  1. Hey Paul. I definitely wont be winning an oscar this year for gold videos. I filmed a few lead finds then my first small piece today. Then my crappy cool cam informed me that my media card was full. it is not full. it does this all the time. ive removed it before and put back in and sometimes it fixes it. But not today. did I mention dont buy a cool cam brand hd camera.  Buy a go pro. I guess I will have to get one. I will post my 1-2 minute video after I take 1-2 hours to convert the MOV file to mp4.  Then take another couple hours uploading to youtube.  So much work for a short video. they should atleast give me a mention at the oscars for all the pain that this cheap camera has put me thru. good luck

  2. Hello,

I headed back out to same patch as last weekend to try some more detecting. I grided off a spot where I had a patch going last time. I ended up getting 9 small pieces doing that for a few hours. Then I tried the next little ridge across the small creek only about 40 yrds from patch area. I picked up 4 more and a ton of lead. It was getting late in the day and figured it was time to head out. it was a warm day and the flocks of mosquitoes were coming out. I then decided to try a few more minutes and start moving just to get away from mosquitoes. I went around a big manzanita and got a screaming signal. Only 4 inches deep. I figured it was a big lead as I found alot already. i was really surprised to see a nice nugget. I figured it was the perfect time to call it and leave some for next time. I think I will be going back to grid that little ridge next.  And its time to hit the whole area with the 5000 and see what lurks deeper. But Fors plus did a wonderful job in all metal again today. It really hits good on even tiny pieces. Well the day ended up with 8.8 dwt and 14 pcs again.

    Good luck

  3. I had a friend that use to work for some geological services company. He showed me lidar data before. That is some cool imagery. You can really see old water ditches that went to old diggings and pockets that were dug up. Alot of this stuff is covered in thick brush now. But lidar picks it up. Very expensive stuff. I wish it was free

  4. Hello,

I finally got back at it after a few busy weekends with work. Its been like spring for a couple good weeks and it has been killing me missing all those great days to be out detecting. Luckily I had today off to go play at the gold diggins. Last time out was Gold racer so this time was Fors plus's turn to sniff out the gold. It is still very amazing how well both Fors plus and gold racer run a very smooth all metal in tough ground. This diggins is an old river channel deposit with pocket gold on the same hill side. They slid down the hill together and you get a mix of gold finds. There does seem to be alot of small pieces, so next time I will see what the gold racer can do. Fors plus ended the 2 1/2 hunt with 14 pieces and exactly 2 dwt.
    Good luck

  5. Thanks Scott. And Paul good luck with your camera. Hopefully you have better luck with them then me. I was going to get a gopro but I was affraid that it would stick up too far. And I go thru brush regularly. I figured it would damage it. So instead I bought a cheaper coolcam. It is lower profile but a pain to operate. There is no display, so you cant tell when its on and recording except for a dim red and green light. Usually I film every signal that is non ferrous. Just in case its gold so ill have a live dig video. So I usually have 60-70 videos of a couple gold and dozens and dozens of junk. Then my camera battery is dead. I try to shut it off between targets instead of leaving it on pause. The battery only last about 2 hours on standby. But the lights are so hard to see especially in the sunshine. That most of the time when I think its off, its really on. Then there goes the battery. Another bad thing is this cam that I use films in MOV file, and youtube doesn't accept them. So I have to convert them to mp4, before uploading. Ive been having trouble with low volume on the videos. I think it has something to do with when I convert them. I guess all I know how to run is a pencil and sometimes a metal detector. Lol. So good luck with your videos. I cant wait to see them. Dont forget to wear flip flops so we will know it's summer.lol

    Good luck

  6. I assume you mean Doc's gold screamer. Ive never had any issues with mine on the 5000. I have 2 batteries and I never use them both up in a whole day. I like the feel of not being tied to my detector. I dont wear a harness , bunji. The gold screamer is lightweight and I can swing the 5000 all day . Only thing is once in a while when I charge a battery. The charger dont shut off automatically. Good luck

  7. Is that what the new makro gold snowracer looks like. Lol. Its so sunny here and upper 50's. My sod lawn is very green and growing. I might have to mow soon.

But, but dont fret Paul, your day will come. This summer when its 110-115 degrees here and your sitting on the shore of Tahoe drinking a margarita wearing flip flops. I'll be the one crying. Then you can tell me how cool it gets in the summer eve and you had to put on a light jacket. I will be begging for snow. Lol.

In the meantime, I think they have a couple online detector simulators that you can play. Maybe you and Steve can see who gets the high score.

    Cheers!

  8. Hey Alex

Im surprised you cant find much on new 49er claims. I heard they have a large claim area in good spots. Maybe it's been picked over mostly. I haven't personally done too much detecting gold in siskiyou co. But I do know there was or is alot of surface gold areas for detecting. Southern oregon has alot of great areas to detect gold aswell. Just have to do alittle research.

Also im not sure if gpx 5000 is your first detector and how well you have learned it. But a gpx 5000 can be a little intimidating for new users. I used a few different minelabs for several years, before I ever bought one. I borrowed them first. But once you get the settings and behavior down , pi detectors are alot of fun. I hope you find what your looking for

    Good luck

  9. The best asset to detecting gold is good places to go where you stand a good chance of finding yellow, as Steve already stated. I have personally seen many many people buy really nice detectors and go a few times and never have any luck. They usually have good used sales on these detectors. If someone loaned me a radio shack detector tomarrow, I could go find some gold more then likely cause I have done extensive research and miles and miles of walkabouts. If a person does that then any detector will work. I have used dozens of different detectors before but currently I favor the Nokta/ makro line of detectors, but that is just peronal choice. I hope you find the detector that your looking for and find some gold.

    Good luck!

  10. Hello

It was finally a decent day today with some sun. So I made it out to a spot not far from home to field test the new Makro gold racer.
This detecting place has pretty hot mineralization. It ground balances between 85-89. I ran the Racer in all metal. I kept the sensitivity at default 65 setting. The ground has quite a few hot rocks and the racer wavered a little. So I increased isat up to 8-9 and the wavering after going over any hot rocks was quickly remedied. It does run quite smooth in all metal for a pretty hot area. With isat it retunes quickly and dont miss a beat. The signals even deeper or small were easy to hear. This detector is very strong on tiny targets. I didnt try audio boost. But I had no problems hearing the signals.
It stays ground balanced good and I had no issues with bump sensitivity.
I didnt have alot of field time today, but the Racer was very comfortable in that time. I only tried the 10x5 dd coil, but I will have to try other size coils one of these trips out. Gold racer found about 50-60 pieces of lead. But did manage to find some nice gold too. First time out with gold racer found 2.4 dwt for the day. It is definitely a good gold hunter. The gold racer was a nice surprise.
    Thats it till next time
    Good luck

I have a few videos I will post also

  11. Nice story klunk. Most people never realize how much lead is out there. Ive been to places too where I really thought that no humans have hardly ever set foot. But their bullets sure landed there. Atleast on occasion I find a high dollar lead nugget like a 1800's blackpowder ball, cap and ball bullet or a musketball. Im glad all that gold didnt get in your way. Hope all your lead is yellow next time.

    Good luck

  12. I don't like the limits to my bcn on my phone either Paul. I think land matters, minecache and a website called the diggings are the only ones with mining claim info. There is a website called onxmaps that I think offers many layers. I know they have one layer that shows land ownership for all 50 states. And they update it often. I guess you can purchase it for pc or mobile device.

    Good luck
