Congrats!
I should really dig some more low numbers...

It's always a good idea to keep spare parts

Back to the mystery ring.. had it laying in the cellar and it got dull. Today my chinese scale arrived, so I did a quick confirmation test.
In the dry:
In the wet:
4,34/0,51 ~ 8,51g/cm³
Specific density of brass: 8,73g/cm³ - there you have it
How ever.. at least I own a small scale now

Got a notice today, that a pinpointer with the newest firmware version is on its way to me..

Same beach yields two probably old 925 silvers.
"Karneol" pendant:
Small ring:
Both found near the waterline after stormy weather, which took a good amount of sand from the beach.
Figured one store over here accepts old "Deutsche Mark" clad again, or I can send my clad to the central german bank to get it refunded in Euro. Time to get the tumbler rolling..
Some of them date back to 1949.. very hard to clean.
After 2-3 days in the tumbler with 2-3 water changes per day, most of them look quite spendable:

Boy, that looks freezin' ..
I've found 5-10 of those floberts - they ring pretty strong for their size and fall through the scoop almost every time

Check out this thread, too:

Thanks for your thoughts!
over here we even have 333 gold. I'll take it to a store, when I get my other goldring back from the lost-property office (fingers crossed).
The gold test sets are too expensive for the amount of gold I've found. Perhaps I'll buy a cheapo scale with 0,01g division, and try to determine the density with the help of archimedes
I've found the ring on one of my beaches, which brought up plenty of old stuff.. there are chances, it may date back to the ww2 or even ww1 area.

Hmmm... it looks a little bit too yellow to be copper, but I didn't find any hallmark...

Had a super short spin for 1/2h yesterday.
3,30€, two navi buttons...
and a ring - I still don't know if it's copper or something good, but hey - it's a ring

I've called the beach season over for this year, so I shot a mail at Fisher because of those R1 hang up problems - they've send me a RMA number, no problem. Checking the shipping costs, I realized sending this thing to texas doesn't make sense (22€+).. so I've sent the unit to my german dealer.. I think and hope to get a complete new unit (with R2 ), too. The dealer doesn't seem to have them in stock, so I am waiting for a week now.. fingers crossed
Other than that, I still think it's a great pinpointer!

It's days like this that make me think that I may have an addiction rather then a hobby. ?
That's what I often thought while driving to various beaches in no man's land at the middle of the night, or at crazy weather situations
This year I've sometimes been out 5/7 days a week.. my wife didn't find that very amusing.. so next season is going to get waaaay calmer

I think the angle at which the coil meets the target is very important - more important, than any software change made so far.
You'll never hunt the same area exactly the same way each and every time, that's why you'll always find something you've missed...
Check some coins 90° to the middle of the DD coil + on edge for example .. our € coins fall into the solid iron range.. no chips and chirps. Chances may be small to hit a coin buried like that, but there are chances..
Imho only a side by side test could reveal, if the observations are true. Othervise there are too many variables and subjective feelings involved..

I'm guessing they probably put the Deutsch version on first, then the English.
I've put on the chinese first, to see how things work out before I rape the german one... well, it's still on

Had a little after-season spin yesterday at a beach I don't do very often.
Find of the day:
Other detectorist's Equinox Display cover .. not exactly what you want to find
But luckily the other Equinox user didn't seem to know his / her machine really well, and / or didn't detect very thoroughly. I've found 22,70€, 2DM and 10 Escudos - very good, almost as if it had been a season hunt!
I didn't care about all the silver coin on edge stuff.. but yesterday I've surprisingly dug a 1€ coin, that sounded like trash.. A quick test on the beach revealed, that the 1€ (and 2€) coins on edge in exactly 90° to the center of the DD coil, produce solid negative numbers I don't know if this has been the case with the original firmware or my old detector - I'll have to check that.

Yeah, I did so with the parking meters. But since changing my job two years ago, I seldom need to pay for parking. I started to clean the coins, and used them for paying the baker at weekends (5-6€ per visit with 3 kids). This year, it has just been too much to Im still not sure if I'll buy a 3D printer, or save the money for some metal detecting investments.

It's all cashed in - 1627 coins! I'm feeling coinless now

My china parts have arrived.
Not the nicest build, but it works just great - new tumbler version:
I've brought my first 5kg of coins (~ 1030 pieces) to the bank today. Only one 1 cent coin not recognized
Been out 2-3 times last week - no special finds. Broke trough the 1000€ barrier .. wow... but the beaches are pretty hunted out.

Well done!
I need a 3D printer...
The problem is - I am more the technical person than designer

2,5h on the beach yesterday. There weren't many targets left. ~10€ clad, but some 925 silver again :
It came in at 30.

Both set at 6?
Yes, this are the defaults in beach1.
7 minutes ago, GB_Amateur said:You can move the coil this slowly with a recovery speed of 6 and get all that info??
You loose some depth, but you can swing very slow to narrow down the object size - afaik you even get a pretty stable target ID. I often forget to swing that slow, but I try to do it every time I stumble across a suspicious target

I guess it says Kriegsmarine on the top?
Yes it does!
I've found another one on the same beach from 1939, but the top is totally eaten away. There's a picture of the back in this thread:

Been out two times last week. Boy, those damn junkers..
At first I thought I've found something good, but it shouldn't be..
Find of the week:
It's a 1940 german navy button. What a great condition for a beach find! That thing rings up with a 33-35 on the equinox. You seldom get something in the 30s on the nox.. I often think, why it's going till 40 anyway

Received a brand spanking new pinpointer today - thumbs up for my dealer!
