  1. Yes, it is true and that's what the system does to distinguish iron to non-iron. Every non-iron targets are to be dig out indeed, including the many scraps of lead, bronze or brass found everywhere.
  2. Le Jag never implied that there was a target ID (VDI) on the Impulse AQ. All the video sessions have shown the IRON REJECTION in one of the two disc modes; no more, no less. Indeed, in TONE mode, a gold target gives a HIGH PITCH sound and ferrous target gives a LOW PITCH sound. In MUTE mode, the ferrous targets give NO SOUND and non-ferrous targets give HIGH PITCH sound. The only non-ferrous targets shown have always been GOLD JEWELRY , no coin of any type. It is also what is specified on the 'flyer '
  3. Tested many types of earmuff. This OEM type coming from Switzerland were the best fit and the sturdiest mechanical design. Internal mechanism = pure FTP-based design (Alexandre)
  4. I wonder who has written this strange message❓❓❓ Anyway, there are not so many readers of that page, so, who cares!!
  5. Alexandre has already searched for that and he did not find any good one. The best bet is to use a converter 12V DC to 110V AC (do you call it an inverter?)
  6. What you call the display unit is also the control unit containing all active electronics. There is nothing more in the battery pod than the battery pack and connections. There is a multi-wire cable coming from the enclosure through the handle and the upper shaft and connected to the connector at the end of the shaft (filled at the back with epoxy)

  8. No mystery in the battery pod. Just the battery pack with their integrated charge management, no audio amplifier.
  9. Indeed, there will not be any transferable warranty on used Impulse AQ LTD systems. Future users would probably not be made aware of or agree on the famous ''Buyer Disclosure'.
  10. Yes, I understood you very well. I just wanted people to compare with the new video's that Alexandre is doing right now. Indeed, this topic will serve as container for the future ones.
  11. Alexandre will redo ASAP the old video's he did on a French beach years ago, this time using a production version of the iMPULSE AQ LTD.(Yes, he has finally got a real one back from FTP😉) They were made in French and at best, in approximate English and commented in good English by Rick who published them on this forum and others. Look below. I am sure you know most of them. You will see how much the Impulse AQ LTD has progressed since the time these video's were made and published. These video should be considered just as examples of what the system is able to do, not polished marketing demo made by professionals. There could be a few depth and disc comparisons depending on availability of competitor beach units We expect many more coming from the early adopters. They will probably made with more professional expertise and material. 12. Joe, Epoxy will prevent water to enter through the cable entry but not between the male and female pins if not correctly mated. Some people fill the female pins with silicone grease before mating. That type of grease has very good dielectric capabilities and it repels water.
  13. Lack of conservatism and over-optimism on depth specs have generated in the past many returns due to leakage on waterproof units. Lesson learned at FTP!! The initial design of Impulse AQ was to completely fill the enclosure and battery pack with SELF-HEALING NON-CONDUCTIVE GEL, thus, giving 100% guarantee against any leakage. This design has been rejected because of the extra weight due to the gel. Now, the covers of the enclosure and battery pack as well as the back of all external connectors are sealed with hard EPOXY.--> Same 100% leakage-free guarantee. Weak points are the M8 connectors spec'd as IP68 but are not waterproof when UN-MATED. This is a common problem in all these connectors. However, the potential water ingress is only limited to the external pins of the connectors thanks to the epoxy filling. It remains that salted water is very conductive, thus can generate short-circuits on power circuits. All types of industrial battery are now supplied with an integrated protection circuit against inverse polarity, over-charging and over-current, they just detect that and automatically disconnect. The unit will not power up or will shut down. The risk of connector flooding is still there but with minimized consequences on the health of the unit. The operator manual of the Impulse AQ LTD will STRONGLY advise users to be very careful when mating the power and headphone connectors. The final solution will suppress the external power circuit cable and connectors on the Impulse AQ.
  14. The electronic circuits in the enclosure are also well protected by EPOXY filling.
  15. Hi folks, I am an old Belgian Engineer who is related to the Impulse Series projects being part of what is named the EUROTEAM as Senior Consultant. However, not at all on the payroll of FTP I am delighted to find a forum with such reasonable contributors (with a few exceptions😢) and such a good administrator!! I volunteer to help answering some of the many questions occurring on this topic and on all the topics of this very forum related to the Impulse Series. That does not imply that I am a detectorist in any way, I just have a good experience with archaeological work using scoop, brush and sweat but also, accessorily, metal detectors. When you put your hands on this unit, you should not attempt any opening of the enclosure nor the battery pod, they are completely sealed with hard EPOXY. This guarantees their watertightn'ess. If anyone would insist doing it, there are very good chances that some non repearable damage will occur. Nothing mysterious about those M8 connectors. Not proprietary at all. Alexandre can surely publish the internal connections if asked politely😉. You just need to replicate the connections of the power cable if you want to replace it for any good or bad reason Make sure the polarities are correct otherwise, BAAAMMM!!!! It is even possible to extend the length of the power cable in order to mount the battery packs at the hip.
