I think the originals were VLF but that they now also make a PI version.

A short handle garden hoe has worked well for me on the beach. Good luck on your hunt!

In the US we respect success but that is not the case in some quarters in Oz. Made no sense to me until I found out about Tall Poppy Syndrome http://www.businesspsych.org/articles/244.html
Lee, I find the GPZ to be tolerant of a fast sweep speed but best at a moderate "normal" sweep speed. I keep trying to slow myself down though and hunt slower yet. What is best for the machine and my attention are two different things perhaps. I pay attention best going slow.

No problem Ray but let's go light on this stuff. It is one side, there may be another, and this is not the place for a trial. It illustrates the issue at hand but let's leave it at that. Thanks. Now let's get back to digging gold and legal relics!

If you like these gold specimen pictures check out more at Northern Nevada Gold http://northernnevadagold.com/en/specimen-gold/specimen-gold-biggest-first

Nice Lunk, thanks for posting!
Oddly enough, the GPZ seems to work. Who would have thunk?

JP can have his own sub-forum anytime he wants, but having discussed it so far the problem is he is too busy digging gold! The offer stands however. Until that time I promise there will be no problem here from those who lack respect for others.

We have been sworn to secrecy Fred about the hidden "Turbo" function. Sorry!
-
No, seriously, It might be educational for both of you. I am sure Barry would love to hear some of your experiences. Really great guy.
-
I do not know but guess before end of the year.
-
Dick, you and Barry should have an offline chat.

Hello Rudy,
Welcome to the forum - you and your GP 3000 are famous. Nothing beats a good prospector in tune with his or her equipment!
-
JP, Thank you so much for your friendship and for sharing whatever you are able here as time allows. The depth of your knowledge on this subject is without equal and it is greatly appreciated. People who question your honesty and integrity simply do not know you and do you a great injustice. They are not welcome here. You said it best, this is the forum to "help the genuine people who I really care about and want to do right by."
Thank you again.

IMPORTANT UPDATE 3/1/2015 - Nokta is an incredibly responsive company. Shortly after the review in the original post, it was revealed left handed models would be made available on request! Also, the coil scuff covers were upgraded to be thicker and tougher. Finally, the rocker switches were upgraded per the post at http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/551-nokta-fors-new-panel-power-switches-headphone-cap-scuff-covers/ This rapid response to issues raised here and elsewhere is flat out amazing to me; I have never seen anything like it from other manufacturers. This reflects very, very well on this company. I have added a note to the original review alerting people to the changes.
Also, the MSRP was just reduced from $999 to $699 with the internet price being discounted to $595. This is flat out an amazing no brainer value in a prospecting VLF detector. The Pro Package with three coils is only $850.
This aggressive price reduction makes this a unit for prime consideration for anyone wanting a good VLF prospecting metal detector. I still have mine and consider it one of the best I have ever used.

Hello argyle,
Interesting, your observation of the gain issues with the Euro detectors mirror mine. Not the camo though, I am waiting for black and gold F19 due out soon!
Finally watched the video, good job overall, so added to my new GPZ 7000 Video Gallery

Hay Steve! Remember your over there where the ground is gently rolling hills, it's always a perfect 70 degrees, the sun is always shinning and gentle breezes blow.. I, on the other hand, detect cliff faces, precipices, chasms, crevasses, gullies, gulches, canyons, under my feet and over my head.
The 7000 is so sensitive it will pick up the dirt under my toenails.
Happy so far with Reebok.
Actually, I am spending most of my time this year poaching your gold, so will be seeing the same terrain you are seeing!
-
The zipper on mine is nylon but the part you grab and pull is metal. Can't honestly see that being a problem though.
-
The Reebok model I posted also has the composite toe.
-
They do not hold up anything near as well as full mountain style hiking boots but it is just the nature of lightweight boots. Especially if you dig with your feet and kick rocks all day long!
-
They will work fine with my GPZ, it is not that nuts for small metal nearby, certainly not the little tab on the side zipper. Over the coil maybe, but not behind it.
-
Lee, I am not looking to answer for JP but just a comment. This issue is being made too much of in other quarters. I turn my GPZ on, do the frequency cancel, ground balance, go detecting. It works immediately. No doubt it settles in as the electronics warm up and more ground passes under the coil but I have been able to find gold within minutes of a cold start. What JP is describing is very subtle and most people would not even notice it.
-
Hello Lee, welcome to the forum. Good to see you here!

This stuff muriatic (hydrochloride) acid followed by a short dip in Whink HF seems to do the trick. Details at http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/404-best-way-to-clean-gold/
Where Do You Find Your Gold?

It really boils down to a time thing. If I have limited time and I want to find gold, I go where it has already been found. Old patch or old mine workings. But to make the big score you need time and patience to hunt for that undiscovered patch. The JP method is hunt old patches just enough to cover expenses, and spend all other time hunting new ground. That is the method I plan on using going forward now that I have more time. In the past my time was more limited so I stuck to proven locations.
The only basic requirement is that the geology needs to be favorable.
