I have to differ with you on the sdc point. If the graph is correct and that is a big if, it will kill the sdc.

This will remain to be seen. The 8 in coil, combined with being water proof and newspaper size collapsing still are unique features for the SDC. I also believe that MPF and Geo-PI could have different application potentials. For small washes with shallow gold and highly mineralized soil the SDC is just an incredible machine. The 11 inch coil of 6000  is significantly bigger and will not reach where the 8 inch can squeeze in.  But since I will be owning both detectors I will see myself. Perhaps I change my mind then (although I doubt it). Something tells me I will be loving both.   🙂

  2. I wonder what the fate of the 5000 will be once the 6000 is released. Hard to imagine what advantages the 5000 still would have to offer, other than coil options which granted could be a biggie, or the complex settings options that some may still like. For the GM, SDC, 6000 and 7000 there appears to be a sound rationale for mutual existence.

Just wondering, I have never had these issues with the SDC. It was always the tracking out that was responsible for signal disappearance. So is this an issue with ZVT?

So I am trying to answer my own question: MPF is less sensitive to signal disappearances caused by matrix disturbed small gold, hence these effects are less common on the SDC. (?)

I have on many occasions got a very faint signal with my GPZ, I too am a dig it all guy, & when I have disturbed the ground matrix & the target it has disappeared. I knew what I heard but it was gone. No amount of fluffing about with the GPZ brought it back. Break out the Gold Monster & I have found it. Tiny bit of gold. My GPZ & GM go hand in hand.

I wonder if those issues are in part contributed by the 14 in stock coil. Perhaps a smaller coil on the GPZ, like what Simon is using or even already the 12 NF would prevent this signal disappearance of happening?

  5. I am just generally amazed what small stuff the GPZ can find despite the 14 in coil that the GM has a hard time detecting with the tiny 5 in.  I am a "dig it all" guy so I have recovered microscopic trash and gold with the GPZ, so small that I can barely see it in the scoop. Hence, I would give the GPZ a 5 star for small and large gold, but make it dependent on the user's willingness to go for small stuff with the GPZ as well.  🙂

  6. Following on to a previous thread, I don't think for the 0.05g size the GPZ and SDC should only get 1 star and the monster 4. This sort of general verdict is just not accurate and I have no idea why ML is putting this out. The SDC and in particular the GPZ can be super sensitive for the small gold and both can by far outperform the monster in particular in mineralized soil. I think these ratings are merely describing intended application potential rather than real machine comparisons.

They did it with the SDC (finally)

IMO it is not necessary to have all machines always available with all coil options for plug/play. The SDC for instance is perfect with the 8 in mono, I am not following the concept of putting on bigger coils on a machine like the SDC that is made for shallow gold. I do miss the options for the GPZ, but for the new 6000  it appears the 11/14/17 coils pretty much cover what you need, with the 14DD being something very distinctive from other DD's from what we know thus far. I think ML wants to keep their coils as an integral part of their detector design/ franchise and chooses coils that they think are a the best matches for the respective machines and intended use. As I said, the 5000 being the only exception but likely being the last of it's kind. Just my view on things, perfectly fine to disagree. 🙂
