  1. JW mentioned "You generally can't buy anything with gold."....  I traded 1 ozt for $1400 worth of dental work recently.  Asked my dentist if interested in a trade and he jumped!  In Alaska you can buy damn near anything with gold, including raw wild gold.  There's a lot of "gold bugs" out there that are very willing to buy or trade for gold....so don't completely discount gold as a means of monetary exchange.   jmo

Funny you mentioned dogs Swegin we now have around 8 miles of trails on the ranch that let folks come out and walk , ride bikes or horses and i can't tell you how many i  see come back to the parking lot and their dogs have a shed in their mouths .

Nice sheds beatup!!!  Brought back memories of my avid shed hunting days. Cancer slowed me down so hiking the steep stuff for sheds has stopped except for some detecting.  Horn buyer was just setting up chair and Buying Antlers sign in town a few yrs back so I asked him to follow me home cause I wanted to sell my sheds. I kept a few of the best ones and here's what he drove off with. Averaged $9.30lb for these which was 7-8 yrs worth of shed hunting....

  3. I bought an sdc and have about 1.5-2 months before I can bust her out.  I wanted to give Rob A. @ Rob's Detectors a plug because of the great service and what I believe to be an exceptional deal he offered up!!!  Thanks again Rob and I can't wait to get out with the new weapon....

  4. Ditto what GBA said... unfortunately with the enviremental damage that nickel coins take when in the ground with all the pitting, etc. that alone will pretty much make your excellent find kinda worthless...except for the fact that you found it....

Take some steel wool and rub the coin to accent what few highlights the coin still has and put it in a flip and add to your collection and enjoy it....  don't worry about hurting the "value" as it really has none in the condition it's in....jmo

Looking at the coin again it may be too far gone to even use the steel wool with any improvement?

Here's a pic of some nickels I've used the steel wool on and if you look closely at some of the real pitted ones it sometimes makes them look even worse....  so be careful.  Bottom line tho is you really can't hurt that coin much more.....imo

  5. Yes.....

Tesoro Golden sabre II..... used for 22yrs as 1st detector (dug 7300+ coins within first 7 months then quit counting)

Minelab eTrac....  used for 4 seasons has paid for itself if I throw in the 4 gold rings also dug

Minelab Gold Monster also paid for itself 1 season (barely)….

Still working on paying for gas, extra do-dads, coils, camper trailer, etc. etc.....lol

      Enjoyment...PRICELESS!!!!!!

Forgot to mention the 2 that I didn't get paid for:

Tesoro Tejon.... I was upgrading from my 22yr old Golden Sabre II and the Tejon did give me the depth I wanted but in the course of digging only 65 coins with it I got tired of digging 8-10" for some junk due to lack of information?  After following many forums I noticed all the eTrac forums had all the good old coins posted much higher than all the other forums so I made the switch over to Minelab eTrac and then trash to treasure flip-flopped 180 degrees and the old coins really showed up!  Adios to the Tejon and Tesoro...

Minelab GPX5000....  Kinda knew I wouldn't care for it just because of the weight but tried one anyway.  Used it on a couple hunts for a total of approx. 12 hrs.  Hated the weight, hated wearing headphones, hated all the damned cords getting hung up in the brush, hated that harness, hated adjusting bungee going uphill or down, not much for discrimination.  Then digging 2 junk targets about 18-20" deep once I said to self..."I'll bet that took over an hour to dig 2 targets?" so I went back to PU to check time and right at 1 hr.  Sold the GPX imeadiately at $400 loss.  If I hunted ground that wasn't so steep, brushy, and loaded with blowdown(s) I'd have kept it.  I will say it sure did quiet down the hot rocks...I miss that!  jmo
