Every ' dead tenement'  has almost always already gotten a re-application over it before it even expires. But, those tenements will take months to determine who gets it (often more than one mining/exploration company or individual will have applied for it) and in the mean time, it is now 'pending ground' and open to anyone to prospect on it without permission. There will also be documentation at the Mines Dept, outlining the work that the previous owner did. This gives the budding prospector lots of info to point them in the right direction as to where on the tenement the gold actually is. The gold that a mining company is chasing aint necessarily the same gold we're after.

Hi Aureous, this is what he replied:

'G'day, point is that most dead tenements don't have mines on them. Both geoview and tengraph will show you the mines(most of them) and thats good when we are looking to 'connect the dots' but looking for privately held dead tenements will tell you where the alluvial gold has been. Please let me know if I have or haven't answered your question....I get myself confused sometimes!!'

changing from difficult to high yield would need a GB again, do you use ferrite ring and quick track together to go through again or just pump the coil? Thanks.

I haven't used it since, I've just got too many coils and detectors and not enough time in the gold fields to use them all 🙂 I use the ones I think will find me the most gold on the given day and with small gold being the most common the 14x9" doesn't suit my area as well as the 10x5", although I may have the wrong mindset and be missing the deeper bits by doing so, but I just like going home with something in my gold bottle and the 10x5" is more likely to do that for me 🙂

Thanks. I wonder why 12x7 is more popular than 14x9?

Hi how you feel about 14x9 coil now?

that would make sense. I would be very surprised if your findings has no Chinese there earlier.

I had mentioned one of my issues with the Hip Stick is it was not adjustable.  You had to decide what length you want before you ordered.

So I was wondering what kind of length would be needed for different people of different heights.

So if you could help me out.  Can you tell me how tall you are and what your measurement is from the top of your shoulder to the top of your pants at the waist.

I'm trying to get an idea if something like the Hip Stick could be made adjustable, maybe telescoping with a cam-lock????  What would be the minimum and maximum length it would have to be adjustable to?

For example  I'm 5'7" and from the top of my shoulder to the top of my pants is 20 inches.

So if you could just give me your height and that measurement it would give me a lot of data.  I think this is why the Minelab Pro Swing has not caught on because they did not take into consideration that the height adjustment needs to have a lot more variation than they provide with the screw adjustment.  Because it is so short that is why customers complain that it separates at the joint of the support strut.

    Thank you for your help,

    Doc

Hi I am 158cm so I wonder if the shortest hip-stick fit me or still too long?

    Thanks,
    Ethan

Yes Ethan, it's S/W of the Pilbara/ Nullagine, but about as far for you. I have no plans for a W.A. trip at this stage, if I go anywhere this winter it would be to Tibooburra. If I was in S.A. like you that's would be where I would plan to go, you probably won't strike it rich there but you have a better chance of finding gold than in W.A. The West is good if you know where to go [which I don't anymore]. Getting permissions and navigating and paying for permits like 40e could be difficult, but it's been 30 years since I've prospected there, so I'm really not qualified to comment, it just appears to me that it's become harder. Hopefully someone from W.A. will comment on this. I know my cousin and his wife did well on their last trip, but they were working on a friends lease. Good luck, and keep us informed.

Thanks Jack. Last time I asked someone about going to tibooburra, he said he has been there but nowadays not much gold anymore. Not sure if true or not. However becasue our trip is around 2-3 months, while staying Tibooburra would cost $30 each day I think? then 2-3 months seems a bit costy. Unless there is somewhere free camping?

Surely we will keep you updated. We got starlink as well this time. Dad is the one who likes remote australia so WA is not a bad choice. If you do go Tib please keep us updated.

    Kind regards,
    Ethan

Hey Ethan, how's it going ? No I haven't been able to get away, my sniping partners have taken to detecting with some success in the Corinna area [Tasmania ] they are following the gold trail in creeks and are clearing the overburden/gravel and detecting the bedrock. They are averaging 4 grams a weekend, but are working for it. I have done some detecting in the Leonora/Laverton area years ago [ early 1980's ] at Eucalyptus, Pyke Hollow and Pennyweight Point, but other than that are I don't know it well. It would be quite a bit extra travel time for you but the area I would like to get back to is the Ashburton gold fields. My dad and I did that area in an old Holden towing a trailer with two trail bikes in the early 80's, our main destination was Top Camp, we were the first in there with detectors, we did quite well so we didn't look at any other spots in detail. We went in from the western end at Nanutarra to Ashburton Downs station then to Top Camp from there we followed station roads going east coming out at Meekatharra, passing some very promising areas with alluvial workings [ dryblowings ]. We had to get fuel at three stations on that track, and not one station owner would accept any money 😊let me know when you are going and I will contact my cousin, and see what he says about some possible locations for you, he knows all the spots, he had a dryblowing outfit all his working life, of course I can't be sure he'll tell me anything though.

    Hi Jack,

Ashburton is within Pilbara right? Lol too far for us at this stage. I would only consider going there if someone knows there take us there, like you lol

So you have no plans yet going back to WA? If you do let us know then we can catch up😁

Thanks Ethan, we will stay in touch, I'd love to meet you and find some gold. Message me before you go, I'm from W.A. I have some contacts over there, and maybe some unfinished places I'd like to get back to. I may not be able to but you might. Looks like you had some flooding over your way, there may be some new ground to look at locally, keep us posted.

Hi Jack, how you been? Any luck and trip planning last year and this year?

We were unable to make it last year, because our ute didn't arrive on time, as well as dad had to go back to China as his visa application was rejected. So he is in China now and I will apply again, so hopefully he can come back in a month time.

Now I have got the ute last December and pretty much ready to go. We still plan to go WA this year, possibly from end of May to mid August. Still Laverton areas I guess.. How about you?

    Kind regards,

    嗨伊森,

       我在 Minelab 的网站上进行了快速搜索,找到了您附近的这些经销商 -

    https://www.minelab.com/usa/where-to-buy?search=dealer&country=41&postcode=&name=& detector=252529

Thank You. I will let him know too.

    Hi Ethan,

The dealers and Distributors have their regions, say the US for example.  We are unable to ship outside the US per our contract of selling Minelab products.  This prevents for the most part, dealers selling into other regions and allowing those dealers in those regions to get the sales.

This is probably the best for Minelab, but many smaller regions don't have any dealers to even purchase from, meaning you almost have to purchase overseas or from another region/country.

I have sold small parts like you mentioned to customers in places where they couldn't locate parts per Minelab's approval.

Worst case, contact Minelab direct and allow them to give your friend the nearest location to purchase from.  Hope this helps a bit.

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply. I can see your website and email below. I will send you an email later for what we need and see if you can provide those items.

    Cheers,

One hazard not mentioned and has killed people who go into old mines is poisonous gases that build up down in some mines, you usually can't smell the gas and one lung full is usually enough to kill a person or at least make you pass out and then you die as you breathe more of the bad air.

When the mines were active the miners had ventilation installed to vent out any bad air and pump in fresh air.

What Ridge Runner is saying about some of it went downhill is, when the miners were removing the gold bearing ore they would haul it out of the mine and then had chutes that they dumped it in to get the ore downhill where they would process it to remove the gold, there could still be some gold bearing ore at the bottom of the hill that spilled out or was never processed.

I see. Thanks for explanation I will pay more attention to this. 😁

    From https://www.blm.gov/sites/default/files/uploads/AML_PUB_DangersAtAbandonedMines.pdf

    Why Are There Abandoned Mines?
Abandoned mines are what is left over from mining activities in
the distant past. Back then, mine operators could simply walk
away from a mine without removing safety or environmental
hazards. Today, federal and state laws require that mine
operators make mine sites safe before abandoning them.
    How Dangerous Are Abandoned Mines?
Every year, many people are killed or hurt at abandoned mine
sites. In 2000–2013 alone, 381 people were killed; 152 people
suffered broken bones and other injuries
    . Across the country,
abandoned mines exist in every state. Even a mine that was
“safe” last year could be deadly today due to deteriorating
    conditions.
The leading cause of death at abandoned mines is drowning
in water-filled pits and quarries. Steep, slippery walls make
it difficult to get out of the water. Old machinery and other
hazards beneath the water can injure or trap you.
The second most common cause of death and injury is falling
into vertical underground mine openings. These openings
can be hundreds of feet deep. Often they are not visible but
concealed by dirt, rock, mine debris, and water. Unstable
ground or decaying timbers around mine openings can simply
drop out from beneath your feet.

I would note that since this publication came out things have improved. The statistics are a decade old. They have marked and fenced many old shafts and pits. Still, I’ve seen plenty that are wide open, and a simple misstep in mining country could cost you your life. But frankly you can say the same about walking around in a city. Be cautious and have your wits about you, and never let gold greed overcome common sense.

    Very good, thank you..

I saw youtubes many people adventure in mines, very deep mines where it has water, that would make sense. not sure if in WA if the mines are deep enough to have water? Anyway I won't risk. I will always come back to chat in the forum to prove I am still alive, if not not by the mines.

It’s just so many dangers like old timber’s that’s ready to give way but you don’t know when until it’s too late. Maybe a old box 📦 of dynamite 🧨 just waiting for you to come along and give it a kick.

All I’m saying is just don’t put yourself in harms way.
Lots of times they didn’t know they hit pay until some of it went down the hill side and that’s where you want to be looking.

     Chuck

Thanks Chuck. I actually would like to see or hear what people found or see in those mines. Never under a mine just curious. I don't reckon I would risky myself into a shaft. If anyone has mine pics please show us 😸

You also mentioned 'some of it went down the hill side'. Sorry what you mean by that? I didn't get it. 🙂

  15. Good evening fellas,

Last trip To WA I was impressed as there were so many old gold mines, many were 5-30 meters deep, and I saw one shaft actually had two leves (stories). I wonder if someone can dive in and prospect in the tunnel, where there still might be gold behind the tunnel but cannot be found by the early explorers as 100 years ago they didn't have detectors?

Any stories or experience? Surely it Must be dangerous ☠️💀👻
