Now that's funny! I remember once sitting on a 5 gallon bucket and it broke. No harm done, but it must have looked real silly.

I have to say that I got you beat on that.

I was out panning in a nearby creek with my girlfriend sitting on a 5 gallon bucket in the creek. About 45 minutes had passed when my pants were getting wet and almost to my waist band. The bucket had sank in the ground during that time period without me even noticing it. My girlfriend was laughing the whole time, but we still came back with almost 15 grams of gold.

Remind him not to break the meteorite, it’s worth more that way! 😉

What an interesting find, any photos and has it hit the local news yet?  Keep us posted!

Well it's like pulling teeth on a chicken, he  is afraid that if he reports it the State will tell him to turn it over to them. He sort of hates the government here in Illinois. I wanted to take photo's of it when I saw it but he told me not to at this time. People like him you really want him to share the information when they are comfortable to do so.

Have you reported it on the site I linked?  (Takes five reports to make the list.)

I don't understand the pencil sized hole in a meteorite.  It does make me wonder if it could be a piece of human created (now) space junk.

I passed that information to the land owner and told him to report it, and to find out more about the meteorite check into the nearby college. I will ask him again to do a report on it.

That's quite an opportunity VL, I hope you'll be bringing your gear (and picnic basket) with you on your world tour. Check the detecting laws for Norway and find yourself a hot spring to detect or something. 😀 And a couple snow bunnies to help ya dig. 😁

Sorry I will not be taking equipment with me to Norway, it will be to cold and I really don't want to have it slow me down. Should I get a chance to detect in one of those European countries I would be around there for a month, and I simply don't have that much time to spend there.

Now when I go to Australia  that might be another thing as I am hoping to have enough time to hit a couple of areas.

Also I can't risk the snow bunnies as my girlfriend is going along.

  5. John, I have been watching this thread because of your work on the fines and the way you have been sluicing the rivers. I hope to someday to see you make a video of the equipment that you made to be able to sluice the way you do. Should you do that I would be very grateful for the knowledge as I am still young and want to learn as much as I can about this field. I know how to pan and some sluicing from my grandfather. I would like to know how to build the gear that you use and to be able to go out there and do what you have done.

Thank you for bringing new light to this type of gold hunting and showing us what a person can get if they try.

    Caleb

  6. Nice setup that seems to be able to go all day with, but I have to have an extra pouch for the necessities. You know the smokes, the sunglasses, something to drink, and also a picnic basket for when I need a break. Just kidding about the basket.

I will be getting out there again for a few days before taking off to Norway in January, then off to Australia.

That will be for new gear for work so all expenses are paid by the company.
