A few more charge/discharge cycles will get you to the prescribed 8hrs of usage for Deep HC mode, maybe even a few minutes more (I'm tired just thinking about that much time) lol. LiPo batteries do need some break-in to reach full capacity. Happy Finding!

    I’m noticing this also.

I don’t like this design. It looks like it might get in the way of your swing. I got the one on eBay that snaps under the original stand and widens it. It works well and still fits in backpack and doesn’t hit your hip when swinging. Sorry I don’t know how to attach a link.

I never thought about fitting in a backpack.  Thanks for mentioning that as I may order the xp280 backpack sometime in the future.

I noticed the xp stand has little bumps molded into the feet almost as if they made it so an accessory stand could snap onto it.  Is that how yours attaches?

I hunted hard Saturday. I was in a modified Deep High Conductor program most of the time. The coil battery indicator on the remote control started flashing empty after 7 hours and 40 minutes. It didn't die on me but I was tired so it flashing empty was a good reason to stop. All finds are from Saturday except the seated which I found today.  I'm not used to finds like these, I just got lucky and got permission to a good spot.

    Great hunt!!

On the D2, are observation on anything it's doing that is new/improved/different than you other machines?

Right now Cal the biggest advantage for me over the nox is the ergonomics.  Not only is the deus 2 light, it’s also very compact compared to the nox. As far as performance I’m almost positive if I had gotten my nox over any of those targets I dug today, it would have hit on them with good ID.  Especially the two silver coins.   I’m beginning to tune into the deus and one advantage I’m seeing over the nox is being able to tell an aluminum can top from a coin.  Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between the two even raising the coil using the nox.  With the deus however when you raise the coil a coin fades out very quickly.  I’m sure this is due to having the audio response setting on 4.  So yeah, the deus has much, much better audio modulation.  I still have a lot to learn about the audio nuances of the deus.  The other day I was doing some air tests to hear the different tone pitches I had set up in a 5 tone program.  I had a quarter, a nickel, a zinc penny, a rusty nail and I had also grabbed a lead pistol bullet.  I noticed when I passed the bullet and the nickel over the coil they both rang up as 62 which means they both had the same tone pitch.  However to my surprise they sounded quite different. The nickel sounded perfectly “clean” but the  bullet didn’t.  I tried passing the bullet over the coil while changing its position relative to the coil and the closet I could get it to sounding like the nickel was when I had the rounded point of the bullet facing directly at the coil.  I guess this makes sense because the detector is seeing round.  Now if I can only learn to pick up on those nuances in the field.  Lol

  5. I took off work on Friday to see if I could snag some silver with the D2.  I hunted for about 7 hours with 6 of those at the old ballpark where I’ve gotten multiple silvers with the nox.  I hit the area hard with the deus.  I dug mostly silver and nickel signals and a lot of iffy signals just to see what it was, but no silver and only 1 wheatie.  Needless to say I was a little bummed.

Today I got out to my only permission, the old house on 3 acres.  This time I concentrated on a small level field on the other side of the property from the  house. I hadn’t really detected this area much at all just doing an exploratory pass last weekend.  This time I slowed down.  Second target of the day was a nice sweet sounding 91/92 and I figured a silver dime since I have only found one clad coin the entire time I’ve hunted this place.  About 7” down was a 1918d merc.  I stood up and rescanned that spot and about a foot away I get a 59/60.  Turns  out to be a toasted buffalo nickel at the same depth.  Then about three feet away I got a high 80s and out pops a toasted wheat cent.  All three of these were not in the field that’s in the picture, but on the far end to the left.  Once I got in the field I hit a nice high tone reading 94-96.  At about 6” was a 1907d barber quarter.  A couple of feet away was a high 80s and again another toasted wheatie.  In between the wheatie and barber I get a jumpy signal in the 60s and out pops a Wahl Ever Sharp silver plated mechanical pencil!  Now I start gridding that area and about 50 feet away I get a 96/97 and I’m thinking another quarter, but out pops a small sterling ring.  That was about it as I headed back to the car.

Today I was mostly using two custom coin programs I had set up last night.  One was based on park, and the other based on general.  Both with disc at 35, 5 tones with custom tone breaks, reactivity I varied at 1.5-2.5, silencer at 1, sensitivity at 95, audio response at 4.  Park used square and the general used pwm.

Actually, I found it easier to correct when something wrong is causing noise or If want to push it more.

Once You choose the preset with +/- keys, central button is the one to check vertically all you have in it.

Again you can change with +/- the level You like.

Long press of right upper button=noise cancel.

    Short press=GB options

Long press of + lower button=general volume

When the "expert" appears on the left lower part of screen, there are deep settings You can fine tune for tones number, tones kind and filters. It will depend on the program You are ..

    (I never owned an Xp).

I’ll add one more:   Long press of lower left “-“ button also goes to volume settings.  Although I’m right-handed, it’s a nice feature for left-handed users.

Heh, I think I'd gain the interest of the local historical society and various other entities if I was waving something like that around... I think I'll stick to top trolling for the time being. I'm more inclined to go Deus 2, for a geezer like myself that is the next step in avoiding joint issues. 😁

I'm also contemplating adding an older detector like a Tesoro with a concentric. Kinda like how I've found tube amplifiers to be superior to my ears than solid state. 😀

I love my nox, but the new deus is such a joy to swing.  Has Chase let you take a test run with his deus2 yet?Congrats on all the finds!   I’m envious of your site.  Lol

Why would XP give a sensitivity setting of 3? Who knows. But they really messed by making most, if not all programs,  2-3 reactivity when the machine should be set at 0.

I have yet to see anyone show a reactivity of 3 is better than 0.

It's explained very well in the Reactivity section in the user manual.

Several years ago I ran into a guy at the beach who said he dug a roll of half dollars, he pulled them out and showed me.. then he pulled out a old silver dollar and said he found it also.. I would have believed the roll of half's but once he told me about the silver dollar........ 😂

And OC MD gets millions of visitors a year, and I guess anything is possible?

Were the halves still in the paper wrapper?   Lol!

Found it behind the backstop of a softball field. I guess I need to add it to my bucket list so I can cross it off.

Ironically, I’ve been looking for an intact beaver-tail pop top for a long time. I want to show young people how we decorated our dorm rooms with pop top chains back in the Dark Ages.

Congrats!  Before you know it you’ll have enough of those old pulltabs to make another chain!

I’ve already proven that reactivity of 0 in any program finds more items. And I’ve shown why in another video. And I’ve proven it by detecting a roll of quarters in general mode. No one should run reactivity other than 0. And that’s facts.

So, no matter how polluted the site is with iron or aluminum you’re saying to stay with reactivity set to zero?   If that’s what I’m understanding from your quote above, that’s just plain wrong.  Why would XP give you options to adjust the reactivity if like you say “reactivity of 0 in any program finds more items”?  Maybe I’m misunderstanding you and if so I apologize, but to say no one should run reactivity other than 0 is misinformation and could lead someone who’s new to a deus II to get quite frustrated by following what you posted.

And alternate screen display doesn’t help on this regard. Don’t like alternate screen display. With D1 I always put rc in my pocket...D2 is a new toy and during first months checking often the screen, I have noticed that the alternating screen is freaking out, mineralization strength graphic is something disturbing..

I agree.  Today for the first time (because of this thread), I checked the mineralization graph a few times just out of curiosity.  The screen alternates so fast after pumping the coil I barely have time to see the graph much less being able to count the bars to compare to other areas.  Sometimes I may want to post that the area I hunted had “7 bars on the mineralization graph” but it changes so fast I’d have to pump the coil multiple times to be able to count those little bars.

I don’t know what you mean about Faraday having “nothing on this”.  Faraday’s law is the physical principle which makes induction balance detectors possible.  Anyway, neither here nor there.

First of all, not ALL the default programs are set at 2.5 to 3, so let’s not exaggerate to sensationalize your “finding”.  Second, there was a program designed to hit on large high conductors that hit the target just fine at both angles (Deep HC) despite a default reactivity setting of 2 and Disc set at 7.  There was no need to go to “0” (which is not reactivity “off” btw, it’s simply the minimum recovery setting.  Reactivity “off” means the detector could not recover from single target hit, it is nonsensical for a motion based detection scheme in this context).

Finally, as several folks have mentioned, quarter rolls and silver hoards are very uncommon occurrences.  But if you do want to set up specifically for such targets, there is a mode for that that appears to work just fine at the default settings (Deep HC).  For any HC type target you would want to favor lower frequency FMF weightings (e.g., Deep HC or Mono at less than 20 kHz) with reactivity set as low as possible taking into account iron and non-ferrous junk target density as well a minimizing ground noise feedback.  I would personally go with pitch tones and iron volume at a suitable level to make it basically a ferrous/non-ferrous dig it all machine and explore any and every strong  ferrous and non-ferrous hit.

Bottom line: as to your question regarding what it means for other items the ground?  It means you have a very versatile detector and I am sure you are not going to miss much of consequence if you manage to get your coil over a viable target while swinging with the default settings in general mode.

Really not losing sleep over this.

    HTH.

I’m not losing sleep over it either.  I do wonder at times about how many gold rings I’ve passed over because I was too lazy to dig another pulltab. 😂

One thing to keep in mind, yes Jeremy does some entertaining detecting videos, and he's certainly unfiltered, but folks need to keep in mind that he has pretty unique soil.  He's excited if he can hit a 5" deep dime in his soil, he seems to have Culpeper Virginia like soil to deal with.   If it does well in his dirt, it should perform well in complex soil conditions.

I’ve been watching quite a few of paystreak’s videos.  I like him!  He’s definitely unfiltered.  Lol.  His vids look to be unedited and whatever happens, happens.  It’s just him detecting and he knows his machines well.  I get a kick out of the contrast between Paystreak and Gary Blackwell.  It’s like 3 cups of coffee verses smoking a joint.  Lol!

    Its just glued on.

I’m a little leery of “permanently”attaching anything to my detectors.  I could probably remove it with a heatgun if I had to, but I would rather have a mechanical connection rather than glue.  I wonder how it would hold up long term in salt water.  If there’s any ingress into that charging port door I would think the contacts would corrode over time.  However I do like the fact of being able to hunt with a battery pack hooked up to the coil if you had to.  I’m noticing the coil battery loses its charge the fastest of all three components.
