was no "Profile" option, it may have never existed but I am not a fan of the large number screen. I also want to put Silver Slayer on this machine now that there are a couple notches available, and a beach program from a forum user I want to try.
First good find was a button, a 75 that ended up being under a root. Very crisp signal, gotta say V1 is an improvement. It had no backmarks and part of the shank crumbled away.
I got to about 10 feet from the top and got a solid 58. Most of the buck balls were 57-63 depending on size, but this just sounded different. Out popped the surprise of the day:
A gold watch fob, i believe it's Victorian era from my search, 1837-1901. It could even be from the 20s. The initials of the owner are in the bottom plate:
The cleaner it gets the "golderer" it gets, nothing flaking off. It doesn't weigh a lot and appears to be hollow.
My guess is 10k Gold Filled, like the one I found doing research below:

It's pretty similar. Gold is gold tho... 🥳
Cannot believe the Deus 2 hit gold already! The initials are those of the owner of the whole farm a long time ago, I may give it to the family. 🙂

Yes to your last sentence. I absolutely love my D2. So much so, in fact, that I have absolutely no desire to buy a manticore! I’m looking forward to downloading the new update.
I did, they changed the scheme so you have to log into the website to get to it, and it runs from there so it should work with any browser or OS. May i suggest Brave Browser because it blocks crap.
Lots of new stuff waiting for ya! Also check out Gary Blackwell's new video. 🙂

Dug Two Lovely Geisha Girls And A Hand Fan What Are The Odds?
in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Posted
Heh, I bow to JCR and a few others, seems like they've seen a lot of relics. I just use Google Lens, and hit paydirt now and again, a lifetime of searching for stuff on the Internet has given me some skill. That and sort of a relentless spirit. Yours took less than a minute! 😀
I've only found one Cash coin with no details in one of the farms I have permission to. Let's say the "immigrant" laborers here weren't exactly minters of currency. I'm fascinated with how old some of those are, and it takes quite a bit of searching to identify one. The details have to be sharp. Some of them are very old.
Really love the stuff Western and Western-ish detectorists find. 👍 It doesn't have to be too old to be rare and cool.
