  1. Same beach yields two probably old 925 silvers.

    Small ring:

Both found near the waterline after stormy weather, which took a good amount of sand from the beach.

Figured one store over here accepts old "Deutsche Mark" clad again, or I can send my clad to the central german bank to get it refunded in Euro. Time to get the tumbler rolling..

Some of them date back to 1949.. very hard to clean.

After 2-3 days in the tumbler with 2-3 water changes per day, most of them look quite spendable:

  2. Thanks for your thoughts!

over here we even have 333 gold. I'll take it to a store, when I get my other goldring back from the lost-property office (fingers crossed).

The gold test sets are too expensive for the amount of gold I've found. Perhaps I'll buy a cheapo scale with 0,01g division, and try to determine the density with the help of archimedes

I've found the ring on one of my beaches, which brought up plenty of old stuff.. there are chances, it may date back to the ww2 or even ww1 area.

  3. I've called the beach season over for this year, so I shot a mail at Fisher because of those R1 hang up problems - they've send me a RMA number, no problem. Checking the shipping costs, I realized sending this thing to texas doesn't make sense (22€+).. so I've sent the unit to my german dealer.. I think and hope to get a complete new unit (with R2 ), too. The dealer doesn't seem to have them in stock, so I am waiting for a week now.. fingers crossed

Other than that, I still think it's a great pinpointer!

It's days like this that make me think that I may have an addiction rather then a hobby. ?

 That's what I often thought while driving to various beaches in no man's land at the middle of the night, or at crazy weather situations

This year I've sometimes been out 5/7 days a week.. my wife didn't find that very amusing.. so next season is going to get waaaay calmer

  5. I think the angle at which the coil meets the target is very important - more important, than any software change made so far.

You'll never hunt the same area exactly the same way each and every time, that's why you'll always find something you've missed...

Check some coins 90° to the middle of the DD coil + on edge for example .. our € coins fall into the solid iron range.. no chips and chirps. Chances may be small to hit a coin buried like that, but there are chances..

Imho only a side by side test could reveal, if the observations are true. Othervise there are too many variables and subjective feelings involved..

  6. Had a little after-season spin yesterday at a beach I don't do very often.

    Find of the day:

    2B265705-6529-44E2-9747-586944B0E211_zps

Other detectorist's Equinox Display cover .. not exactly what you want to find

But luckily the other Equinox user didn't seem to know his / her machine really well, and / or didn't detect very thoroughly. I've found 22,70€, 2DM and 10 Escudos - very good, almost as if it had been a season hunt!

I didn't care about all the silver coin on edge stuff.. but yesterday I've surprisingly dug a 1€ coin, that sounded like trash.. A quick test on the beach revealed, that the 1€ (and 2€) coins on edge in exactly  90° to the center of the DD coil, produce solid negative numbers  I don't know if this has been the case with the original firmware or my old detector - I'll have to check that.

  7. Yeah, I did so with the parking meters. But since changing my job two years ago, I seldom need to pay for parking. I started to clean the coins, and used them for paying the baker at weekends (5-6€ per visit with 3 kids). This year, it has just been too much to  Im still not sure if I'll buy a 3D printer, or save the money for some metal detecting investments.

  8. My china parts have arrived.

Not the nicest build, but it works just great - new tumbler version:

I've brought my first 5kg of coins (~ 1030 pieces) to the bank today. Only one 1 cent coin not recognized

Been out 2-3 times last week - no special finds. Broke trough the 1000€ barrier .. wow... but the beaches are pretty hunted out.

    Both set at 6?

Yes, this are the defaults in beach1.

You can move the coil this slowly with a recovery speed of 6 and get all that info??

You loose some depth, but you can swing very slow to narrow down the object size - afaik you even get a pretty stable target ID. I often forget to swing that slow, but I try to do it every time I stumble across a suspicious target

At first I thought I've found something good, but it shouldn't be..

It's a 1940 german navy button. What a great condition for a beach find! That thing rings up with a 33-35 on the equinox. You seldom get something in the 30s on the nox.. I often think, why it's going till 40 anyway
