Welcome! HH jim tn

Welcome, and I believe you picked a pretty good support group. I have had this problem for 50 + years, though, and not getting any better. So, good luck! HH jim tn

Yeah, that's a nice recovery and the ashes in the gold piece make it rather unique. I'm happy when ever I see gold, as usually I'm expecting a nickel/pull tab, or zinc or copper cent. I am a turf hunter, though. HH jim tn

No Manticore in my arsenal yet, but welcome to the forum. Is some good info down on the Minelab forum on the Manticore that you may find helpful if you haven't seen it yet. Good luck and again, welcome. HH jim n

There are two gold refineries that currently have a good reputation. ARA in Dallas, and Midwest Refineries up in Wisc or Mich, I believe. Both have been paying 90 % + for gold and a little less for silver. I used ARA a few years ago and was pleased and plan to use them within the next week or so. When I last used them they removed the stones and returned them to me. Not being a water hunter, I don't find many gold rings with diamonds. I find mostly mens bands and class rings. I have not had good luck with gold and silver testing kits. The solutions seem to deteriorate with age rather quickly. I've worked up a relationship with a jewelry store that tests jewelry free for me. I toss him a bone now and then and sell him a piece at his low price compared to the refineries. Good luck! Welcome! Well, once you fire that Manticore up and make that first recovery, you join the ranks of many that have been thrilled as well as humbled and a simply great hobby. HH jim tn

Welcome! Both of our states have some wonderful history and of course, you also have good beaches. Detecting is good for your health and great for a retiree. Good luck! HH Jim Tn

Welcome, someone hopefully will chime in from your area and give you some guidance for locations. You have, though, taken up a great hobby. HH jim tn

A piece of silver is always good. If there is one, there is probably another. Good luck! HH jim tn

Welcome aboard. Those are some outstanding finds you've shown us. I have a feeling many of us could learn a lot from you! HH Jim Tn

Welcome to a great forum and while there are plenty of tips to be found, there is nothing like "hands on Learning" yourself. Put the time in, dig a bunch of targets and have at it and have fun. The Equinox will find you plenty of treasure right out of the box. Enjoy, detecting has helped keep me healthy now for over 50 years. HH Jim Tn

That's enough silver to break a neck. Good job on both the gold and silver. HH Jim Tn

Nice work! For only being at it a few months, looks pretty outstanding to me. HH Jim Tn

Welcome from west Tennessee. Glad you found this forum, its a good one. I mainly coin, relic and jewelry hunt, pretty much in that order. How about you? HH Jim Tn

A true detecting legend. RIP, Monte. HH Jim Tn

Glad you (took) the chance to experience White River trout fishing. Trout fished up there several times over the years. The Little Red has some good trout fishing, too. I seldom fish in Tn anymore. In fact, 3 sons and I are going to Greers Ferry lake early Wed. and return Sun. Nice write up and pictures. HH jim tn

I'm just glad I don't have friends like his. Well, we wouldn't be friends long, I guess. HH Jim Tn

Welcome from your neighbor to the north. Both our states boast of some pretty good history. Good luck in yours. HH jim tn

There are a number of factors that come into play, but I have a few spots in my local that I started hunting on about 1980 and continue to frequent on occasion to this day. Every time I purchase a new detector with fresh technology, I will give some of these spots a try.
I hunt every day, weather permitting, early mornings averaging four hour hunts. From Aug of 2021 to June of 2022 I hunted an old golf course that was closed for renovation. That is the only local site I hunted for that entire time frame. It, however, unbeknown to anyone, had seen Civil War activity and making recoveries of bullets, buttons, 2 plates, 2 Spanish Reales, half dimes, U S large cents, Seated coins and more modern era cents and silver coins was more then enough incentive to hunt it as often as I did. A golf course, naturally, is many acres in size and size and results thus are a couple of the factors that come into play for determining how long I spend with a spot. HH jim tn

All I have to say is that you are very handy with a screw driver..I don't know if I can dig out 9" deep coin with a probe or screw driver. 3-4 inches no problem...nice shooting there Jeff

Keep digging and learning. In the mean time, the more targets you dig, the more you improve your odds of finding gold...and silver. Good luck! HH jim tn
