  1. I was charged $32 to have the MXS shipped to me from my distributor that is just 258 miles from me.  As a dealer selling a discounted machine there is not much profit in a mid range machine.  The lower end machines are even worse.

I always push the M6 and all flavors of the MXT's because they never had any issues and just worked.  I thought the MXS was going to be the machine I would now push - but I cannot.  I will wait to see what guts they put in the next MXS's frame.  But for now I'm done with the MXS's.

  2. I cannot simply send the machine back and ask for a refund.  The work around is I ask for a replacement and then send the bad one back and refuse the new one so it's sent back.  So in the long run I can get my money back.  As a customer Whites stance is "No refunds"  They will however repair it as many times as it takes within 2 years.  The customer can get a refund from a dealer and then it will be up to the dealer to hassle with the distributor if the dealer choose to do so. Nothing is easy when you have a bad machine....

  3. Well it's been several months since my initial order of 3 MXSports.  I had dropped shipped 2 of them and 1 was for me.  All 3 had the initial issues as the feedback came in from my customers.  They however had no issue in sending them back in for repair especially for the price I sold them for. One even had to send his back another time because the pinpoint was weak.  So I just quit pushing the MXS's..  Fast forward to last Tuesday (7/5/16)  I find out from my wife that she's planned a 3 day trip to the Table Rock Lake area. Well since I had sold my waterproof Compadre last fall I was desperate for another waterproof machine.  So I figured I would give the MXS another shot.  After all I've been a dealer since 1985 and using a machine at my cost is always a plus.  I figured by now all the bugs would be smoothed out and maybe even some more software updates might have been done that no one knows about..???  So I get my shiny new machine yesterday.  I get home from work and put it all together and head to my coin garden. It was no better than my 1st one!  In fact it's worse because this one's pinpoint feature is weak to non existent! So I then check the SAT to see if it goes to 8 to prove it has the updated firmware - it only goes to 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!  By now I'm actually pissed!!!  I am so happy I didn't drop ship it to a customer.  Then to make matters worse I start checking the whole machine out.  I found 4 cracks in the clear face around the sealing point!!  I found 2 right in the upper corners as posted by others.  This is not my distributors problem.  This is Sweet Homes problem!!  I emailed my distributor and said I wanted a brand new machine but not before they check for cracks, pinpoint issues and the SAT that goes to 8.  I am not sending this POS machine back to Sweet Home and wait a month or better to get a used machine back!!  So for all you buying a new machine have your dealer or distributor take it out of the box and check it.  This is going to save you a ton of headaches.

  4. The Compadre at $160 will find super tiny non ferrous targets your pinpointer has a hard time finding or even not at all.  It hits thin gold chains no problem.  I recently sold my waterproof Compadre to help pay for the new water machine just released. That was a mistake..................................................................................................................................................................................

  5. I contacted every person I sold a MXSport to.  I told them that Whites is upgrading the firmware free of charge for some issues that's came up. Some already were in the process and others didn't know.  I told them to send it back even if they felt it was running good. Some users may not even know their engine has a miss in it from time to time. If you don't know what you're missing then you're not missing anything.  But these same users "can" be missing good targets without even knowing it.  So why not upgrade?  It's a win win for the customer.  I would also suggest that if in the future there are free upgrades for any make or model you should take advantage.  It's no different than us buying some software program then later the company comes out with some patches that can make your program run more stable or not lock up.

So everyone get your free upgrade on your MXS.

could you just turn off the tones and use the display? or is that a dumb idea?

I don't mean all the time, like when you are trying to id a target and its very noisy.

Most of the time on any machine reducing the sensitivity to just zero in on that target will settle the numbers and tones down.

  7. My demo model is gone. I asked a couple of my customers to weight the machine to confirm my findings of last week. I'm sure it weighed what I said but wish I could confirm the exact weight right now.  I am absolutely positive it was way over 4 pounds with batteries. I recall weighing my etrac and it was definitely heavier.  It was pretty balanced but nose heavy with the stock coil on.

I do understand the need for the beach float and no float issues. I do not hunt the water so that was not my consideration. Initially it was announced that the stock coil was epoxy filled and the accessory coils are not so that was the reason I was asking the questions as far as weight so I could use that data to make my decision.

Did you see I posted the info you wanted?

  9. In regards to the "being 1 pound lighter".. It's possible that if you don't weight the batteries the mxs is right at 4 pounds.  Then if you stick the 950 coil on it you would be down to around 3lbs 12 oz.  Then using complicated math you would end up with the equation 4 - 3.75 ="s 1 pound. I don't know that anyone builds a coil that weight 4 ounces?

  10. I have used the 950 coils underwater and they float like a 6 man river raft.  I have had the 950 coils open and there is a lot of white foam and dead air space that a small child could survive for some time. What happened to that flat 950 coil they had way back when? Bring it back!  I would only suggest to use the accessory coils on land. We know the 10 inch DD sinks and that's what you need in the water.

  11. I have a stock mxs coil and 950 sport coil.

10 inch stock mxs coil with cover - 18.6 oz

    950 Sport coil w/o cover                14,6 oz

Compare to a 11 inch stock etrac coil with cover - 17 oz

    All coils weighed without cables

Total weight of mxs with stock coil and batteries is 4lbs 6oz

Total weight of etrac with stock coil and std battery 4lbs 2,5oz

Total weight of etrac with stock coil and RNB battery 4lbs

Well seriously, the factory should have part numbers and pricing on the website by now. Consumers should not have to be squeaky wheels. Trying to extract timely information from White's website is such a waste of time most people look to forums like this for information. Again, not a White's problem, an industry problem.

Being a Whites dealer I have found out about new products not from the factory but from forums. I really can't think of one time Whites gave me a heads up on new product. Has this happened to any other dealer or is it just me? I remember a call to see if I had the new TRX in stock?  I told the guy I didn't know what he was talking about?   Kind of made me look like more of an idiot I already am.

  13. How easy and cheap would that have been from the factory?  I bought some safety shoes 2 weeks ago.  My employer pays for $100 of the cost.  I still had to pay another $60 to get the Keen brand.  Then the sales guy said "you'll need these $25 pair of insoles to make the shoes comfortable"  I said for $160 that should already be built in!  More and more we seem to get less and less.  Not just detectors but everything......

  14. You can take the headphone whip that comes in the box and make your own headphone set up like the Atpros.  The Atpro phones are not waterproof but the connector is.  You just shouldn't submerge the phones.  So anyway you would take the mxs whip and seal it to an existing headphone plug with silicone.  You could slip a tube over the connector and fill it from both sides with silicone caulking. Use Type 1 not type 2 silicone.  Or possibly the best way would be to use silicone tape. Just tightly wrap that tape around the connector to waterproof it. Then screw the whip into the mxs and everything but the phones will be waterproof.  Just an idea to throw out there........................

  15. First off the machine is constructed better. Fit and finish is top notch. The display of course is way better. The only program we ran was coin and jewelry and it was on par with the Atpro.  Today I messed with the relic mode on my coin garden and like some others have said it's hotter. I can confirm this.  Just like the MXT owners using the relic mode for coinshooting the MXS excels here as well. I was set at hyperstat and discriminated out foil and tabs set to 8 tones, modulation off. I was able to run sens at 9 to Boost.  Worked great!   Deep with accurate ID. I think some have given up on the MXS without really trying all the modes tweaked to their style of hunting.  As more and more users post their setting we will have more to work with.  Unlike the Atpro the MXS has a lot of options for all to adjust the way they like.
