Funny.. today we had -1,5m water level - I've never seen a level that low since at least 2016 (we have no tides at the baltic sea) - arriving at the parking place, I saw an older guy unpacking his stuff.. We had a nice talk, he said he's detecting >20 years.. and guess which detecor he was using down at the waterline?
A Gold Bug Pro with 11" DD coil! I think I have never seen one on the beach before 😀

Under what circumstances would you want the coil cover off?
Cleaning + drying after a saltwater session and getting ready for the next..
I mean - come on, needing to put on the coil cover to be able to charge the coil... it's a removeable part, why would you want such a basic thing as charging the coil depend on the coil cover? I don't get it.
The Deus has some more of those quirks, where I don't understand, why they didn't change the design. The machine works fine, don't get me wrong - but I think some of the practical things could have been done way better for the price this thing costs. -
Being german, I've found quite some 8k gold, but luckily not as much as 14k or higher 😄
I just happened to find one last week. See one of my last Deus 2 posts.
8k can really look tarnished.. I once found a ring that looked so bad, I initially thought it's silver.
Turned out it was 333 - found it on 15.09 and it had written 15.09 in it (wedding band) - it wanted to be found! -
ups - double post
-
Now that's a nice collection- congrats!
It all depends on the locations and conditions. I sometimes don't find any gold for many month - after one big storm, I had 4x gold in 2 month..

Replaces that plastic "spring" in the middle of the clip, which is prone to break. If it's broken, the clip won't grab itself to the coilcover.
The whole charging design on the deus is a mess. I use an 90° angled adapter for the usb connection - that way I can charge the coil with the stem folded / still in the back-pack. You can't charge the coil properly, without having the coilcover attached.. imho that's totally dumb.. but.. yeah 😄

Thank you!
Afaik no persons were harmed, but the flood caused a lot of damage to some harbors, beaches and dunes etc.
Yes, you can still exchange DM to EUR if you send it to the central bank. Over the course of the last 3-4 years, I've found ~700 DM in clad - that's about 350€ or ~380$! -
We had kind of a „hundred year flood“, which revealed a lot of old stuff on some beaches. Many many detectorists already hammered the beaches - still I did find some good stuff - and two goldies again!
Some 925:
9k gold:
Some more 925:
14k gold:
And a LOT.. I mean a LOT of old clad during the past 2-3 weeks... over 170DM - that's over 90$ .. + maybe 100 Euros.

Over here in my part of Germany, the "serious" detectorists seem to use Minelab / XP exclusively, with Nokta strongly catching up.
I sometimes see beginners with a blend of entry-level Garrett / Teknetics / Fisher / Quest machines - but even those seem to fade in favour of Nokta / Minelab / XP lower priced models.
Imho, the Nox opened up a whole new era in many ways - not only MF / SMF-wise.
-
I've used the Nox for 5 seasons and when I got the the Deus 2, I felt it sounded like crap 😅
It's very likely a "got used to" thing. It takes some time to learn the machine's "language". On some machines a lot can be done with settings - so my Deus now sounds very "Minelabbish".. 🤫 -
Depth is not directly affected.. some people might perceive it that way, because very deep targets, at the edge of the detectors max depth, often get IDed lower and thus fall into the low numbers ferrous range, which you - depending on your settings - won't hear anymore. Notch wouldn't do better in that situation, though.
Personally I almost newer use notch. I like to hear the iron if i want to.
-
From the inside pictures you can see, it is equipped with the nRF5340 chip - same as used in the headphones.

I was running some delayed Windows updates at the same time
It's NEVER a good idea to install anything in parallel.. Windows Updates may install some very cruical stuff, which other programs rely on.

discriminated targets still gives an iron sound, and notch is silent
That's not necessarily the case, you can disable the Iron Audio completely. Notch silences audio for specific target IDs - no matter what's under the coil. Discrimination is intended to be used to separate between good/bad targets -> declare till which ID it's most likely ferrous/non-ferrous. It's more like a baseline.
Lets say you have a target composed of ferrous/non-ferrous material - with notch you would only hear the "good" non-ferrous part - with discrimination and Iron Audio on, you would hear both the ferrous and non-ferrous, no matter which target ID the non-ferrous part has.
Notch can help you to cherry-pick multiple specific target IDs independent of your discrimination settings (as long as your discrimination is set lower than the first desired good target ID of course..).
Afaik some filters use the discrimination range as a "bin" to distinuish between a good or bad target (B.Caps for example).

Nice finds!
I use Audio Filter 1-2, too + Square. Sounds very Minelabbish 😄
Audio Response does A LOT to the perceived depth, imho. I usually keep it at 5.
I'd try to keep the Reactivity as low as possible. Maybe try lowering Salt Sens to keep the machine from falsing, instead of lowering the Reactivity. We had a big storm last week, which unveiled a lot of old stuff and miles of stone/pebbled areas.. machine-gun-like detecting with a lot of mixed/falsing signals. I've played around with the Reactivity and for my feelings, the machine behaves completely different with settings >=2. The signals get very short + quiet, so you really have to listen very carefully. Minelabs Recovery Speed behaves somewhat different.. Didn't try different tone options, though. I usually run Square, 5-Tones, no notches. -
There are at least two parameters, which can't be the same 😉
Salt Sens defaults to 7 - try to change it to 9. Under G.B. change Magnetic to accept - maybe have a play with Tracking, keep B.Cap Rejection disabled, use a slow Reactivity <=1.
Probably won't double the depth, but definitely change something.

For me, the D2 handles cellphone EMI much better than the Nox800. In fact I don't get any anymore 😄
But I have at least 2 beaches, where the D2 is as bad or even worse than the Nox800. There's nothing special there - I think the EMI comes from the lamp poles on the promenade, because I only get that EMI at night. On the D2 only lowering sens / audio response helps a bit. Shifting / limiting the freq. or any other filter doesn't do anything really.. only switching to mono 17KHz helps significantly.

Well done!
That were a lot of targets.. but you have to dig everything to get the goodies 🫡 -
Over here it‘s 2000€ .. more than 2100$
-
And then there‘s the question, what that thing will cost. As far as I can remember, the WM08 was over 300€ as spare part - got the whole Nox 800 kit for 900€ 🙄
-
Wow - did it finally came true?
Perhaps I should have been waiting a little bit longer with my D2 purchase 😬

Can't speak for the Relic programm. I've only tested the Sensitive/P2 and Mono on the beach.
Sensitive work's quite well on the dry sand, but isn't usable on the wet. Our water isn't super salty and we don't have any black sand on the slope. EMI is as bad as Beach Sens. I Sometimes use Mono to mitigate EMI issues on particular beaches. Doesn't work on the wet, too though. I don't think Relic will work all that good, either ..A modified Beach Sens is my go-to on the beach.

1 the long noise cancel feature that the Manticore uses.
Maybe possible, but I don't think this will happen. Some features need to be different to justify the difference in price.

This will probably not happen, simply because the display isn't designed to. You can't add items to the LCD screen. On the Manticore this would be no problem.

Well, that's finally the reason I've bought a Deus.. one of the quirkiest machines I've ever seen - far from perfect - BUT: I can use my beloved headphones 😅
Orx Lower Rod On D2 Factory Rod???
in XP Deus II Forum
Posted
Detect-Ed offers a CF lower rod, which fits perfectly. The stock rod with >=11" coil wobbles like hell.
Imho the whole shaft isn't that great.. even with lower CF rod.
It's rediculous, it doesn't come with CF from stock - seems to get standard already in the 400€ price range.
