Good point, but how do you find out?

Simply type in almost any search engine "hard to find rare costume jewelry", and it should give some good pointers.

More of the valuable items will have a makers mark on them and you can then you will be able to judge what they are worth.

I have seen my grandfather get over $1,000 for a broach that I thought was total junk, but it was a very rare item.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Great find on the ring and hopefully the ring can be rejoined to the person who actually lost it. You may want to check with the county court house or newspaper and locate some records as to who the peoples names are. That way it can be given to one of their children or grand children.

Best of luck in this new year and stay safe out there.

I happen to live in a very old part of the country,

Thanks for the encouragement and I get it. Just a few more years til I can retire and not have to worry about much to be able to detect and look for gold on a regular basis.

But I do have to say that my dirt around here should be just as old as the dirt where you are at, even though I am on a different time zone as you.

Good luck in this new year and take care of yourself.

  4. It just amazes me as to just how good the 2 of you are with detectors, and hit the best finds that anyone could ever expect to dig.

Wish you the best of luck this year to exceed what you have done this past year.

When I finally get time to use my detector again I just hope that I can find anything half as good as the both of you.

    Stay safe and stay warm.

You’re right… good way to help out!

The land owner came by and asked if I would be willing to use my metal detector to locate another piece of the meteorite that is missing from it. I told him that when I get over a bad cold I would come by.

His daughter that is attending college took it to school and it was confirmed to be real.

  6. I am hoping that everyone had a safe New Year celebration and that they remain safe during this new year.

May all find their treasures and may all find their peace.

    Good luck and good hunting.

  7. When I first picked up a detector I had a strange pattern that I was using, it was a figure 8 and I sometimes hit my head with the coil. Then when I was around 10 my grandfather taught me to keep the coil level with the ground and to go side to side. I swung the coil at a steady pace, not to fast and not to slow, and was finding all sorts of stuff.

I guess when a person is finding things they are looking for when they are detecting properly they just get hooked on detectors.

There is no one way to swing a detector, but it is better to keep it near the ground.
