  1. What‘s definitely a pro for the D2, are the audio options. You can really tweak it to you likings more than any other machine, I think (didn‘t test the Manti so far, tho).

At the beach I run 5 tones for ease of use at the moment. Switching between full tones, pitch and 5 tones alone feels like swinging 3 different detectors. I can totally see, that those different settings make a sense for different hunting styles and places.

And then you have pvm, square and high square, audio response, audio filter and even an EQ. The possibilities are sheer unlimited..

  2. What I often experience in addition with the D2 compared to the Nox:

I get a loud and clean hit on a target. After I remove one or two scoops of sand, the signal is nearly gone - I mean so far gone, I wouldn’t dig any further, if I didn‘t knew there MUST be something..
If you get the target out, it sounds nice and clean again.

You sometimes have the same effect with the Nox if you move the target, but not nearly as often as with the D2 imho.

I wish I was there for a week or two

    Me 2 😂

Sometimes I have literally month, where I don't even find a junker! (even though I'm 2-3 times on the beach per week)

    Nice one!
I can imagine, that the outside is intended to look "hammered".

  4. We had absolutely no wind, so it has been surprisingly comfortable to hunt. Wind is key at those low temperatures. We went to a nearby beach, which has been hunted to death in the summer. So I played a little bit with the sensitivity. Settled in at 98 and the machine ran dead quiet at that beach! No jewelry this time, interestingly very few old currency coins, but quite a lot crusty current coins 🤔

10,70€, 2,50DM and two far gone zinc pre WW2 coins. Not too bad!
After 2h we decided to cancel - the sand got too frozen.

  5. Really depends how and where you're hunting.

I use the WSAII as a receiver with Audio adapter and cabled sports headphones. I am used to those heaphones for years - for me the perfect balance between noise reduction and still being able to hear what's going on around me. I hunt throughout the winter - all the other headphones are no option for me, because they're not comfortable together with a hat and headlamp.

Sadly they don't get produced anymore and I didn't find any substitution.. so I bought 3 pairs from all over the world for bad times .. 😄

I've run into other folks at the beach and always find myself cleaning up after them, no matter what they are using.

Imho that's a mixture of luck, taking the right path, speed and technique - not so much the detector being used. But I know what you mean - we have it all the time, too - even between my detecting buddy and me 😄

All the best for 2024! 🍀🥂

Gold on the Equinox can be 1-22, even 23-24 on big chunks.

I can second that. It took me nearly 2 years to find the first gold.
Gold can have almost any ID. I've found <1g rings with ID1 and >10g rings with ID24 on the Nox. Everything inbetween is possible..

    Congrats!

the slight flex is there to stop the coil lugs from breaking due to impact stress

    I've thought that's an Equinox thing 😄
I'm using a  CF shaft on that one for 4 years - no broken lugs so far *knock on wood*

And even if it's a problem:
They had years of time and generations of coils out there to learn, and improve their design, imho!
Entry-level machines from other manufacturers come with CF shafts stock these days.

  9. Things could have gone worse, I‘m very happy with the results for this time of the year ☺️

Found the big ring right at the waterline, 4 scoops deep.. you just can‘t leave a smacking 95 behind ..

DM found since end of october: 340
That equals nearly 190$ in old currency alone.. I think I‘ve never found so much in such a short time.

  10. Had to get out yesterday, to calm down and relax a bit. It was fairly late ..(22 o‘clock), so I went to my local beach. With no expectations to find anything, I slowly began my hunt. Two coins after 1h..  and then, all of a sudden I had some interesting signals.. I slowed down and gridded a small section of the beach, maybe 20x50m.

After 3h I had a pocket full of clad and two 925 rings, one of them quite old and big (8g).

Most of the signals were at least 2-3 scoops down and the coins look very corroded - I guess the others didn‘t hear them. Lesson learned again: going slow really helps finding those deep, good targets. Settings were based on Beach 2, Sens 95, Salt Sens 9.

Happy New Year to you all!

  11. It‘s always a pita to remove the water behind the speaker grille after a hunt + the speaker attracts magnetic material / sand.

    Simple solution:
Cover the grille with a sticker. I use a clear sticker, which you can buy on a roll and cut it to your desired size. Did that to my Nox years ago, and it still holds up fine. I don‘t use the speaker anyway.. even with the sticker on, it‘s loud enough for tests etc.
