With all that is and has been discussed about The Legend, both good and bad, it is a bit surprising to me that no one seems to mention its performance at saltwater beaches.  Here on the West Coast, outside of mine I have never seen a Legend on our beaches.  All I see now are mainly Deus II's and a few holdover Equinoxes.  A couple of Manticores are starting to show up.

    But no Legends.

Here's a news flash for you beach hunters: the Legend is a sleeper.  A MAJOR sleeper.  It will compete with anything currently on the market in terms of depth, sensitivity to small items and stability.  I've run an Equinox since it first came out and the Legend is a match for it.  My buddies with their Deus II's were a bit surprised that I could hit everything they could hit with their machines.

This isn't a sales pitch for Nokta/Makro.  Yes, they had a few missteps with introduction of the Legend.  Yes, they have gone a bit update crazy.  But in its current form, running Version 1.11, it is a serious player if you are a beach hunter.

One small comment to finish up with.   The grip angle on the Legend is a dream.  It is so nice to be able to hold the grip with my entire hand as opposed to have to "finger float" it because the angle was wrong.

whatta ya talking about? I'm on the west coast and i'm rocking my legend! It's a great device and runs super well on beaches, but I can't compare to any other detectors cause this is my first one! Also the YouTuber monterey magnet man also runs a Legend on beaches.
In terms of finds, It's been dry lately due to the sanding in, but late January/ early Feb. I was finding stuff left and right. silver rings, silver coins, a ton of clad and even a gold earring and gold baby bracelet (the bracelet was found at a park). By late feb and early march, everything got sanded in though. Last best find at the beach was a 5.9g 14k gold ring along with a silver ring and 1 silver dime.

The LG35 is a great coil. Noticeably deeper than the stock LG28 or the LG30, separates & pin points very well, stable & sensitive to very small targets. It is a little heavier but if you shorten the shaft an inch or so it is very well balanced all day long.

And here I thought the LG30 would separate better. I guess i'm sticking to my LG35! It's a pretty solid coil when there are targets to be had!

have not noticed any issues so far with the 1.11, but have not been able to really get out and do much detecting with my Legend since updating, other than in my yard, hopefully will be able to get out some this week now that the Snow has finally disappeared and it has finally started to warm up. And yes we Have had snow where I am located in Arizona LOL.

    Must be near flagstaff lol

Work your way slowly into a new scoop that can dig a plug that weighs more than twice as much as your old scoop.

I use my big scoop rarely and when I do I'm sore and potentially 'hurt' by the strain on my rarely used muscles.  It is one thing for a scoop to be big and light and another to get a full scoop of wet sand and lift it.

I've gotten hand strain and forearm strain by digging to much and too fast.

Half scoop if necessary.  A full scoop will seem like you are locked on a tree root.

I'm fairly young and I need to workout anyways so i'll be going in with all the strength I can muster and in the end it'll just end up a good nights rest after all that exercise! For certain though, the size of the holes will be based on the sound the machine produces. I wont be making craters for surface finds!

  5. It has yet to be tested on the field, but this xtreme scoop is huge! I'm definitely not going to be missing targets anytime soon, and those zincers that sink into pooled water will finally be able to be extracted! Easily 3 times bigger than my previous scoop and looks fairly durable! Carbon fiber handle makes it light weight and has a great grip compared to the iron rod I am currently using. I'm excited to try this out tomorrow!

I must have missed the part where that was your first gold ring...congrats and looking forward to your posts in the future. Almost went to the beaches yesterday but decided to get some stuff done around here instead...There are some better tides in the next few weeks but without a weather event it's a crap shoot where to go..I may try to get down there at some point in the next few weeks for some relaxing beach detecting...it's fun but the traffic conditions can make it a real PIA.

I can already tell you that most places are sanded in. You'll be lucky to find a beach that isn't as sanded in, but they do exist! I'm itching to go back down anyways cause I finally got the new xtreme scoop and I wanna dig!

Nice job on the gold. From your comments you are learning much faster than I expected. Backup , multiple beaches are a must. Just be careful and guarded with your favorite Hotspot for as long as you can. Here in So.Cal it doesn't matter anymore whether I post pics of beaches and a map. Between the Youtubers and volume of hunters over the last 5 years in particular , most spots are simply overrun. Sharing a spot amongst friends is a double edged sword. Enjoy it while you can.

I went back yesterday and it's pretty much over for now. Gravel/rocks got moved to the front of the beach near the water so nothing solid could be found up on the beach. I only found light material like broken zincers, worn zincers and dimes, and 1 copper ring. It isn't sanded in like the other beaches so it still has potential but i'll need to wait for a few cycles for the rocks to be pushed back up when they do. The 4 other beaches I went to that same day had pretty much nothing. No coin lines or anything significant, and I fear that moving away from the city beaches will produce even less, as even less people visit those locations. Still, it might be worth to check out while waiting for low tide, then I'll head back to that one beach again.

True , the surf does recycle and bring stuff in. When I talk about a beach being overrun , I mean counting 10 hunters in a relatively tight , small area. I hope you never experience this as it's rather disheartening. Especially when they don't work together.

Oh that sound terrible. Yeah the most I've seen is 2 others, but it's usually just 1 guy.

It would stink if that beach had 10 guys on it. Everyone gets 1 clad coin each, it's that small!

Congrats!!  The first one's usually the hardest one to find.

It was very difficult these type of rings are so elusive!

It's a small beach too, so it's likely to be picked over by detectorists who live nearby if they get the hint. It kinda doesn't matter as much because the waves will keep bringing more stuff in. However at the same time, I got super lucky to find the rings before that other guy did! Sorry other guy if you're in this forum, finders keepers!

  10. Thanks everyone, that beach is seriously the best despite everything else around it being sanded in. The treasures keep piling up there, or at least the coins will anyhow. Hopefully there won't be a flood of detectorists, but I did put out hints about which beach it is! ;)
that beach will be my go to beach during lowtide, but I'll need to scout out the area for a another viable beach to detect at in the meantime.

  11. At last the legend has found me a 14k gold ring.

Was hitting up my usual beaches; all of them were barren, except the last one that I knew would have a coin line at least! (It's the same beach that has given me at least 1 silver ring every visit)

Arrived on site and there was already another detectorist in the water, so I bee lined it to my usual side on the left of the beach. Hit a few targets and then this gold colored object popped out. At first glance, I thought it was another one of those gold colored circles that were usually made of brass and had threads on the inner part. Upon a second look however, I noticed the metal curved inwards, which is when I knew it had to be a ring! There was also alot of crud within the band where your finger is supposed to go. (It prevented me from knowing the gold content of the ring until after I cleared it out.) Afterwards, I circled around the area where I found the first ring, and popped out a damaged silver ring! Oh and I also found a 1951 silver dime.

Pretty solid day, that beach is a treasure trove every time I go. 10/10

Matt I'm not sure what that weed is we do have sticky tar weed around here in certain areas...this place  I avoided last summer due to the overgrowth...I was thinking it was dead Mustard grass which is all over the place in the Mt Diablo foot hills.

GB that tag came off some type of livestock..It had  very large chain attached to it which makes me think a bullock or old dairy cow set up...Thanks for looking Oh and the penny's all had s mint marks but are so thrashed and I looked them up briefly but no love lol.

Too close to home man. I usually head south of there to SC. Best beaches around for finding stuff. San Mateo is a wash though, no swimming allowed.

  13. My first machine and my entry into the hobby. It's pretty fun to use. There's generally one submenu, but I also had to learn how to save my profiles and notch off numbers for custom discrimination. I have yet to learn how to reset the machine to factory settings though! (which is important when you're updating the machine apparently)

I'm allergic to gold (and nickel).  I dug a thin 14K chain last summer that I doubted was real (hallmark on the clasp too tiny to read).  Put it on around my neck for the short drive home.  Walked into the kitchen 20 minutes later and my Wife asked if I found anything good.  I said this chain but it's probably fake.  She said, no it's real, you're breaking out in a rash already 😁.
