A sweet 5000 in the classifieds.

My $100 ryobi cordless drills have lithium batteries. And the charger shuts them off when full. Can't see the Minelab batteries being any different.

I've noticed in my lifetime of construction. When the Radio is near the cordless battery charger. With no battery in the charger, the reception is fine. When a battery is inserted, and charging ,the reception gets fuzzy. That was one way I knew the batteries with worn or suspect charging ports were actually getting a charge. Sounds funny. But true.

Not too worried about the 4 legged animals while out in the wilderness.
It is the 2 legged ones that I keep a eye out for.

Joining a prospecting and Metal Detecting clubs, groups is also a great way to learn .

JP's tips and advice. This tech paper and some of the manual make the most sense to me.
I have totally wiped the memory slate clean of the GPX and have started reborn with the GPZ.
With experience comes knowledge. I read, read, read. Try to absorb. Then apply it with hands on.
Thank you Steve, JP and all with the helpful knowledge.

Makes me wonder why this didn't comenout with the owners manual. And with this technical paper, there is not much need for the manual. Except for the mapping aspect.

When is bought the sdc2300. I didn't have a cover at first. So I bought some 4" wide Gorilla tape, self sticking Velcro, and the non slip rug underlayment. It worked very well. Wasn't the most beautiful (like Klunker) but very effective in protecting the machine.

I like looking for old things. Like Fossils. I found this old fossil in my area named Klunker. I always ask him for advice.
But I think he sends me on wild goose chases.

Well. Going for dowsing rods. Lol. If you are ever at the Forks of the Salmon. Tell my friends at the store. Mark and Peggy hello.

You live in a beautiful area. Nice gold. Welcome aboard.

I don't know anything about these detectors. But I do want to sit around a few campfires with Nugget Bob.

Im all for a JP locked thread. Where he can give us straight up insight and tips. Without the negativity and wingnuts crying for a wambulance. It is good to have constructive criticism. But it seems to go further than that at times. Thanks JP for all you do.

I have some Danner hikers. Metal eyelets. Never bothered the GPX5000. Just wondering how they might react to the GPZ7000?
-
Where can one purchase metal free boots? And how many of you detectorists wear them?
-
Pinpointing with the GPZ7000. How is the Zed at pinpointing? Any major or subtle differences with the Super D coil?

How was the speaking engagement last night? A receptive audience?

Norm, Did a internet search. I wish I could help more. But maybe this is a lead for you?

Anyone tried it on Basalt yet?

Minelab is reading this. Us clients, need to have them on the red phone hotline. We need accessories that work well for us. That work for our bottom line as well as theirs. What works in the bush of Australia might not work so well in the mountains of Northern California. We need well designed product's for us.

You need to go to the archive's here. Steve give plenty of info to make informed choices. The sdc2300 is a PI. The Eureka Gold is a VLF. Both great detectors. So you will half to decide what kind of soil you will mostly be wanting to detect for gold in? If the ground is mild, a vlf will probably work. If the ground (soil) is hot ( mineralized) then a PI is a better choice.
Hope that helps.
