  1. @Steve Herschbach “Almost sounds like Fisher is liquidating all the older models - hope something new is coming to replace them and it's not a getting out of the detector business sale. Has a cash flow desperation feel to it.”

That is bang on the nail, that is what i have been saying for well over a year,me thinks things at Fisher are not all that healthy and even with this pruning of inventory i dont think they will survive.....of course time will tell and its a good time for us as detectorist and the bargains that we can grab.

Of course i hope that i am seriously wrong but but gut feeling tells me that i am not.

  2. I personally love and use the XP MI-6,you can get the lesser spec one ie the XP MP-4 which does not connect to the Deus,so as you have mentioned you dont require a Bluetooth connection then XP MP-4 would be my recommendation because i use one, cannot suggest any rechargeable pinpointers as i have never used others.

I am not surprised at all,i mentioned in a earlier post i doubt it would reach less than half that amount, you could see that it was being promoted to be something rather special which incidentally in my mind its not.

Anyway it will probably be re-admitted into another auction and we will see it being promoted again, even with the current high price of gold its still not worth the investment into it.

I needed a fix.......................picked up for myself a nice Tesoro Eldorado umax and Bandido II umax. Both work perfectly.

Sven, great to see you back out again and posting and with your trusty Tesoro machines,i totally agree with you about getting the fun back again in detecting as with all these modern machines they can take away the enjoyment.

  5. Have been trying a few permutations of harness and bungee combinations mainly on my GPX with the 18'' Coiltek Elite Mono coil on,and finally settled on a combination that i feel works well for me.I tried 2 full harness setups ie the Minelab one and a similar after market one and they do work ok of a fashion, but i hate being all trussed up like a chicken with all the cables and straps etc,yes it works well but i just hate using this setup.

So finally settled for a over the shoulder strap marketed by various companies i think Garrett also do one, attached to the centre of balance of the GPX shaft,i have a Docs gold screamer battery pouch coming so that will alleviate the heavy car battery from the waist pouch and thus far it works exceptionally well,i tried it with the 18'' Coiltek coil on and it can/could be swung all day without any major fatigue and also relatively comfortable as well.....i have tried the hipstick setup stup with a full GPX harness and it does work extremely well but i hate using a full harness.

So finally found a harness and bungee setup that works well for me,it took a while to find the ideal setup for my rig but well pleased with the finally setup.

  6. Good afternoon Folks,i am trying to reduce all the allied wires etc connected on my GPX4500,the specific project is using cordless headphones, have been looking at the Garrett setups but i am looking at getting possibly a full days use out of the headphones and the Garrett setup does seem to be the current way forward.Does anyone use these on the GPX or can anyone suggest possibly another setup.

Looking at also doing away with the GPX bloody great car battery setup but Docs screamer would be ideal but they dont deliver here to the UK,i have the option of this setup but its complete but without the pouch for carrying the batteries and amp,so basically stuffed on the part of my GPX setup. So just currently working on the cordless headphones.

Another thing i am currently working on is doing away with the GPX full harness and using the over the shoulder strap at the moment and that is also making headway as i hate wearing a full harness and battery and all the wires from the amp,the strap can certainly carry the weight of a GPX with my 18'' Coilek Mono Elite coil,so making headway with the full harness.

Any suggestions/advice or help would be most welcome,if only getting Docs screamer battery setup would be alot easier but alas he wont post to the UK due to the batteries.

I expect that on those sites that have been hit hard that the big mono is the way to go. On the real deep stuff the iron reject isn’t going to work anyway on stuff that’s 12+ inches deep.

Tyler, exactly and also i am not in theory after the very small items like bird shot etc and i totally agree that DD only in theory work upto a few inches and i want pure depth hence the larger Mono coils,i was lucky to get the brand new Coiltek 18'' Elite camo coil for well under half price,so that made the decision for me really the 'reward to investment' in that coil increased in my favour.

The GPX was never going to be my main everyday deep hitter as i leave that to other VLF detectors like my Nexus machines which do have discrimination,if i start picking up vibes that a possible hoard is on a site then i will bring a few machine both Pulse and VLF with large coils for that specific job.Of course this is just my way of tackling said job and increasing the odd's in my favour.

The GPX as mentioned before wont come out to play all that often during the year as in my mind its a highly specialised machine, but when i do think that a site has some serious potential then all it takes is just one decent hoard find to pay for the initial investment which was not a massive amount anyway as i done some selective and gained some amazing kit for not a big outlay.

  8. For hoard/Relic hunting i mainly use the Coiltek 18'' Elite Mono on my 4500,its not as heavy as i thought it would be and after i ordered it i was wondering if i had made a very expensive mistake, that is not the case and made the right decision for sure,my No1 Choice was the Detech 15'' Spiral DD but although its a big favourite of many folks the weight was going to be the deciding factor and the Coiltek won the day.

Yes i am aware that the question was mainly related to larger DD coils and i can for the most part only post what i find related to larger Mono coil,i do have both 15x12 Commander coils but never use them and they just sit in a cupboard gathering dust.

  9. I cannot comment on the F75 but 'boy oh boy'  do i love using my old T2 in AM mode, had this detector since they arrived on these shores back in 2006/7 and with the NEL Sharpshooter coil on is a deadly combination, due to a very good deal in the last  months i got another T2+ with boost mode and that also has a Sharpshooter coil.

My all time favourite detector and found me more gold hammered and milled coinage than all my other detectors put together.

  10. I recently purchased the Detech 11'' DD AI coil for my 4500,as yet not done any serious detecting with it as i mainly purchased it for one roman trading villa site which is right next door to a massive pumping station, also have the Coiltek 6'' Mono...but the coil that i have been using the most on the GPX is the Coiltek 14x9 Mono its as light as anything because its foam filled and that mainly stays on the detector almost all the time.

The truth is that for VLF all the top detectors are quite capable. The main difference will be the operator expertise and most importantly, the quality of the location being hunted.

Must admit i totally agree with you 100% on that statement, some of my detectors especially my T2 are 17 years old but that detectors has found me more hammered and milled gold coins than all my other machines put together,it must be about one of the simplest machines to operate.

I would be most surprised if it gets half the suggested price, they are trying very hard to increase the exposure of this nugget, was it even found in that location no one will ever have any idea so we have just take it as gospel.I am not doubting it just clarifying my comment 🙂

Equinox 800 has two different Park modes. Which one were you using? Park 2 with all targets accepted would be better than Park 1 since Park 2 has a higher frequency weighting close to 39 kHz and would be my choice if I was testing for various gold targets with many different sizes.

Deus 2 FMF Park mode has a maximum frequency of 24 kHz and has target IDs 23 to 35 notched out by default. Smaller gold targets like chains and micro gold jewelry may have some target IDs in that notched out range and 24 kHz max may not be high enough. I would use one of the Sensitive programs for gold jewelry testing and remove any notches, even 00 to 00 before starting the test.

Jeff, some very interesting information regarding Park 2 prog, thanks for sharing that snippet. Thanks again
