  1. Hi Doc. I wasn't complaining & I apologize if it came across that way. I know we all have different uses of our individual detectors & coils. Over time I have gravitated to just sticking with the 5" coil on my GM as I only use it for bed rock detecting & pin pointing when down in to a deeper dig with bigger detectors & coils. The GM isn't my main go to detector but usually always with me as it has its places where it is invaluable. It also gives me a more positive reading as to iron or non ferrous. I just thought out loud when I first saw the picture of that wrap around the hand grip & then read about it holding the coil cable as well. Reading further & seeing the explanation about the coil cable getting damaged by continual clipping & unclipping had never entered my mind as I don't change out the coil. I wasn't attacking you & you do a grand job with your covers & the wrap on the hand grip just adds another option for exactly as it was explained for those that have a need for it for that reason. Take care, stay safe.

  2. It is the age of buying online. Sign of the times. A customer either buys online from a dealer or direct from the manufacturer. If the manufacturer can make a bit more money for themselves by cutting out the middle men then why wouldn't they? Been a tough few years with covid etc, as we all well know, so the bottom line is what really matters for a manufacturer. Tough for you dealers, I know, but money is money for the manufacturers. Looks like they are throwing you under the bus. Times they are a changing.

  3. That cover on the hand grip was the first thing that I questioned the need for when I saw it. In all honesty the 5" coil never comes of my GM. Even when dismantled for back packing I leave the coil cable attached & just velcro strap the shafts together & put in the pack as a nice wee bundle. No need to unclip the coil lead from that housing. I do have a control box cover though to protect it.

  4. Why don't they, Coiltek & NF, make both bundle wound & flat wound? Gives the end user another choice. So if your ground is mild. like ours is here in NZ. then you can chose a flat wound over a bundle wound for it extra sensitivity. That has to be an advantage right?

Some didn't want their real names used.

Hi Ghost Miner. I didn't ask about names. That didn't answer my question about is this part of your story with Jacob still alive & getting involved with you & your crew fact or fiction. For a guy that drank a lot of whiskey & smoked many cigarettes to reach 85 years of age is damn good going. Let alone have the energy to out dig you guys when he probably hasn't done that for decades.

Yes, unless they put some heavy rocks in there lol. I think it was just for show until they confronted them.

Yes, maybe. But the weight of gold to size ratio is the give away to any body familiar with gold. Even compared to the weight of lead, gold is close to twice the weight. Gold being something like 19 grams a cubic centimeter & lead about 11 grams a cubic centimeter. Bit of a fun fact but quite mind boggling.

    Happy New Year.

  7. The Detectorists was a great show & very well done. While it was obvious that the cast & crew had no real knowledge or detecting experience they pulled it off well & with a pretty good story line. They were in no way taking the piss & portrayed that type of detecting in the UK very accurately. You have to love that subtle British humor too. Was great to see this special as it tied up a few lose ends from when the show finished leaving us wanting more.

Happy New Year to you all.

  8. Use the supplied harness & bungy & the detector weighs nothing. Just hangs off your shoulder with the weight going down the built in "hip stick" to your hip, then just the effort of swinging & poking & prodding. Also, use the supplied swing arm & life becomes all that much easier again. Gives you much better & more precise coil control, very important. Not to mention the ease & control it gives in detecting the sides of washes, mullock heaps & areas beyond horizontal.

While the 6000 is way lighter, & feels like it in its construction, It doesn't have the raw depth & power of the GPZ. That I know for a fact.

  9. The deputies were the only ones that knew Dan & Hudson were alone at the camp while the other two were in town.

The deputies also said not to ask what happened to the gang, the sheriff & the judge. They could still be alive for all the crew know. That's odd too. If the crew had their way & delt to the filth they would know they were no longer a threat. The deputies are suspect.

  10. The mining crew are mining a legit operation. All is above board & legal outside of having to deal with the hooligan's & thugs who keep harassing them.  Why can't they just tell the sheriff that & yes they are finding a bit of gold & how much is our business & no one else's. You do your job & we will just stick to doing ours. If we keep getting hassled by thugs we will deal with it ourselves. If you think you are going to be another one of those thugs then we will deal with that too.

Instead of always taking the aggressive approach. After all they are just having a meeting with the sheriff . They  need to draw a line in the sand & tell the sheriff if that if he crosses it, it may not turn out too good for him.
