  1. Seems to be a new phenomenon with some newer phones. It's just been the last year to year and a half that I've had the Excal do a warble on a few phones that pass me on the beach. I don't have a phone, so it isn't me talking to the detector. With the AQ, at some point we will get a report on whether or not it crackles or alerts to lightning. I actually like it when that mode of interference is evident. It tells me to take a good look at the sky and most probably pack up or shelter until the weather passes.
  2. I've had the Excal start a little talk when someone on a phone walked by close; not every one with a phone, only a few. This past Christmas to New Years trip to Myrtle Beach, there was one woman who did a lot of walking. Every time she walked past when I was using the Excal, it would warble. I should have stopped her and asked what kind of phone she had. Had not had that happen with other detectors. Excal, Sand Shark and HH Pulse were very good at giving little crackles in the headset when distant lightning was firing off. CZ did not give me lightning warning that it was time to pack it up and not be a lightning rod.
  3. Rick, I fully appreciate that it is a completely thankless process to have to dole out such a limited supply. I'm glad it is not I who has that job. Two questions, that I don't really expect firm answers to real soon, are: Does the not limited version (with battery cables not hanging out) have an anticipated release date? If so, when? As a beloved boss I had about 40 years ago said when he saw great work "keep up the fair work"! Cheers, tvr
  4. So far every report is making it look like a detector to have. Great report. I hate those aluminum can tops that seem to survive well past the rest of the can. Seems to be a lot of them in the bay and tributaries. Flag Ponds is really littered with them.
  5. Crab pot pieces are perfect. A few years back I posted of a ring lost on a private pier. A young lady was pulling up a crab pot and she felt and saw it fly off. Well the rest of the story is that I've been there a few times and it is littered with crab pot pieces and nails from a deck replacement. All metal and dig the junk out was the only option but there is so much junk that I felt all I was accomplishing was to let the ring drop deeper into dug holes. So far I have not been able to get a tone other than iron tone / null depending on detector I've tried with. This is one of the very few lost rings I've chased with an excellent account of where it was lost within a square yard or two. Young lady was upset when it was lost, but is no longer with the fellow. She has more recently said that if it is ever found and she sees it, she will grab it, get on a jet ski and throw it out in the shipping channel where it won't be found. If the see through of the AQ in tone or mute is sufficient, then it may help in this ring's scenario.
  6. Thanks for the update Rick! Four limited production detectors in the field. It is a start. And those four are in good hands for sure.
  7. Always great videos OBN. Two things I can think of that I would like to see: 1) A test with the same set up shown in the video but with an arrangement of nails on the surface similar to Monte's nail board test. With the gold ring at some depth, can it be detected through the nail field without just all metal detecting the nails too? I've seen the videos of nails placed on top of a ring and it being detected clearly, but that is not what I'm looking to discover. 2) I spend the great majority of beach hunting in all metal, and when there is iron in the area, I like to have an easy switch to do an iron check on the target. Most places when in the water, the switch has to be done blindly, you know how that is! With the AQ, what mode would be the best to do a quick check against all metal response; and would you like that as an easy push button or toggle feature? OK so it was really three questions. Good to see there is more information coming out.
