  1. When I don’t feel like driving anywhere I usually go up the hill in the woods by my house.  This property is owned by the company I work for so I have free reign of it.  Not too long ago I was up there and besides headstamps and bullets I found a harmonica reed.  So yesterday I headed up there and found an area where I was getting a lot of iron signals.  First thing I dug was an old rusty handsaw blade.  Then I found what I think is an iron stirrup.  Not sure if that’s what it is, but maybe someone here can give a positive ID.  Then I started finding headstamps including only my second 10 gauge headstamp.  As I worked my way up a small branch, I noticed a rock spring well!   I was detecting as I walked towards it and got a nice sweet high tone well using sensitive FT.  It rang up 91-93 and I just knew it was going to be a silver dime.  I was hoping for a barber, but it was a ‘34 merc.  I rescanned that hole and got a another exact same signal about a foot away and out pops a ‘24 merc!   I’m so happy I found this spot because I have another place close to home to go.  BTW, there’s another old spring with similar rock work that is closer to my house.  I’ve pounded that one and got I think five silvers.  Although the rock work is similar the one close to the house uses mortar but the one up the hill looks to be dry stacked.

what progs have FMF and what are they ?and how do you choose which ones  on a new self proggy?

and what can they be ? and how deep can they  be ..does full metal no discrim   contain which 1s ?

curious as i have no d2   yet and yet to be convinced

You can go to the XP website and look at the deus II manual.  It will tell you all about programs and frequencies.

The audible tones responded quickly and accordingly over targets, but the VID seemingly lagged quite a bit. Example: in fast mode swinging over 3 targets (small flat button, modern quarter, and modern nickel) spaced 6” apart, the tones reacted as they should, but the VID of the first target dwelled on the screen while passing over the remaining targets.  In Sensitive FT, the tones and VID both reacted quickly and accordingly over each target.

im at work currently and cannot experiment further. Disclaimer: I made these observations late last night and did not try all modes or settings.

Here’s a video showing full tones with correct id verses the other tone options:

  4. I did the update. First update for me as I didn’t do the .6 big number update.  A couple of things:  if you’re new to the deus update, after the download follow the icons on the screen in order.  Don’t plug into the usb port until it tells you to!  After two tries I figured that out. Lol.

The other thing is that my ws6 module somehow became unpaired and I couldn’t get it to pair back up. I finally did get it paired by doing it manually through options.

I haven’t actually tried the .7 update out yet but hopefully I will tomorrow.  For now both the remote and ws6 puck say v0.7.

  5. Those are some great finds!   I’ve been using both sensitive and sensitive ft modes and like the way they work in polluted areas.  The only changes I make are changing program 2 to full tones also.  Program 3 with no disc is noisy, but seems to lock on to good targets.  When all those tones get to be too much I’ll just switch to program 2.  I also vary the reactivity on both programs depending on how polluted the area is that I’m detecting.

For sure my first run 8/9" quarter and minie ball testing the signal was faint to the point I wasnt sure at all and nox banging it! Up 1 audio response is big helpful imo if your a pwm guy! Square isnt for me instantly chopped it out of everything but it may not need adjusted! Very happy with it now though, I cant really explain how I felt first swings but I had big doubt! Possibly disgusted just didnt understand the huge audio modulation, its second to none from my experience!

Rev war action in western nc!? I'm lucky to travel far as getting in the thick cw action! Not alot where I live exactly but Cumberland gap is 20miles so maybe one would consider that (whr i live). In my county specifically biggest unit 1500 cav, william edmundson "grumble" jones and his boys ran around a few months just not any concrete written details the few there are my county doesnt have records from then. Scouring war of the rebellion I have figured out alot in many places that you cant google maps because they dont exist.get in thoss books (google books) for free you may be surprised at how close some units may have been! If your toward tn or va then your not far from some kinda cw action I bet!

Dug some more today I'll get pics in this thread shortly

I don’t care for the square tones either.  Still got my nox for that!   Lol.  I really like those squeaky pwm full tones though.  Really makes a good target stand out!

The coil being offset, already makes it off weighted. Therefore, any resistance be it a solid or liquid will create MORE rotational torque.

As a water hunter, one of my tricks in hard wave wash is to stuff the coil down to the bottom as the rush of water goes by. Thus, not catching the coil and having the water force it away from you. This is now complicated by a coil that is not center mounted.

You’re correct in that the coil ears not being center mounted or in other words, not being mounted at the center of gravity of the coil, will put torque on the coil ears.  The friction force of water will exacerbate this torque.  However, using a centering device will only put even more torque on those cool ears whether in or out of the water.  Think of using a cheater bar on frozen nut.  Here’s a pic of a centering device made by a guy on the friendly forum.  80A38A99-89D0-4DC4-B659-67DC96636745.thumb.png.4c038e9f3616eb10afece57c2c3de63f.pngThat red piece of plastic is basically a moment arm and unless it’s attached to the coil close to where the shaft attaches to it, (and it doesn’t look like it does), it increases the stress through increased torque on the coil ears.  Think of swinging that coil with an exaggerated centering device that’s two feet long and how much stress that would put on the coil ears.  Maybe we have a mechanical engineer here on the forum who can weigh in on this and explain it better.

  8. If it looks like a crack, feels like a crack  and leaks like a crack, then you might have a crack!   Lol!  I wish I’d seen this thread before I saw the “oh the sky is falling” posts over on the friendly forum.  Would have saved me some time from posting why I don’t think it’s a crack.  It doesn’t even look like a crack to me.  Some of the naysayers don’t even own a deus II.

So I have the 11” Deus 2 coil and I must say I’m doing quite well with it even in dense iron and target rich areas. I only extend the lower stem 4” or 5” which keeps it fairly light and balanced. I’m wondering if the use of a coil centering device would be worth getting only for the 11” coil- I wouldn’t bother on the 9” coil which I’m anxious to receive. If anyone has one or tried one can you give me your opinion if it helps or not really worth it? The Deus 2 with 11” coil is absolutely not nose heavy, but I’d consider the centering device worthwhile  if it makes it notably more balanced.   Thanks

Just looking at the pics of the centering devices, it looks to me like it would introduce rotational torque on the coil ears which could eventually fatigue and crack them.  Or maybe the centering device material has enough flex that it “takes up” some of that torque force.

  10. This morning I decided to hit a park the next town over.  I’ve been there twice before, but never got much.  Today was no different.  $1.94 in clad and lots of junk.  On my way home I stopped at my old house permission to see if I could eek out anything good.  First up was part of a silver bracelet.  It’s nice and chunky weighing in at 16.5 grams.  No marks on the piece I got but it’s silver.  Shortly afterwards I got a big signal going up into the low 90s with some iron grunt.  About six inches down I pull out what looked like a lock but it didn’t have a key hole.  After getting home and cleaning it off it’s an old Edwards Mfg Co No Key lock!   What I thought were rivets around the perimeter are little buttons you can still push to one side or the other to set the combination.  I lubed it up and the buttons work.  I’m still reading up on this thing and did find a youtube video of how to figure out the combination, but I’ll have to watch it again as I didn’t follow everything the guy was saying.  Apparently the buttons also rotate and have three equally spaced, very small hash marks that line up with a hash mark on the lock body.  If anyone is familiar with how to open one of these please, by all means let me know.  Lol.

Btw guys my version is 13-01-2022 should I be updating? Version 0.6 13-01-2022 or atleast best I can gather from infos.

Great finds!   Congrats on that dime too!   From what I’ve read and watched in videos and the fact that XP hasn’t given any official notice to update from the 1/13 version, I personally am not going to update.  I’ll wait until they come out with version 0.7 with an official announcement.  And I may just wait and see how that version works before I update.

Took it to a public park/ball field the other day.  Spent about four hours and covered most of the 1st and 3rd baselines.  Picked up 47 quarters, 28 dimes and 27 copper pennies ( 1 Wheat ).  I’m definitely liking this machine, it locks on and gives awesome audio response.  I did get fooled about 7-8 times but I’m just cherry picking signals 89 or higher.

It’s doing fantastic at coin shooting and I’m going to start taking it to the public swimming areas and boat landings in hopes of finding some rings.  I’ve only found one silver dime so far but I guess that’s better then zero.

Congrats on your new machine!   If the sites you’re hunting have a lot of targets you may want to give program 2, sensitive or program 3, sensitive ft a try.  The full tones option really makes the higher conductors stand out for me.  Good luck!
