  1. So now i just have to ask..... why would people not use that adapter... or bluetooth and just sell that PRICY little box???

Dean........ i think what happened is ..... like me they bought the machine hoping it would find them smaller gold...... so of course they were digging the heck out of 1 and 2 digit trash.... then throw in bottle caps.  Ya they got frustrated....... especially since many im sure were using machines like the CTX which is a more refined machine.  A couple of guys just bought one i think for a couple of hunts ..... and used it just long enough to ROCK THE BOAT with a little drama.   Im one of those guys who ........ never sells a machine until its paid for its self.... by then ive got a pretty good handle on if i want to keep it.   Im also one of those guys..... that if it works for ME thats all that matters.

  2. I suspect the screen is separate and water got behind it.  He said it was working when he left the beach.   Only points id guess to get into the box is buttons, speaker (maybe) or cracked box.   I suspect the battery is sealed from the PCB as well.   I really like the pressed sealing .... it works.    Not to worry Max said his will be back almost immediately.

  3. Right now im told any problem is being sent to ML aussy land as well.   They are monitoring this machine very closely.   Got a text from VA Max last night ....... he got home and there was water floating around behind the screen.   But ...... he said he didnt notice it when hunting so the machine was still running i guess.   First real water issue ive heard of.   BUT..... ML is on it and said NP.   Gave him shipping and he expects to be in business in just a few days.   Really have to take my hat off to the Ft Belford who is doing the other repairs. Nothing but good things about them.

  4. Field 2 is a better choice in the DRY sand for depth/sensitivity than Gold mode unless you are working volley balls courts.   Once the sand gets damp...... even from the mist it gets chatty..... beach 1 works best at that point down to the waters edge.   You can use beach 1 in the water.... but by time you reduce the sensitivity i just switch to beach 2.   There i use AM to help adjust the sensitivity........if you hear a lot of iron chatter back it off.   Its a very sensitive machine..... especially if you are running any mode but beach and the sands damp..... really lights it up.   For the most part im not digging a foot or two for a tin can......i know golds not there.   Most of the gold will be recent drops on active beaches.   Is there a beach tractor at your location?   I hunt a very busy beach ...... that tractor can make it pretty quiet.   DONT overlook hunting in the water........ fewer targets and the majority of them are worth investigating.

  5. Page 25 of the manual Cliff ....... seems to be telling us its just an idiot light.   We know most every machine will reduce sensitivity going over black sand and will then see targets within that sensitivity.    Ive NEVER seen it come on near the water when in beach 1 and we get a LOT of falsing from the salt and black sand near the surf.   At least you know its not YOUR machine.   But we are still stuck with the question as to why it dont disappear only when in the salt water.

  6. So if you arent diving....... why not do a pair yourself?  Joe (ole beach nut) has a U-tube on how to do it with the parts.   Grab a pair of Pelter muffs and you are on your way.   I also use aircraft muffs to silence the outside noise.  He uses piezos and all we do is aqua seal them.   Got a guy here in Fl...... Harold, now he make a loud pair of phones..... and they are sealed.   First batch he used the wrong slides on and they rusted..... but now im told he changed that.   KILLER pair of phones for the CTX...... you have to turn down the volume.  He does them for the Nox as well.

  7. Cliff..... you are correct. ... the overload will NOT go off IN the salt water.  It will overload on a large target like a can.  But I didnt notice a depth difference on a dime buried at 6" near the can.  Seemed to respond the same.... I didnt notice a depth lose.  However .... whats the down sidenof resetting it in the water?  Maybe nothing with a default gb of 0.

  8. Now we have to bury ..... say a penny approximately 6  or 8" near that target.  Make sure it will hit it then....... overload the machine and see if it hits the bury targets.  Least we will know if it continues to loose depth.   I tried it in my pool........ still will reset at about 10 seconds.   Sooooo ill make a run tomorrow to the beach between rain drops and let you know what my machine does.

  9. Well i air tested mine on my car cliff....... mine goes off approximately 10 seconds like was mentioned.    Cliff...... to be honest there isnt a lot of modulation on large vs very large targets...... so maybe they felt they needed something to tell us that..... otherwise on MOST machine we KNOW when we are dealing with a large target.   Not so much with the Nox..... sunglasses can sound like a smaller target until you get to digging.    Every machine has coil shut down......... kind of like squeezing a sponge.  Youd think the Nox would recovery much faster ....... 10 seconds seems like a long time to me for that idiot light to go off.    I will say there seems to be a recovery lag when digging a target....... put your coil back in the hole and it takes a moment to start detecting again.    Its not the same as swinging over targets and it IDing them quickly based on recovery speed.

  10. The Nox, IMO, doesnt have quit the information that say the CTX does that will allow you to know more about the target.   If you have a detector with good TID.... or modulated tones you can gather way more information than using a depth meter.   Like Steve said...... if you know its a dime and its not there........ more than likely its not a dime.

  11. Cliff we have talked about that.   Ive been oblivious to it i think..... ive yet to notice it so but then again i dont look at the screen that much.   5 - 10 seconds..... thats a pretty long time to be at reduced power especially if you decide NOT to dig..... especially for a fast recovery machine.   Ill have to pay attention and see what i get buddy.   BUT ..... i suspect most machines do the same thing over large targets with coil shut down...... and we know the CTX will loose depth over say black sand without us knowing its doing it.   You would think it would be much like the PPer...... and slowly reduce the targets response.

  12. Id say you found more than a few pieces of gold.

The Nox, much like the CTX, prefers speakers like the audiosears over the piezos.   But those speakers arent cheap so not many use them they arent as easy to seal either for water hunting.   Not many phones perform well underwater for a lot of reasons either.   To me .... its more about finding a pair of phones that are properly sealed for constant dunking.   Its bites ...... but the cheap ML yellows do do that..... but dang i hate those things.   We may see MAL or GGA soon ..... but i think there wont be a big change in sound.

  13. Sweet one Cliff.   Ive had the same thing happen as i mentioned to you.   Iron and good tone.    Looked in scoop.... i had a fish hook, tiny iron chain.... and about a 2 gram gold ring.    I have noticed the machine does a much better job at disc out bottle caps IN the water than it does on dry sand.   I assume it has to do with the reduced sensitivity.

    Dew

  14. Id buy a 9"....... well provide ML learns how to measure.   I seem to remember their 8" was 7 1/4".   We tend to loose an inch or so on each end of those coils on deep targets.... so id think it would really work a trashy area even in the water.   We have 4 distinct modes on the 800.... each could benefit from certain coil sizes and types.

  15. Duke.... i get those bolt from any hard ware store and honestly the smaller the better.  The disadvantage of the bolt Duke is you dont have the adjustment you do with the plunger lock.   Use a double spring clip or the bolt same same.   I put my bolt thru the side.    ML pretty well gave you everything...... lower shaft....... handle........ and cuff.   All ya need is a 36" piece of CF .... about $50 and you are on your way.

Im using one of Pete andersons complete shafts for my Nox..... not seen much needing improving.  The coil stays good and tight...... ive always liked their lower shaft heads better the ML.... not quite as soft and he gives ya a nylon double spring button.

  16. A lot will depend on the length the lower shaft goes into the upper.   Im assuming most will just order a 36" piece of CF and use the ML lower which is 24"..... as a cost saving measure.  The Plunger locks to have some wabble to them and ive had a few break since there is a notch there.   I use a long piece of CF which allows me to just use a nylon bolt.   In the water you have a lot more torque ....... so if there isnt much lower into the upper more movement at the coil...... id use the double spring clip or a nylon bolt to further eliminate movement.   Land guys...... wont have the same problem.

  17. Snorkel ready now buddy...... hopefully you can get out farther than we did to pay for them lol.   Got to say Keith really takes care of his customers..... and the ML repairs have improved since moving up there.   I got my aircraft muffs in the other day for 2 pair of phones.   Nice to see ML listened and gave you more cable that doesnt look as stiff.   The old ones i was always pulling the phones off my head when trying to put the detector down.    You start bringing in the gold with that mask ..... ill have to try it again.   Mother nature was fair to me..... im about a foot shorter than you lol.

  18. Think Andersons shaft........ and save the 3 piece for travel.   Even Andersons 3 pieces says ..... not intended for daily use.  NSC you are right in the water...... there is a LOT more torque there and wear.  Also........ they only used a 1 button spring clip instead of 2 on the slower shaft....... thats going to allow a little movement for the coil..... which will wear the lower lock.  MLs handle seems to be a bit off for me..... and ive read others having wrist problems....... Andersons seems to have fixed that too.

  19. I dare say I have as many hours in the SALT water as anyone.  Its got a 3year warranty. ... so I dont care....im using it as designed.  Nothing made doesnt break.  Ive already shown water gets inside the bottom of the handle thru the hole in the shaft.  Will it be a problem ... I dont know yet.  If you water hunt with any machine expect repairs.  But ive paid for mine a couple of times already.
