Personally, I find it disappointing when a rather old technology like blue-tooth hasn't already been widely integrated within new detectors. For some reason detector manufacturers seem to operate ten calendar years behind in technology with a few choice exceptions. Bluetooth and other wireless technologies are absurdly cheap from a hardware perspective and could easily have been integrated, for multiple purposes, a long time ago.
I will give Garrett a nod for being on the ball by picking up on what isn't already dated technology and making use of it. However, I would put a lot of money on the table and say that their Z-Lynk technology is simply a Wi-Fi direct dongle and receiver that transfers data at....drum roll please...6X faster than current Bluetooth hardware! And no, this isn't the same as the Wi-Fi you're probably connected to right now. Unless you've been sleeping in cave the last five years or so you're certain to have heard a thing or two about the burgeoning industry of the Internet of things. This isn't expensive tech either and Garrett is smart to be making money from it.
Lastly, current blue-tooth has a delay of about 100 millisecond +/-, while WiFi direct is at 15 millisecond +/-. While this sounds impressive when they tout the 6X faster, is your coil really moving so fast that less than a tenth of a second is going to be a vast improvement over current Bluetooth headphones when pinpointing that nugget? I'll leave that for everyone else to decide.

I've used both. Steve nailed the answer. Negligible difference in performance, the open design of the NEL is a pain in rocky and rough brush, spend the extra money on the Fisher coil if you don't already have it.

the GPS? Global Positioning System?
Meant BPS, British pound sterling, hard to type on my phone with large fingers.

So, the British pound is crashing after Britain leaves the European Union - was looking through stocks and noticed that gold is up about 5% already today. Also, if you need to buy anything from Great Britian now is the time as the GPS is going to be weaker against the dollar than normal.

My friend purchased this detector. I contacted Minelab and stated in a returned email that Minelab never made a GPC 2300...It looks to be an F3 Compact by the exterior features. Where the paint has worn off it appears to be a green color like the F3 Compact. He hopes the guy sends it so he can disassemble it to see the insides. I told him "its probably a bounty hunter in a Minelab case".
It's just a Minelab F3 Compact as I said before, it's still a good pulse induction unit it's just not the right tool for the job when it comes to nugget hunting. Hopefully your friend can return it and get his money back.

I still cannot grasp how they produced such quality gold items, the skill and the craftsmanship of those folks back then ie viking/celtic jewellery is stunning,no magnifying lens or glasses or electric light.it was all done by hand by either natural light or candle light and by hand.
They also mastered sea travel and attempted to colonize Northern America long before Columbus - truly a remarkable people.

What an amazing feeling digging up history like that must be. I have family all over Denmark and need to get over there and do some detecting.

I wish my GPZ could fold down more, in particular the handle/screen.
The same issue with the CTX 3030. I love being able to throw a detector in a backpack and enjoy my hike in of however many miles without juggling a detector. This is what sold me on the SDC, portability ranks very high on my list of must haves, as much as I loved the CTX it was just too bulky to lug around to those hard to reach places. The similar design of the GPZ has delayed a purchase thus far.

I actually like the looks of this rod more than the standard Deus system. Thanks for the tip Steve.

I bought a set of dowsing rods and a couple of books on the subject last year but haven't done much with it yet. The desert is a big place and I'm open to trying what ever tips and tricks may help especially when sampling.
Stick with "tips and tricks" that are backed by Science, I think you'll find you're more successful.

That's weird as hell.
No chance Minelab wasn't testing an SDC in a F3 shell? I could see them going from the GPX to GPC. The seller has decent feedback too.
No it's just someone trying to pull a fast one - look at the setting switch, also, zoom in on the graphic for "GPC," you can see the edges of a low quality paper base decal or sticker.

Report it on E-bay as well, I did but sometimes it takes multiple reports to get anyone's attention, hopefully in this way we can keep some poor sucker from getting scammed as you said.
-
That is actually a minelab F3 Compact mine detector mocked up to look like an SDC 2300 - the funny thing is that while the paint looks pretty close they botched the graphics job and it says GPC? LOL.
The detectors are pretty similar in appearance, but no, it won't find you gold all over the world as the seller claims it has - anything shy of a gram would have to be rubbed right against the coil of this machine to get a response - great for finding ordinance, not so good for finding gold.

What Steve said...if we ever do decide to look into it though:

These hats are fantastic and last a long time compared to most of the junk floating around out there.

Wish I was retired - congratulations!

I'll second that. The wireless headphones is a must, it's not even newer technology, this should have been implemented in most detectors post 2010 - there is no reason no excuse not to. It's cheap technology at this point in time.

What'd Steve end up with?

I use an Apex badger. I destroyed a few lightweight picks made by Jobe and others before switching to the Apex. I probably don't use the supplied magnet as often as I should, it's nice for popping out those little pieces of iron in your dig holes though. I think I bought it for like $80 bucks at a show.

As dry as possible as the more moisture the material has in it the less efficient the dry-washer will operate.

Very nice - your quad should break down more often.
