No sir, Sinclair I wasn't trying to imply that at all and I'm sorry if you took it that way.
No worries, Tom - I've been a little bit ironic there..
Yes, I got used to it, too.. but there are moments you'll forget it, and it's just not practical. Like a car's airbag would only open, if you take your foot off the brake pedal or something - no one would accept that

I do understand for the new users and guys that don't get to hunt as much it can be a little frustrating.
What do you try to tell me - I don't hunt much with the Nox?
Come on.. it's a major bug and a no go. The Nox is a nice machine, we all love it, but there's no reason to whitewash it's flaws!
By the way - it doesn't only mess up your settings while shutting down... That's the reason I began to only use it occasionally - see other threads.

So flashing back to square one IS a must have
Yeah.. but I am afraid, Minelab won't publish the initial version
I don't know If it is possible to save the exsting firmware somehow either..

Please elaborate...
We discussed the problems in some threads. I can't get them all together..
Or here:
Basically I use beach1 with adjusted tonebreaks for eurocoins most of the time. I've saved a park1 profile as user profile with changed tonebreaks, tone pitches and frequency as a special coinshooting / verify profile. I've been out with a fellow detectorist - if I am in multifrequency, I disturb his machine plenty.. so I switched to my user profile 10kHz - no interference anymore.. but I've simply forgotten to switch back to beach mode before shutting down the machine (habit, because I use beach1 98% of the time and the user profile only temporary). So I ended up with beach1 having my user profile settings, which are completely different, because a 2€ coin rings 16 in beach1 and 20 in park1 for example. I detect based on tone most of the time, so the machine isn't usable in this state anymore.. you'll have to correct all the settings or reset the profile and begin from scratch - If you still remember your hard earned settings!
That's a real pita, if you only have 1h left to hunt .. and you got used to your settings for 100s of hours... it's like a complete different machine..
I've taken photos of the settings now, for a fast recoverytime

until the update is proven out by experienced users to their satisfaction
If we're all thinking that way, we're going round in circles

I've asked Minelab, if there's going to be an update available anytime soon.. because that user profile thingy spoiled my mood 2 times recently. This is the answer I've got:
"Thanks for your enquiry, I apologise for you not receiving a reply yet. Our engineering team are currently working on a software update for the Equinox, due to the complexity of this update they do not have a release date yet. Please watch our website for the software to be released."
Good news: There's going to be an software update available!
Bad news: Nobody knows when it's going to be released
Concerns: If it's so complex, hopefully it doesn't change anything we like about the nox. And if it does, is there the possibility to downgrade the firmware afterwards?
Just wanted to let you know!

One chance might be an Mono <-> Stereo adapter. I "think" I had the same issue with my Jolly Rogers, but with an off the shelf 1/8-1/4 Stereo adapter. By the looks, the Minelab adapter is Stereo-Stereo, too ..
As a last resort, you won't get around to measure the phones and make some wiring changes. If you're not comfortable using an soldering-iron, you're stuck... maybe you have a friend or neighbor who can help you out?
-
Hm.. did you try a standard set of stereo headphones for comparison?
-
Chase goldman means if you are using the original Minelab adapter cable:
?
-
It's going to be an wiring issue..
Did you try to flick the compatibility switch? A mono to stereo adapter should do the trick..
-
The "reference" threshold is a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea...
You'll have to decide, if you want to hear every iron bleep, or if you want to hear a constant tone with a bleep on a good target and silence, if you run over something you discrimed out. It's like an inverted all metal mode somehow
In the end it's a matter of taste. On the 800 you can change the pitch to a comfortable tone, on the 600 it is fixed - which will more likely end up to be annoying..

Check your wiring - it has been discussed in the forum somewhere..

BTW I use 5 tones also
Yep - one of the main reasons I've bought the 800 is the ability to change the tonebreaks and pitches - comes in really handy! ?
-
Chase is perfectly right.
One thing I want to add:
Please beware of the user profile button problems discussed in the forum. Before you turn off the machine, always switch back to the normal profile, or you're going to mess up your settings.
I've asked Minelab when they're going to release an software update - no answer, yet

recovery speed is way to low imo. 6 or 7
It's an Equinox 600 so that's ok!
I would also try to lower the sensitivity to 14-16, maybe even less. Even if you miss deep stuff, you will increase the ability to find good stuff, which doesn't lie so deep - imho.
Park2 and Field2 seem to fit well - you can try to swap to 5 tones .. It may be easier to identify stuff that way, or change the tonebreak accordingly and learn the machine. Personally, for coin shooting I still prefer the 5 tone mode after 100s of hours noxing around ..
Park1 is the easiest to start off with I think.
How ever.. for me lowering the sensitivity made the machine much more enjoyable

This is one of those questions even the gurus havent really answered for beach hunting.
They use a pi machine

Wow.. 7,5h hunting .. my hand would have fallen off
- nice finds!
-
Tripple protection - I like
Other question:
I've often heard about Shoe-Goo or Goop - what is it technically? Over here in germany it seems way overpriced. I often used a car body sealant / adhesive, which seems to glue together anything you can imagine. I've even glued stainless steel on concrete with that stuff.. It doesn't need air to dry and it doesn't smell like it contains solvent.. if it even smells at all.

3 month Equinox 98% beach use roundup
Today I've put together some stuff I've found with the Nox in the last 3 month. Most of the stuff has been pictured in my last posts, anyway
I've counted ~ 400€ worth in clad:
We had execptional good weather the last 2 month, so this doesn't seem to be normal amount you'd expect by any means ..
- a friendly detectorist found the same amound with a cheaper machine
The blingy stuff:
Foreign and old coins:
Some buttons:
10 liters / some kg worth of various trash:
... and other not pictured stuff like bullets, spoons, fishing lead, keys, locks, far gone coins ... you name it!
All in all pretty successful. Beeing out veeeeery often and the nice weather surely helped a lot this season. Definitely need to hit the water for some more ring finds.. but wimpy as I am, I suspect that to happen soon
I am still running stock beach1 with changed tone breaks. I might try the park and field modes, but only having ~2h per hunt, doesn't leave much room for experiments and hunts for small jewelry. Nevertheless I sometimes find veeery small stuff pretty deep down.

I hunt the beach exclusively, too.. buttom of the coil cover looks ok. I have some stony beaches + often hunt at night.. so here and there I hit something
I think if I haven't had the coilcover with it's little protective edge on, my coil wouldn't be so healthy anymore. It really depends on the conditions you're hunting in.
-
Hmm, how's about the extra weight it adds? Where do you hunt most? I don't think the bottom needs extra protection, but the edges, as I often hit stuff lying around.
Obviously Minelab left the buttom open to save weight. While it shouldn't be a problem to close those structures production-wise, they probably left it open, so the coil wouldn't float in the water. Still searchin for something lightweight that doesn't float to close those wholes...every gram counts

This weekend we had a little father and son beach hunt in the early morning. I've let my son take all our findings as pocket money, so it was a no brainer for him to come with me
We had 1,5h and it has been a great experience to hunt in the morning sun, instead of hunting in the evening / night with a head-torch.
13,10€, 1DM, some old coins and a junker - nice!
I've also found a 925 "B" (stands for "Bling"
) pendant - another Silver!:

Here are some recent 925 silver finds:
I am always amazed, when I find such small pieces of silver - keeping in mind my very high swing speed when coin shooting + running beach1! I wonder how many small gold I left on the beach, because it rings in foil range.. but every time I've dug something in foil range, it has been foil![ ](https://www.detectorprospector.com/uploads/emoticons/blink.png)
Yesterday I've found this nice 925 pendant with that super thin chain. I wonder how I managed to dig it, without slicing it up with my scoop:
Clad totals at nearly 600€ now! ... I think it tributes to the execptional good weather we had for the last 2-3 month.
