  1. I have no doubt Minelab is working on new ideas and expanding their technology, as they are an innovative company.  I just hope Minelab will continue to include existing GPZ  customers in any new ergonomic enhancements or much needed screen improvements, like they have done with the software upgrades.  Don't forget about us Minelab!

Still waiting for the Xchange to be compatible, come on now!

The problem is probably a database field mismatch. I think the new firmware is saving settings info that includes the new settings into the data on the detector. If you load the old firmware the old software does not know how to access the new data field. Bottom line running the new firmware and saving find points etc. will get you nowhere until a new version of XChange comes out that can access it.

Steve, are you saying if I load the previous version, i still wont be able to use the Xchange software, or did i read it wrong?

  3. I believe the GPZ is currently the best PI gold detector, but i do have two complaints.

    1) Fix the screen so we can see it!

    2) Fix the Xchange software, so its compatible with the latest update!   My detector will not allow me to add anymore find points, way points, or geo hunts!

I want to be able to use all the features of the machine, not just some!

  4. Giddiup, you can always dig to see if there is any deep gold in this particular area.  What i will do is pothole my patch!  With a pick and shovel i will dig down about a foot or to bedrock in an area roughly four feet by four feet all over my patch or sometimes in just the richest area.  It is hard work, but well worth it. Good luck.

I am interested to see how it works out in the field---

a 5.5 " screen Note 4 is just too squirrely out there for me..

Hi Paul, I know this thread is old, but was curious if you were able to download the xchange software to the tablet and how does it work?

Brian, the B&Z booster is needed to boost or amplify the detectors audio to drive external speakers. The B&Z does this very cleanly with minimal distortion. The B&Z is especially good with the audio of the GPZ 7000 as it can plug into the WM 12 giving full control over the volume levels of the GPZ whilst maintaining the convenience of being totally wireless.

The biggest issue I find with the GPZ using the WM12 speaker is the loss of clarity of audio due to needing to increase the internal volume of the GPZ to get decent volume out of the WM 12 speaker. The quality of the audio coming out of the WM 12 audio jack is very good, but the interaction between the detectors volume controls and the WM 12 speaker is rudimentary at best.

The B&Z system allows conservative settings to be used on the GPZ and then allowing you to amplify that conservative audio through speakers with minimal distortion dependent on localised conditions (wind noise etc).

    Hope this helps

Thank you JP.  Sounds like something I may need.

  7. Thanks Lunk,

When I go back to this area, I will definitely spend some time with the different modes to see which ones give off the best signal.  I always thought HY/Normal gave me the best odds of finding a metallic object in the ground, regardless of its size.  I look forward to learning this machine, going to be a long road :)

Oh Oh, I always detect with enhanced GPS on!  I would greatly appreciate it if you were to elaborate on this, when you have the time.

    Thank you,

    Brian.

  9. They were both 5000's, with one being about 4 years old and the other, with the commander is about 6 months old.

Greg, that would be a good test, but as you know, when we are in the gold field, its all about covering ground and finding gold.  Testing is always on the back burner.  I know you have a special bond with your 5K, wink wink!

    Brian.
