Ah ... my experience is not with directly connecting my hearing aids to a detector!  I've yet to delve into the intricacies of the electronic shortcut.

Years ago I was using a Garret one night and I didn't make it off the beach with it.  I'm going to attach this F-Pulse.

We started our morning with low clouds and high ones, then it was fog.  I changed my location from Gatesville to Hillsboro and we had a great time in the downtown square.  The skies changed to partly cloudy and added character to the viewing.

I haven't reviewed my pictures yet but I'll post a couple when I get back to California.

How many times have we said on Detector Prospector that improvements in detectors have been marginal?  First Texas is out to prove it.

Buy one of their 'effective' older detectors or buy one of the 'new and improved' from someone else.

When I started detecting in 2010, I joined a couple of clubs and bought a Minelab 5000.  One of the guys in one of the clubs was a Fisher Dealer.  A few years later we ended up buying a Gold Bug Pro.  Steve had the Gold Bug Pro on one of his short lists of detectors to have for many years!  We found gold with it.  It took me a while to find gold with the 5000 but I did of course.

The President of one of the clubs I joined still uses a Gold Bug to this day.  He had it modded years ago but for him it still works.  

When I read about 'What is Fisher doing?' I'd say they are now selling effective detectors at effective prices.  I hope this doesn't portend their end in the detector business, but it does reflect some of the true manufacturing costs and shows us what direct to consumer prices are.

They don't need to add a big R&D percentage to the costs.  The amount of improvement they will get over their 'effective' line is marginal.

I haven't looked.

We hunted Saffordites all day and enjoyed it.  We got a few.

On to Deming tomorrow and the museum for geodes and Carlsbad Caverns.

I don't like recommending coils for people though, as my soil conditions being mild maybe very different to someone elses, I just know what works best for me, best thing to do is ask around, far more 15" CC users than 8" users though, most don't care enough about finding the tiny bits to justify an 8" when the 15" is close but deeper on all else.

I have a 15" CC and it was recommended by Simon.  I have complete confidence in it when running it at 18 sensitivity/high yield/normal.  I can go to mineralized areas and hot rock areas and just know what I'm hearing.  The coil was actually of enough weight I used it this past year to work a patch that had dried brush on it.  I could push it down with the coil and know where I had been.  I had 6000s work before and after me in some cases and I think it was mostly first one there.  I didn't think it was worth going over the patch again.  My trip to a similar area this week with a 6000 user showed similar results.  We both found meteorites.

I've got a good bungee system or I would consider the lighter detectors ... when I go with my wife she needs something better than the 2300 form factor.  I hope she likes the Algo.

Now the prediction is for clear skies on Monday for the area!  Let's hope.

There is one additional layer to all of these cookies.  The government can request the info whenever they want.  Google will give them your search and video watch list.

They also store the internet metadata in Utah and elsewhere.  So, when they tell us that in an investigation that data has been lost or can't be retrieved ... there is a copy and for some reason it will not be made available.

We are going to Safford to look for fire agates and Saffordites and then on to Carlsbad Caverns.  Then if it is clear some place we will attempt to get there with all the others.

Ok, let's make up a ridiculous scenario.

What if you had a new $100,000 detector that could find .001 g of gold in a nail bed and you had been trained on it.  It is not known to be very much deeper than existing detectors.  You also had a turn on and go detector like a Gold Monster.  You read the instructions and you detected samples for about 30 minutes.

Someone you know gives you a choice of taking the Gold Monster to a private claim that is still giving up 1 and 2 gram nuggets or taking the $100,000 detector to Rye Patch or another 'beat up' claim, what would you choose?

Would you take the pointy finger or the detector with training?

The idea that gold patches we hunt now were caused by different falls seems to be unfounded.  😁

I just came back from a trip to Gold Basin.  As we know there are meteorites there.  I found one about 80 grams.

When it was washed off and brushed I could see some tiny yellow shinny spots.  I've found lots of Gold Basins but I don't remember and of them with gold in them so I did a search.  That search introduced me to a concept that many have that much of our mineable metals, including gold came to earth with meteor showers.  If true this could explain a lot of unexplainable patches in different areas.

Gerry's crew (I had a lesson from Lunk before I took Gerry's course) taught me more about machines than any other course.  It gets you confident in your equipment which is essential.  Gerry's training area is Rye Patch so you learn some about the ground and how to read it there.

Ray Mills gives you tour with his course.  There is a certain amount of assumption that you know how to use your detector well enough to find gold.  There are turn it on and go detectors that will find it if it is there but you need to be able to read the land.

Chris Ralph's readings are good at showing you how to read the land.

While I've not taken a formal course of Kevin Hoagland he has taught me a lot about the 5000 and how to read ground.

I'm short on time this morning and I'd tell you something good about all of them.  More later ...

Now, what do you do after training?  That is another topic but more than ever you have to use what you have been taught and get lucky.  Both of those take TIME.

Time now should be spent with someone who has a pointy finger who needs a hunting partner.  I think most of us would go more if we had a hunting partner.  I did when I had a good one.  We pushed each other and shared with each other.

Don't let politics or personal issues get in between you and your hunting partner.  You will have idle time where you share and that could let strong feelings bubble to the surface.  Detectorists like us can be a hardheaded lot.  

Gold can do strange things to us as well.  Be careful out there.

I'm in Gold Basin.  We spent yesterday looking for gold and meteorites.  nada between the 3 of us using x-coil, 6000 and 2300.  I'll admit it wasn't full day on all 3 but we went at it for over 6 hours on 4 different locations where gold and meteorites have been found before.

If I was bringing someone new with me I wouldn't expect the results to be different but there is always beginning 'luck!'

Things are much harder to find.  I need someone to show me spots.  haha

I should have added that the expensive hearing aids didn't really fit.  They kept falling out of my ears so while they sound better they function poorly.

I'm expecting the Algo to 'function' as Norvic has said.  The video shows that its form factor can find small gold and has coil options.   Those things exceed choices available to higher priced detectors and they can make up for differences in amplified sound.  

This video in a way mirrors my experience with hearing aids.  The $5000+ hearing aids sound better than the $1700 ones!  Are they worth it?  In the right circumstances you would say yes.
