  1. A window of opportunity opened up so Lisa and I headed for the High Sierras for three days. I had not had a chance to swing the 7000 since last Fall and I was itching to work an old worked out patch again. I manged to get one more piece (3.6 grams) just a few feet away from where I found Lisa's Pendant nugget last year. Hunted in Normal most of the time and was surprised that I could tame the 7000 down hunting in this mode. Sometimes it got a little noisy even in low smoothing but I just kept plugging away. Covered lots of ground looking for a new patch and dug countless trash targets but only manged to get the one nugget. Lisa got a small piece in a dry creek bed with her 2300. So at least we both scored gold. Ran into fellow prospector 1515Art who also scored a nice nugget. Good meeting you Clark... Looking forward to the next hunt in gods country. Also included are a few recent finds with the 3030. The Vintage gold ring was found hunting an old home site with Merton.... Going to hit some swimming holes after the 4th of July mayhem. Good Luck out there. strick
  2. I found my first gold ring yesterday. It was down about 8" at the same level I was finding square nails. A lot of history on this property, there is a wagon trail that passes through this area, and it looked like a great place to camp. I was using a Racer 2 in D2 mode and it locked on at 36-38 on the target ID. I was wondering if anyone could help me date the ring. I tried to post a picture where you can see the marks. It's marked 14k, then a diamond shape with "JS' makers mark inside, and a possible date mark it 805, or possibly 80E the last number or letter is hard to read. There was also a piece of gold wire attached to the inside to make the ring smaller. Anyone know jewelers marks out there? Mostly trying to figure out how old the ring is. Thanks!
  3. After testing the purse and coins my buddy and I went detecting. Since I got my garret-carrot I don't mind digging foil signals...I would not go coin hunting without it now! anyway I got this pile of stuff...I threw the trash away before the pic.
  4. I was beginning to think I would never find a gold ring. I have been coin and nugget hunting off and on since the early 90s with some pretty big gaps in between. 2015 was the first year I got real serious about detecting and actually looking for rings while out coin hunting. It came unexpectedly. My CTX conductive numbers were all over but holding tight to the FE 12 line so I thought maybe I had a war nickel under the coil. First thing out of the hole was an old scouts button. After rechecking the hole with my probe I find this ring about 3" further down. The only mark on it is a K with a star next to it. Acid test 14k or better. I'm thinking its early 1900s. Most coins I pull from that depth in this park are that era. Any help on the markings would be appreciated.
  5. This ring was found on a WW2 site in Australia, as this ring is from the states thought maybe someone on here could give me more information on it's origin or even it's owner.
  6. My Noka FORS CoRe showed up this morning 2 days after I placed my order with Chris at AOBP, I have basically a big goose egg of experience at running a detector but have been crash reading everything I can find about these machines since reading Mr Mills Detecting for gold book. I took the machine to a town park and it seemed to be giving me constant signal's with every swing of the coil but one sounded a little zipper than the other grunts and I dug this ring literally 10 minutes into the park and my first dig. I had the sensitivity at 80 in D3 and cant remember what it came up on the target id as. I have so much to learn, I am a bit overwhelmed. But I was pretty happy to find the 10k gold ring no matter the half doz pull tabs I dug afterwards. Maybe in a year or two I will figure out what they sound like LOL. Now to find me a little nugget
