I just wish Minelab would give in, disable the chip and let the aftermarket coil manufacturers go for gold on the 7000.

That will never happen as it would most likely effect 6000 sales drastically & SDC 2300 to a certain extent. Although the 6000 would rob many 2300 sales these days I would think. But like you say, Our ground being very mild it isn't a level playing field compared to overseas areas of hot ground & that is where the 2300 appears to do well.

Minelab play their cards to mine the miners these days & not give them an easy, "cheaper" alternative. Like aftermarket coils. Unlike the earlier GP GPX days.

Had to walk about 40m to get to water so it lost its appeal quite quickly. Here’s the result. I was quite impressed. If I was keen, I could classify a few buckets and have a play in the water. The problem with doing that is detecting time would suffer. So maybe not just yet. Lol.

Only 40 meters??!! I reckon you were lucky to have any water for miles. Sounds like you need to set up a highbanker or dry washer & work that ground. If you were impressed by what you got in a pan imagine what an hour or two through a highbanker or dry blower will produce.

  3. You think they would have corrected the copy & paste if it is not correct. They must know about it by now. Makes it false advertising & misleading people into getting something they are not, as in this case here. Not good enough. Or is it on purpose???

  4. Only yesterday I came across some you tube footage of the Christchuch Earthquake of 14 years ago here in New Zealand.

While I was living at the time no where near I had friends who were among it while ruble was falling. Crazy insane time as there were many many after shocks with one a few months later, while not the strongest on the Richter scale was the most devastating & greater loss of life.

What people went through destroyed many emotionally & financially. The lived on the edge of fear every day with the relentless after shocks not knowing when one would be the killer blow. That came but who knew?. No power, water, sewerage etc. Liquid faction bubbling up from the water table flooding many areas. Many people left the district & understandably so. Of course insurance companies screwed over many destroyed & desperate people just to add more woes to their shattered lives. It was disgraceful.

To see you post this, again took me back to Chch but then to see snow in your post that was one thing Chch didnt have. Thank goodness.

The 8" coil is my favourite of the smaller coils, being the smallest, more of a specialty coil as you're not going to cover ground with it, but it's ideal in this situation you're in there and I would not be at all surprised if it picked out gold you're currently missing with both combinations.  A compromise is the 10" as it gets a more normal ground coverage with just a little less sensitivity which of course means a little less depth on the smallest bits but a bit more depth on bigger bits but even coils like the 15" Concentric are very competitive with the 8" on small gold, only falling slightly behind more similar to the 10" while providing plenty of other benefits and would be my overall pick of coils.

If only Minelab made more coils for the 7000, or at least sanctioned other brands to do so to make them more mainstream I think these 6000/7000 comparisons where people favour the 6000 by a large degree on smaller gold would largely disappear.

That 8" would be the Russian made X coil which needs the adapter to run on the 7000.

The 7000 picked up 3 signals in close proximity to each other and were recovered from good depth.

That was my point. The 7000 is king for depth. The 6000 is deadly on the small shallowish stuff but loses its punch for depth quickly. Going from a banger of a signal to dropping off very quickly. You have to have a very keen ear & be on your game to catch those very faint whispers that are deeper down with the 6000, but they are there. Same old scenario though, one detector doesn't do it all so the 6000 & 7000 complement each other. You are on to it.

On another note gold has broken through the NZ$3,700 mark. Actually NZ$3,738 an ounce. Happy days. No wonder Pioneer Pauly has been coming over here making a pig of himself on our gold. He loves the place.

You could see in that you were used to using the 6000, leaving the Zeds coil way too close to the dig hole setting it off all the time digging🙂

You can get away with doing that with the 6000, but not the GPZ.

In all fairness the pick is a large target for the GPZ 7000 & as we know the 7000 is king when it comes to larger targets at depth. He also had moved that rock that he got the signal from with the 7000. Had he moved the rock & then waved the 6000 over it I am sure he would have got that signal with it. So did he really get a scrap the 6000 missed? He didn't give it a chance & should have waved the 6000 over it after moving the rock so I am not a believer. He also should have waved the 6000 over the ground he had cleared for the 7000, maybe he did but he didn't say, but most likely waved the 7000 over it & only got that signal he showed after moving that rock. I would definitely believe he could have got a bigger bit of gold at depth with the 7000 that the 6000 wouldn't have got.

How many of you have got gold from moving a rock/rocks no matter what detector you are using? All of you I bet.

Thanks Erik. I’ve never been very comfortable with praise so I’m squirming a bit at the moment. The fact is I learned a great deal from others and did well, and this website was designed as being a way to give back. I taught a lot of people how to nugget detect giving classes in Alaska and nothing gave me more pleasure than seeing those people find their first gold nugget. It’s great that you and your son are able to connect via gold prospecting. So while my first instinct is to blow this off with a self-deprecating joke, I think in this case I’ll just say thank you.

Nice Steve, but Eric is correct in what he says.

  9. I had a feeling that 2nd piece was way more than a couple of grams. Nice find. I was quite surprised how close your pick was lying on the ground next to some of your digs & the detector wasn't nutting off. Wouldn't get away with that with the 6000. Not in our quiet ground & higher end settings here in New Zealand.

    Thanks for sharing.

  10. For me the use of a drone is for searching for old timer workings in steep rugged country for gold detecting purposes. That saves me the effort of walking into such terrain only to find I wasted my time & energy if nothing is there. I often just do a Google Earth fly over but a drone you have control over for closer, clearer footage pin pointing spots & also access into those spots. You just need to be careful you don't drop the drone out of sight down a gully because if you cant have line of sight of the drone then the drone cant see you & you can/will lose signal & could be bye bye drone. Crash & burn. Return to base may kick in & save you, or not.

  11. Technology seems to be heading for smaller gold but deeper down. Is there enough small gold to make it pay for those chasing the money from gold found? Maybe. Bit of a catch 22. You got to be in the game to find out. There are some GPX 6000 users that think so. Involves a lot more effort & digging though.

I think we will see target ID on all PI's in the future, why leave it out when it can be so useful, I just don't get why it was left out so long when they were experimenting with it so long ago.

Because at the end of the day when chasing gold the only way to know for sure what the signal really is, is to dig it regardless of what numbers are telling you. That means digging all signals, like it has been for decades.

I think the algoforce e1500 has some interesting new technology going on with it. @phrunt seems to have confidence in the target I.D. I think it's a start to seeing some improvement on the PI machines anyways.

Maybe. But is it up there in the same league with the GPX 6000 in finding gold? If finding gold is the game.
