Apparently there is a new XP part available, a cable to go direct from the waterproof fitting on the controller, to a standard 1/8" jack. For wired phones, and even other wireless phone options, with appropriate transmitter box. But this cable is a secret, only listed on metaldetector.com so far as I can find. Only $12.90, but they want $22 shipping!!!! Sucker that I am I have one on order, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth for something that would fit in a first class padded envelope. So I am turning you all loose to find a better source, and not get bent over like I did!

Looks an awful lot like the Tarsacci adapter. Might be something one could find generic, assuming that IP68 five pin adapter is standard stuff, which I’m sure it is. Long story short I prefer this to the puck adapter, so I can use the full controller, and with phones I prefer over the on ear phones XP provides. I'm an over the ear guy, and don't want to spring for the XP proprietary version.

This is what I posted in another thread.

"I bought the Deus compatible Grey Ghost over the ear phones and the audio is superb. They even have a version with more upgraded speakers.  I tried Grey Ghost phone a long time ago and the sound wasn't good. They really upped their game with sound quality."

    I'm LOVING these!

Yes, it’s the cam locks. There are of course fixes. Best one would be that for $1500 XP pay more attention to details like this.  Yeah, I know, Minelab and others have done it also. But others being poor is no excuse to be poor.

I'm lucky mine are tight and I have no wobble. It's definitely a plastic injection molding issue if there are variations. They may have a bad mold with cavities that vary in dimensions or the  mold varies in temperature from cavity to cavity. I'm thinking the mold may be wearing out as it is the same exact part as the DEUS 1. I'm a mechanical engineer and deal with this stuff a lot.

Oops, been too busy I guess, missed that here! I never was a fan of the included XP phones as I hate on ear phones, but I expected it, so no surprise. I'll be using an adapter to use the phones I want instead. But something has changed in the rod from what I remember, so that was a surprise.

I bought the Deus compatible Grey Ghost over the ear phones and the audio is superb. They even have a version with more upgraded speakers.  I tried Grey Ghost phone a long time ago and the sound wasn't good. They reall upped their game with sound quality.

I had a chance to observe a D2 with 11” coil recently, and overall was impressed by what I saw. Seemed just ok on mid to low conductors, but excellent to superior on high conductors. Decided to get back on the order list based on what I saw, thinking it may do better than I thought on silver in my parks. That in mind I switched from 9” to 11” coil, as I’ve decided other units will do better on gold, especially nugget detecting, and that was main reason I wanted the 9” coil, as alternative to 6x11 nugget coil. But for deep silver, I’m thinking the 11” has the edge.

What I did not like was lower rod movement that seemed far in excess from what I remember on my two previous Deus 1 units. Less the rod itself, then slop in the cam lock mechanism. Not sure, but my previous impressions were the XP S shaft was the best of the best. This one… barely ok out of water, and I’d think a disaster swinging in water against resistance.

Anyone else seeing this, or is it a problem isolated to my buddies detector?

    Steve

The Cam Locks may be the culprit. There was a couple videos showing how to adjust and tighten them up using shims.

My unit takes a little force to close the levers and I have zero wobble.

Got mine a couple of days ago and my disappointment is immeasurable 😄

I had my first proper hunt yesterday and was extremely impressed. I had hunted that permission three times already with next to no success. Yesterday I found 20 coins (all modern, sadly) and a whole bunch of other stuff that my Vanquish 540 failed to pick up. The Deus is so fast, and the response so detailed, I felt like I was x-raying the ground. I did dig a bunch of nails until I figured out the horseshoe display. After that, the only nails I found were masking coins.

To be fair, I've never used an Equinox 800, so I can't compare, but I feel my needs are thoroughly met.

Oh, POOR YOU!! I am disappointed for your bad hunting experience! 🤣 I only hope it gets much worse. Like finding gold coins and such...😂

Hi Slyword, we noticed that the Theshold function on Déus II was more of a gadget than a real Threshold function because even when passing an object near the coil, this function was still emitting a continuous sound.
For all the detectorists who on the beach, on the goldfiels and on the relics we have this feeling of a useless function and unsuited to our detection mode.
As you made returns towards XP, was it evoked a modification of the function Threshold so that it is more effective? on this thread you will find the infos.
    https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/forum/61-xp-deus-ii-forum/

I have liked using Threshold on my other detectors. The D2 threshold doesn't give the results in the "Break" my other machines gave me. I am however, finding I don't really need it on the D2. Just my opinion FWIW.

Oh yes, I'm all for learning by doing! It just goes so much better when there is some guidance or reference material that explains why I'm doing something. Otherwise you only learn what you have discovered, and nothing else. That may not be the best, or intended, way to do things, and it's a great way to miss out on features. I'd like to understand what I'm doing, so that I can get the most out of the machine.

    DO NOT CUT YOURSELF SHORT!!!

You have been a detectorist for apparently quite a while. The D2 manual is fantastic in explaining the different modes and Max frequencies used. Just save the General Max 40KHZ, the Park Max 24KHZ and the deep HC max 14 KHZ and tweek them to your liking where you hunt. I find the machine very intuitive once you learn the menu and the features. Just get out on your favorite ground and play with every signal you find in the different modes. Chase Goldman is a great resource when you may get stuck! Don't let the machines complexity get the best of you. Should be the other way around in short time.

Your case may be different, but the same thing happened to me yesterday because I chose Option > Audio > Audio Type. That screen offers only PWM and Square tones.

Later I figured out that instead I needed to do Menu > Discri > Expert Button > Tones and then use + to scroll to Full Tones.

When I went to Menu > Discri > Expert Button > Tones everything was good. I like Pitch mode over Full tones.  It was when I went to Option > Audio > Audio Type, All I could select was Square tones. PWM was not there at all to select from. Right now everything is good and working fine.

  9. Thank You!

I saved 3 programs in Custom slots based on Max frequency.

    General max 40KHZ

    Deep HC max 14K

    Park max 24KHZ

I think with these programs I will learn the machine better. These programs are the extremes of the FMS programs. Learning each in turn will be the key in mastering this detector. Peace!

  10. I am a Deus II owner now as well as own the Nokta Impact from day 1. I own my ATMax and will never let it go. I have the stock coil and the small coil. I think ATPro has a nicer audio sound than the Max. The Max is deeper for sure but they chose to use the audio sounds from the ATGold instead of the Pro. I am used to it though and LOVE the machine!!! It's NOT a $1600 machine like my Deus II but really does a better job than many others. It will sniff stuff from our heavy Iron here in CT. I am actually putting it ahead of my Impact right now! Hunting with my buddy today, he is a Legend with his Pro!! He has the best coin examples in New England. All of the 1800' dimes in museum condition. One of the finest Large cents ever found here and a Connecticut copper that looks like it was made yesterday. He is a Wizard with his Pro!!!Every hunt we do he plays it like a Stradivarius Violin. I like my Max as much as my Deus II. They both have their place.

    Peace HH 👍👋

I got my 9" XP II yesterday and after charging it up I started to play with it. After about 5 minutes I could see where this thing was going. It's incredibly easy to use and set up for whatever task in terms of detecting I could ask of it. Here's what helped me and got me ready to use it:

    1. Gary- Seriously about the best detector teacher on the Interwebs. I could listen to him teach about shoe tying and come away satisfied. If I die before him I'm going to ask my wife to contact him to do my eulogy. Pay him whatever he wants as no one tells a better story.

    2. Calabash- his videos are short and to the point. Who cares if he says how great the XP is? If you get all riled up over metal detector videos you ought to consider other hobbies. I learned a great deal about getting started by watching. I'd love to hunt with him someday because it would be FUN!

    3. Mental Metal Guy- Another great use of youtube. You'll want to skip the first 1-2 minutes of the videos because it's basically dramatic music and a Fort Bedford ad but the rest of the videos are great. He will teach you all the basics in a different way than CB but between the two you will know how to operate the D2. I think he called me a clown in a forum post awhile back but I don't hold grudges so if he could help me find a gold ring I'll be a clown all day.

    4. Griffinds guy- more good how-to stuff on the D2. I'm a school teacher and the kid at the end (I'm assuming his son) is a bit like the smart a$$ know it all who always tells the teacher they are wrong but the info is top notch and will help you if you'll listen.

    5. Chase- Read what he says. If he says something he is likely right. I flew clear across the country 5 years ago and did an XP bootcamp with he and Andy in Gettysburg. He was right then about detecting and he is right now. Don't question him just listen.

I hit the beach this morning for my first time out. Started in Beach. I did a frequency scan. Hit the wet sand and it was chatty. I remembered something about what Chase said about Beach P (remember, do what Chase says) and I switched to Beach P. OMG, it became so quiet and I began to hunt. The tone was in pitch and while it was different than my 800 I just decided to go with it. It was fine. After about 4-5 targets you could easily tell what something was. Iron sounds crappy, you can easily tell. I dug everything and Modelo is now #1 in terms of what drunk people drink at the beach in 2022.

The bottom line was this D2 is a breeze to swing and if you'll take the time to learn it BEFORE you get into the field or beach you will have zero problems. If you make a mistake TURN IT OFF and then turn it back on. I dug a silver medallion that was at least 16 inches deep in the wet sand. Could my Nox 800 have found it? Who cares?

Performance wise this thing is sweet. Again I dug everything this morning, and after an hour I could tell what everything was going to be based on the tone and the ID. Every signal that said "I'M IRON" was iron. Every bottle cap was a bottle cap and every penny was a penny. The hardest thing for me today was putting the RC on the stem and yes I had removed the cover(like I said, Idiot proof) but I finally got it on. I'm going to figure out a way to tether it on to the shaft because I had to traverse about 20 feet of boulders to get to me spot and all I could think about was what if I slipped and knocked it off into the abyss. I solved the problem by taking it off and putting it into my pocket.

Now there are some folks who will complain that for $1600 XP should have included a cup holder, a place to rest your cigarette and beer but if you paid $1600 you likely missed out a better deal elsewhere but in the end it's only money and XP has produced a winner. For a person with a junk elbow it's the bomb. I'll admit I'm going to become a fanboy and buy the 280 backpack because I'm tired of getting yelled at that my detectors take up too much space in the car. I hung my 800 up on the wall and I don't plan on using it for the forseeable future as I want to put the hours on the D2. I'm going to hit a park tomorrow so I'll do some dirt fishing with it and see how it goes but I suspect that it will kick some serious booty.

Hope this eases some minds about what detector to save up for if you're on the fence.

    XP DEUS2 11" ASSESSMENT ( after 10 hours field testing  /inland hunting ) :
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ( Updated on March 16th 2022 )

The Deus2 offers me exactly what I was expecting , the historical Deus1 speed-reactivity in the iron trash and its lightness , plus the Equinox depth and softer audio.  What else ? 🙂

    MY GRADING :  4,7 of 5  ( 19/20 )

    THE PLUS :

    - very good in the irons despite the large coil size
    - excellent detection depth

    - very polyvalent / all terrain thx to the FMF multifrequency
    - very light machine ( from 880g )
    - new performing and nice SQUARE audio
    - many modes and expert settings available
    - excellent RC and WS6 ergonomy
    - easy to use
    - RC IP68 protected to 20m for diving
    - very convenient telescopic shaft
    - many accessories available : 9" coil , WSA2 - WSA2 XL -  BH01 headphones , MI6  , etc
    - frequent software updates available at xpmetaldetectors.com
    - etc

    THE CONS :

    - detector slightly front heavy with the 11" coil
    - expensive ( 1600e / $ )

SUMMARY OF MY DEUS2  SETTINGS :
    ---------------------------------------

    -   General detection moderately to medium iron trash - beginners :
            P1 GENERAL or P5 PARK

    -   Iron trashed areas :
           P2  SENSITIVE ;  SQUARE  , 5 tones

    -   Hunting deep coins in clean soil :
           P6   DEEP HC ;     SQUARE  , 5 tones

Thank you for your review and posts! I live in Iron Infested New England. I am running 3 custom programs that run at different maximum frequencies. I am running a modified General program that runs Max 40KHZ, a modified Park program that runs at Max 24KHZ and a modified Deep HC that runs a Max 14KHZ. This lets me experiment with each FMF mode on the fly. I am running PWM audio in Pitch mode. I like the subtle nuanced tones it gives. I have LOT of high iron here where I live that sounds like a good conductor. The fuzzy edges of the signal tell me it's junk. Thank you for your efforts and I hope you make MANY more posts Sir!!

    Peace and HH

Sorry for the confusion, but it is the Mi6(pin-pointer). And, yes I can get to the program to pair the Mi6 (pin-pointer) and it tells me to hold for 8 seconds and it is like it never responds to the Mi6. Thanks.....

Are you pushing the power button on the remote or the pin-pointer?
